I checked my bank account this morning and no money had been withdrawn for the escrow demands of Goff's contract. Some people act like they are personally paying for Goff's contract. Before anyone says it, ticket prices were raised prior to this contract being signed.
Let me start by saying I like the Goff signing I’m glad we signed him. But that’s a dumb take. Nobody thinks they have to contribute their own money to Goffs contract. It’s about the fact that there is a salary cap and the more you give to 1 player the less you have to give to the rest of the team. Like I said I like the signing and I like Goff so I’m not one of those people, but they’re concerned about the cap not their own wallets.
@@dexdorrey9834 You missed the point. Obviously, nobody is paying for Goff except the Ford's. Rather, people act like it is a hit to their personal life/financial situation. Hopefully, you understand now what I was saying.
@@Charlie-s4k4v I understand what you’re saying, but it’s not the money people are concerned with, it’s the cap hit. If there was no cap nobody would have a problem giving Goff 100 million a year. And I apologize if I offended you, that wasn’t my intention. Maybe I shouldn’t have called it a dumb take, I didn’t really think anything of it.
I don’t mind the Hooker pick even if he never plays a down. Holmes clearly liked him if he drafted him and insurance is a nice thing to have. I hope I never have to use my health insurance or car insurance but I still pay my premiums every month. If he proves to be a quality backup in the QB room or Goff gets hurt, that’s worth a 3rd round pick, especially since we had extra picks in last years draft.
Exactly my feelings as well. QB is far and away the most important position in football and have a first round caliber QB with time to learn the system and get better all on a rookie 3rd round contract sounds pretty awesome to me especially since it may save a season one day. One thing teams learned over the last couple years especially last year is having a good back in waiting can be vital.
To Mike’s point: the city cares 10000x more about the Lions than our other teams. The Tigers and Pistons get full attention when they’re good. But when they aren’t, it’s “I’m just waiting for football” Rico is right. I think it was a consensus opinion that Goff was a throw in for the picks. I couldn’t be happier I was wrong.
Goff may appear boring, but that stacks the odds that he plays all 17 games with no injuries. Goff appears smart to read defenses. Also, has two playoff wins and has beat Mahomes twice (college and last year).
One thing that really stands out is how good he is with the game on the line with 2 minutes left. He plays smart and makes good decisions when a lot of QB’s would panic or force a play and end the drive, that’s a extremely difficult thing to do that even some of the greats couldn’t. I know he’s not mobile but he’s not slow 4.8 speed is not slow, it may not be Vick but it’s also not Brady and because he stays in the pocket he doesn’t take unnecessary punishment. A lot of people don’t understand why their favorite QB is always hurt or is out of the league before 28.
Really like Rico's band aid analogy here. Jarred Goff is more of a solid QB than a flashy one. While he can't put a team on his shoulders, he excels when a given a good team around him. He also seems to like the city of Detroit.
I mean all I heard was Jarrod Goff chants the entire season and draft. Pretty sure fans are ok with Goff. The players making big money for the lions are damn good players who have the right attitude to

David is right! The organization never looked at Goff as a bridge. That was fans and the media. Goff overcame adversity and brought the Lions to places they have never been. I’m excited!
Goff deserved to get paid. He's our guy. We can't afford to switch everything up right now, he is good, he's earned it, and it is also a good culture move.

IMO, one thing to keep in mind is that diagnosing what to actually do about the Tigers and (especially) the Pistons is so difficult that it's going to reduce the number of hot takes.

It's like I always said If the super bowl was in Detroit one year and the Lions won it that year. There would be people in Detroit that would say "Yea, the Lions only won because they got lucky and played at home"
I thought from the beginning we got the better quarterback at that point in each of their careers. I've always thought we fleeced the Rams. Goff earned his bag.
Can someone please set Jarred down and explain to him that a back shoulder throw is necessary for Jamo. For crying out loud he’s drafted for his speed and Jarred’s accuracy is negating it. Get the ball out front of him in stride, “he’s gone”.

It is high. Goff is the second highest paid qb in the league. But he’s not the second best qb in the league. And that’s ok. Nothing wrong with that. It’s the way the market is. I think he was reluctant yesterday because it is such a high annual value. But, to his point, what else could the lions do? They had to pay Goff. But it’s alright to admit that 53 a year is on the high side.
You can like Goff and think the contract is dumb. I don’t see how hard that is to get. Some of you are perfectly happy saying “who cares what happened before?”. Educated people see it. They see the Rams literally got where the Lions were, paid Goff a ransom and then realized he was not the guy to carry them at that cost. Good on you if you think it will be different. But the last I checked, it wasn’t making the NFC championship that Goff struggled with. And before you throw out history. Doing so is acknowledging Goff’s Super Bowl appearances and beating Mahomes and all that doesn’t matter either. You don’t get to cherry pick the argument. Either it all matters or none of it does.
No, people don’t care about the Tigers or Pistons. They don’t care why should we? Also now we have $121 Million of $255.5 Million cap invested in 3 players.
Buy the time they are paying these deals the cap will be 300 and none of them are guaranteed to the end. Brad is getting ahead of the upcoming 60mil a year contracts that ARE going to get signed in the next 2 years when this 1 actually goes into effect
@@robertkurtz6691 yes that’s correct. Mike asked why the people aren’t in more of an uproar about the Tigers and Pistons and why they’re freaking out about the Lions. I was just simply explaining that is why. That’s what I’m hearing from people. 🤷
