Ubisoft: I call it C.O.D. but on water.
You’ve heard of “one step forward, two steps back” as a phrase.
Now, with this game, it’s “one step back, then two more steps back.”
Seriously. I feel like I personally might still find some enjoyment in it, but how hard was it just to use the success of AC Black Flag?! Same ship combat, maybe different ground combat if there will be any, and you have a AAA game immediately!
Imagine having the perfect blueprints for a great pirate game and this is the best you can cone up with.
Well, they got the blueprints in game...
What the hell. Why are the ships so colourful? Ships back then had simple or some more detailed stuff to represent their empire while most pirates would just sail under black banner. I also know they indeed used to paint the ship's hull, but in this game is way exaggerated, the colours are way too strong and bright than it should be.
i agree they all look like toy boats 😂 but also its a multiplayer game so they gotta sell cosmetics to players somehow
I also prefer games that can actually nail the "period" there trying to represent. AC black flag was a game but at least it was reasonably immersive.

In their defence it's not really like a machine gun, but more like an upgraded Chinese fireworks shooter with a mechanics similar to the katyuska rocket launcher. The mussel fire moves from side to side as if different projectiles leave adiacent barrels. however not really up and down, so it's like having 5 barrels next to each other which instantly reload 20 times over😂😂😂😂
All in all it's far from what players expected and a total disappointment compared to a typical pirate age cannon shot volley side sweeping the enemy ship and ripping shrapnel and other bits out of it as portrayed in the cinematic
Rockets did exist as far back as the 700s... but, they were not used like this in ship to ship combat. You'd maybe launch one or two "rockets" at an attacking ship every few minutes. And they likely wouldn't be that accurate.
Hwatchas were proven to be temperamental things by the mythbusters, and historically it's very likely that with all of the damp air when sailing that hawatchas would have been more of a hindrance than a help. Not to mention if one was hit by a cannonball or firebomb, the resulting explosion or misfires could very quickly render a ship's top deck completely inoperable.
Historically they were not used for ship combat and those are probably the most practical reasons why. Plus, cannons are still brutally effective against wooden, and even metal ships.
Buying Skull and Bones expecting AC Blackflag would be like buying football manager and expecting fifa
I wish this game didn't get so much hate I really want this game to succeed but the devs give us disappointment after disappointment
After being invited to play early. It's not a good game

I played the close beta I found it pretty entertaining, but I must say that in the beta, you couldn't reach a high rank, you could only get from strange weapons torpedoes, and Greek Fire. Sea monsters and ghost ships fit in with pirate mythology. M102 Howitzers aren't.
@@tubularmonkeymaniac Sorry mate but that's a shit analogy considering howitzers don't fire like that, although I see what you're attempting to get at. Funny thing is though, it's a real historical weapon that had seen use on ships in Asia, it's called a hwacha.

People need to understand that pre rendered trailers mean absolutely nothing, they're mainly there to get the idea of the game across to people or get people excited. When the game makes progress in development alot of stuff happens and features can outright change. Once the gane comes out, look at gameplay online before you decide to buy.
Yes. It's gotten to the point where it's like, why even bother with a prerendered trailer if it's got nothing to do visually or mechanically with the game. Especially since the tech exists now. It flat out feels like being lied to now.
@@geoffreybrowne5191 well typically pre rendered trailers are for teaser trailers just to get the basic idea of the game across. But some developers decide to substitute that for the actual trailer rather than a teaser
@@davisthegamelord I know that. What I'm saying is they should just put together trailers with actual gameplay footage. So often times prerendered footage is misleading in my opinion.

I am a history Major and i approve on Rocket launchers, Automatic Machine guns, Torpedos and more. Its historical accurate. The most important take-away: The heavy, machine-cannon fire is completely ineffective. Fun.
It’s so funny a lot of ppl don’t get that Ubisofts first announced and gameplay was just Black flag but better.
Ppl are really defending this crap is just sad.
Make sense while writing? Its a good game and clearly every development studio changes their ideas. They launched it knowing it was a stand-out from Black Flag and it wasn't supposed to be like it. It has support for at least 5 more years and they are already fixing player issues so your hating ass can shut the fuck up.
Not only are there machine-cannons, but those "Sailing ships" are definitely equipped with massive inboard engines.
There’s no way the cannons fire like that. 😅😂 This must’ve been sped up some how. I’m gonna go by a long shot here & say that that weapon is the Korean Hwacha rocket launcher from the 1600s but even it could only fire maybe 50 rockets & definitely not that fast 😂
The rapid fire weapon wasn't a cannon, it was a rack of rockets
A Chinese "automatic" arrow/rocket launcher actually
But even in real life these things were inaccurate on land, now imagine it being used on a ship + the risk of one cannonball hitting it and half the deck of your ship is gona burn or straight up explode

In Ubisoft’s defense they did tell us to “forget everything you know about pirate games”…it’s like they expected everyone to be disappointed and was setting up for it. All they truly had to do is copy/paste AC4, add a character creator, different ship classes, new mechanics and stuff to do, and it would’ve been a hit. It’s like the dumb kid copying the smart kids homework, but deciding to change everything because he didn’t like the smart kids answers
"What age is this?"
"Viking age."
"Oh... well, that explains the laser raptors." 😂😂😂
So the thing is the rocket launcher is based in reality. The H’Wacha was invented in 1409, and did something (relatively) similar. I suppose it’s not too far of a stretch to say they swapped the ammo for firework rockets, though it doesn’t feel great in the context of the game
That’s a cinematic trailer. And people with brain cells doesn’t take cinematic game trailers as expectation
They had Black Flag RIGHT THERE. All they had to do was tweak it to be more customizable and multiplayer friendly.
Ubisoft never fails to dissapoint in spectacular fashion.
