Love hearing the price of a project spesaly as I’m in the uk too and struggle to figure out wool I like that not from abroad and super expensive/ have high shipping prices. Just finished my first knitted garment using ur pattern. Going to attempt socks next once Iv done my crochet advent. Xxx
Love the mittens. Skeindeer knits have wonderful mittens patterns. They are enjoyable and I have gifted lots of them . I'm a English style knitter myself I do mainly colour work and I find the more I do it, the managing of floats get better and speed. I love your cardigan you designed.
I just finished the Lyon sweater and I wasn't sure if I loved it during the knitting process but since I've finished it, I love it! The fit is great and the construction was fun!

I’ve knitted socks for my boyfriend, father and grandfather. I always use 2,5 mm needles and use The Crazy Sock Lady vanilla on 9 inch pattern. For my boyfriend I do 15 rows for the cuff and 30 for the legs. For my dad I do 20 rows for the cuff and 40-45 for the leg and for my grandfather I do 20 rows for the cuff and 60 for the leg. They are all happy with their sock lenght. Hope it helps.

When I knit socks for my boyfriend or my brothers, I usually do about 70 rounds for the leg (including the cuff) on 2,25mm needles. What I've learned is to knit the heel flap a little bit longer than I would for myself, which leads to me having to pick up more sts at the sides but it creates more room in the gusset, which I found to be necessary so the socks fit them well. I knit socks for my dad last christmas, (also the only stockinette socks I've made!) and they seemed totally huge to me lol! I forget the measurements I used, but there's some useful charts that are easy to find online that show shoe size to measurement conversions. So if you know his shoe size, you can just knit to the standard foot circumference and length for the socks. Love the podcast as always!
lovely podcast as per usual! as for British yarn, i'd really recommend John Arbon. I'm knitting some selbu mittens in their knit by numbers base and it's stunning. There's a lot of colour variation within the yarn and it makes for a really special project!

I am so excited for the step by step cardigan because the first thing I ever knit was your set by step sweater so I'm very interested to see how much I've improved!! also I've done kinda the opposite in terms of socks, I've never knit a pair for myself, I've only knit them for the men in my life. I use 2.25mm DPNs and do 20 rows 3x1 rib for the cuff and then 60 rows for the leg for an average height man. However my husband is quite tall 6'1 ~ 180cm so I do an extra 10 rows (70 total) for the leg. For my brother who is quite slender I do a 64 stitch cast on and for my husband I do 72. I hope this helps ❤
I'm knitting man socks for the first time this christmas. All the proportions look wrong to me since I have no context for how much bigger any part of them should be. I'm hoping the wide ribbing helps give me some wiggle room with fit.
There must be plenty of beautiful British yarns since the UK has such a long history in producing wool. I love John Arbon yarns but didn't dare to buy them yet since they are quite pricey (at least here in Finland). Would be nice to see you try more local yarns! :)
The cardigan with the Noro yarn is…. Uh I love it! That doesn’t mean that I don’t like the cardigan you are wearing…, no not at all! But the Noro yarn has such a extraordinary color… I have no idea if I can get it in Germany and I even don’t know if it is better to find it or not…just because of the price…😣. I think if I really find it I have no chance not buying it. Regarding the prices on your projects…, well it’s probably too important for someone from another country, but I can imagine that many people would like to know it. Btw the mic sounds great! The zipper sweater has waited so long to come on my needles… as I am fearing to bring in the zipper😢… but someday….. Great video as always Florence. Sock wise, for my partner who has 9-10 size feet I do the following for a vanilla sock… 2.5mm, 64 cast on, 14 rows of rib, 60 rows before heel, 65 rows for foot before toe reduction. Hope that helps!
I think talking about cost is so important! The first time I knit a garment I usually use drops and if I love the final design I'll do it again in something more luxurious like KFO or Isager because I know it'll be worth it! Also I'll have a better idea for how much I'll actually need 😂
Your new microphone really sounds great. It‘s so much easier to understand you. I knit a lot of men‘s socks and I cast on more stitches as usual, most times 72. The leg I knit about 17 cm in length. In my experience it isn‘t a big problem to knit heels and toes with selfstriping yarn, especially if it has such a long colour repeat as yours.
Thanks for your podcasts. I enjoy them very much. I have had some skeins of Madara Sake for more than a year now and will stop just starring at them in my wool basket. I can admire this lovely yarn by knitting it now - especially with your step by step video coming. Your cardigan looks so fluffy and has a nice drape. Just beautiful. The costs for a certain project might be interesting sometimes but I wouldn't expect you to include this information in your videos. Since we live in different parts of the world availability and prices might differ anyway.
The SBD Cardi looks beautiful! I’m very excited to make it one day. Question, I know you use KFO Merino and Mohair a lot. Have you ever experienced bleeding/staining with any of the colors? I used Wild Berries Merino in the summer and it was great. But I’m using Deep Petroleum Blue in Merino and Mohair now and my fingers, nails, and project bag all have staining. Not sure if I got a bad batch or if it’s normal for the darker colors.
I'm also knitting the zipper man light sweater and it is taking FOREVER. Almost off sleeve island, but it has definitely become a chore, ugh. Also, I have knit my boyfriend/dad socks many times. I use 2.25 or 2.5mm needles depending on the yarn, and cast on between 60-64 stitches (depends on pattern). Honestly, I don't count how many rows, but I will usually do 1-2" of ribbing, and then 4-5" of the cuff before working the heel. I actually found a guide of different mens sock heights on google yesterday, so all I remember is that a mid-calf sock is 8" high, but there are so many options!
I make a lot of socks for the guys in my family- my general rule of thumb is that the leg has to be equal to the foot or at least sixty rows before the cuff and I use a 2.25mm
I've used the noro madara yarn and didn't have any issues with doing an Italian bind off, but I do see how it could have been an issue because of the yarns thick/thin quality. It's a beautiful yarn, but I do experience a moderate amount of piling. It's a perfect cardigan yarn. The new mic is great and sound is very clear!
The mittens you are making are a traditional Selbu mitten, which are known for a Selbu rose pattern. These are named after the girl who invented Selbu knitting, Marit. This knitting was invented in the 1800s. Selbu is a small town/village in norway

Yarn in America is always double yarn across the pond 🫡 whenever people say noro is so expensive I never understand bc it’s about the same price as all other yarns I have and can access in my area that are wool/alpaca Loved all your knits!! I have knit quite a lot of socks for men with large feet, and I have learned to at the very least do 15 round of ribbing and then 45 rounds of stockinette for the leg (that's for Regia 4ply sock yarn with 2,5mm needles). Hope this helps!
Heya. Wearing fable dark green atm. They are fairly new and they pilled from day 3. I will add mohair to the next of fable socks. Perhaps you got a scrap grey you would like to add to yours for your fathers socks. Just a thought. Sound is great. Happy knitting.

Also regarding your carry "white spots" on your mittens, I find that this can be resolved by wrapping/carrying your yarn at different locations than the previous row...hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the great podcast. I knit socks for my husband. He likes 15 rows for the cuff and 60 for the leg before the heel flap. I knit 64 stitches on 2.25mm double pointed needles. I measured a pair just now and the leg is 7.25 inches. This is after about a year of wear. I hope this helps.
I knit socks for my husband and for my son often. My son wears size 11 (Canadian so not how that translates to UK size). I use 2.5mm needles and I do 72 rounds on the foot, 64 rounds for the leg and 6 rounds for the cuff. I do toe up and I cast on 36 stitches and increase to 68 stitches in the toe before I start the foot (I usually do that in alternating rows, increase one row knit the next. I hope this helps.

Question - did you knit the Marit mittens on dpns or in the round? I want to make them as my first colourwork project and don't know if I really have to use dpns (I usually use cable needles, even for socks)
Andrea Mowry recommends 8” for the average men’s size medium sock for the leg! I’m knitting a pair for my dad for Christmas I’ll report back if that works for him lol
I just knitted a pair of men socks with 20 rows of ribbing and a bit over 50 rows of stockinette before the heel flap, on 2.25, and it came out perfect. But I knitted it for a friend with fairly thin ankles so there wasn't much stretching around the leg and I knit very loosely, so I would recommend something longer

i’ve never noticed anything like that at all! although I definitely mostly use very pale colours

Honestly, I don't count how many rows, but I will usually do 1-2" of ribbing, and then 4-5" of the cuff before working the heel. I actually found a guide of different mens sock heights on google yesterday, so all I remember is that a mid-calf sock is 8" high, but there are so many options!
I make a lot of socks for the guys in my family- my general rule of thumb is that the leg has to be equal to the foot or at least sixty rows before the cuff and I use a 2.25mm

I've used the noro madara yarn and didn't have any issues with doing an Italian bind off, but I do see how it could have been an issue because of the yarns thick/thin quality. It's a beautiful yarn, but I do experience a moderate amount of piling. It's a perfect cardigan yarn. The new mic is great and sound is very clear!
The mittens you are making are a traditional Selbu mitten, which are known for a Selbu rose pattern. These are named after the girl who invented Selbu knitting, Marit. This knitting was invented in the 1800s. Selbu is a small town/village in norway

Yarn in America is always double yarn across the pond 🫡 whenever people say noro is so expensive I never understand bc it’s about the same price as all other yarns I have and can access in my area that are wool/alpaca

I have knit quite a lot of socks for men with large feet, and I have learned to at the very least do 15 round of ribbing and then 45 rounds of stockinette for the leg (that's for Regia 4ply sock yarn with 2,5mm needles). Hope this helps!

Firstly, I so enjoy your podcast and attention to details. Have you tried John Arbon yarns? I recently made a ranunculus and I love it. Also regarding your carry "white spots" on your mittens, I find that this can be resolved by wrapping/carrying your yarn at different locations than the previous row...hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the great podcast. I knit socks for my husband. He likes 15 rows for the cuff and 60 for the leg before the heel flap. I knit 64 stitches on 2.25mm double pointed needles. I measured a pair just now and the leg is 7.25 inches. This is after about a year of wear. I hope this helps.
I knit socks for my husband and for my son often. My son wears size 11 (Canadian so not how that translates to UK size). I use 2.5mm needles and I do 72 rounds on the foot, 64 rounds for the leg and 6 rounds for the cuff. I do toe up and I cast on 36 stitches and increase to 68 stitches in the toe before I start the foot (I usually do that in alternating rows, increase one row knit the next. I hope this helps.
Hey loved the vid, I was wondering, where you said the cardiff cashmere is closer to a sport weight, what did you find for the lang one? Is that closer to a true DK? Do you know any 100% cashmere that is a true DK? It's quite hard to find isn't it!

I don't really specify the rows, but I use 2.75mm needles and base it off of one of their current socks. Usually it ends up pretty nice

Question - did you knit the Marit mittens on dpns or in the round? I want to make them as my first colourwork project and don't know if I really have to use dpns (I usually use cable needles, even for socks)

I just knitted a pair of men socks with 20 rows of ribbing and a bit over 50 rows of stockinette before the heel flap, on 2.25, and it came out perfect. But I knitted it for a friend with fairly thin ankles so there wasn't much stretching around the leg and I knit very loosely, so I would recommend something longer
