    This is a fairly new invention . In the 1950s as a kid I was fascinated with my aunts ringer washer, you know with the two wooden pins turning together so when I stuck my finger in it that thing grabbed me and started pulling me through ! I screamed like a stuffed pig and I’m sure I wasn’t the first 5 year old to be fascinated with those two deadly rollers. Thank God for invention and the modern washing machine. Of coarse I was so terrified with my first interaction with a washing machine that I never tried something stupid like climb into the tub and close the lid washers are dangerous lol

    There's a minor editing do-funny where you get a step out of order, and you leave out reinstalling the spanner nut, but those are minor. You have made a superbly useful video. I maintain things for our local animal shelter, and we don't begin to have enough money to pay for everything that needs to be done. I am grateful to you.

    I have a few useful tips after doing this job: 1. a pipe wrench will do the same job as the spanner.
    2.the hub will give you a good
    fight & the shaft will kinda turn with it..I needed a second pipe wrench on the shaft to stop this.be careful about the splines!,use tape.
    3.a few drops of WD40will help here, but the hub seal is in the way.I poked a hole to insert the WD40 straw to get to the hub thread
    4.vise grips work well with the suspension springs and spring clamps..
    5.mark the legs and tub cover support.
    6.Now is a good time to scrub off scum & hard water deposits on both tubs to remove the funny smell.

      You can find the spanner and seal nut wrench on ebay (sold by Detroit Tools). Stuff coins into the spring while stretched to remove or install the springs. I've never fixed a washing machine before but just did this repair myself today with no problems.

      @@ridgekuhn Thanks for the hack. I'd rather buy a spring spreader (assuming I could find one) than stuff quarters into six heavy duty springs. Funny that the guy on the video didn't resort to quarters. Would have undermined the statement that this was an easy job.

      @ridgekuhn 4 года назад

      Motorhomeschooling Yeah. The closest I was able to find to the OEM tool were 3D-printed reproductions, and you couldn’t pay me enough to stretch a spring with that much tension using a little plastic thing! tbh, I thought while I was doing it that stuffing the springs full of coins might actually be safer than using the tool, since there’s no risk of the spring slipping off and snapping back in your face!

    Great video - thanks!! I have an older Magic Chef that has a longer drive shaft and I can't get the spindle (that holds the agitator) back on as it seems to be about 1/2" off. There's a spring inside the spindle and it does compress. Just not enough drive shaft sticking up. I've removed the spring, attached the spindle & agitator, started the washer on low water setting. It agitates, spins, drains, acts normal. Grrrr! I replaced the spin bearing about 9 years ago and am doing it again. Still like this washer!

      We have had our Maytag Performa PAV2300 trouble free for 16 years until now being the Motor started emitting a odor that smelled like burnt candles. It finally seized up so I replaced the motor with a new one checking the pump pully and Trans pully. They both spun freely in a clockwise direction. Counter clockwise the pump pully spun freely but the Trans pully there is resistance but I can turn it by hand. With the belt not connected I ran the replacement New motor to see if it ran ok with the belt now disconnected. It ran nicely but started to emit the same odor and started smoking. I am at my wits end now. I spoke to someone online from a Appliance Parts online and he told me to replace the trust bearing and it will cure my problem but to be honest I am a little suspect that it will not. Been doing a lot of research. I should mention that the new motor replacement made the washing machine run like new. We must of done 10 wash loads over a week but the last one that smell I spoke about started and when it happened within seconds the machine shut down. The new motor still turns freely. It did not seize. At this point I ordered another new motor and the trust bearing kit. If it doesn’t fix the problem I am giving up and purchasing a brand new machine. Asked some questions here on You Tube but haven’t been answered back as of yet and I have to make a move being without a working washing machine in the house now 4 days.

    Is it ever just as simple as that seal on top .. mine has the water coming down from somewhere in the middle.. just seems like water shouldn't even be getting to where that assembly is in the first place

    Wait a minute... At 11:09 you were removing the hub support cover bolts and at 11:15 you are putting them back in... What happened in between?? Bearing seal assy??

    • @tammyward5025
      @tammyward5025 7 месяцев назад

      I noticed that too. I was so confused. Around 13:30 he was removing the bolts on the support cover again and the springs were off. These springs are so hard to get off and he takes them off and puts them on a couple times. I think during the editing of this video that things were put in the wrong order.

    Where can I purchase the three pin wrench?

      @tammyward5025 7 месяцев назад

      I bought a Spanner Wrench (the three pin wrench in the video) in December 2023 from an EBay auction. The company that sold it is McCombs Supply Company located in Pennsylvania. The Spanner wrench cost me $67.00.

      McCombs Supply in Pennsylvania said they sell this Spanner wrench all day long whereas I live near Chicago, Illinois and this Spanner wrench has been discontinued for years.

      I found the Spanner wrench used in this video from McCombs Supply Company in Pennsylvania in December 2023. It works great but it did cost around $67.00. I live near Chicago, Illinois and could not find this Spanner wrench anywhere in Indiana or Illinois. I love my Maytag Atlantis washer and I insisted on fixing it. But it is not an easy job and they have been many obstacles…. Discontinued parts and tools (Spanner wrench and spring removal tool) without these tools, I don’t know how you would take the tub nut or the tub springs off. This has been a very time consuming repair. I have already replaced the motor (in 2020) along with the water pump in November 2023 so hopefully I’ll be good for awhile.

    I have a maytag MTW5800TWO . The top is screwed down from the inside and doesn't have clips. This video is useless for my maytag. It would be better for you to title which models this works for, rather than make it sound like these are the steps for maytag washing machines, in general.

      Good luck trying to find those handy tools he has. I've looked everywhere and can't find the spanner wrench or the spring spreader, which is indispensable. I removed the springs with cam buckles & hooks, but I should have thought this through. Not sure how that will work to reinstall the springs when I can't see what I'm doing.

    its refreshing not to see stupid suspension rods so common on new washers and they sag and become prone to fail.I dont understand why manufacturers went with that direction when older machine worked just fine without and lasted years more 10-15yrs more

    A real easy job? Specialty tools required. Bad editing. This is a major repair, time consuming especially if it's your first time. Need to be more honest in what's required in time and tools to repair, just want to sell you parts.
