Replacing the low beam bulb on this model can be daunting. Let Dean show you how in 4K video (includes hand built props). Bulb used: Sylvania Silverstar H7
So much DEDICATION just from the cardboard model alone. Your COMMITMENT to clarity is amazing. I appreciate your superb step-by-step instruction. Thank you so much for your works, Dean :)
Many thanks for the video. I was too lazy to remove the liner. Didn't remove the liner, even no screw. Just pushed the liner a bit from the inside to the tire direction in order to have a kind of bumb in the liner to the inside. That brought me the extra space needed in order to change the lamp. After the change, for sure i pushed the liner back from tire side to its normal position.
Very good video I always test to make sure the lights turn on and work properly before reinstalling everything. I’ve had defective bulbs before and it’s not fun to have to do everything twice.
Great Job! I’ve always admired your productions. I consider myself a RUclips fan and subscribe mainly to repair channels. I have found your work to be among the best. Your videos are informative, illustrative, (love the close ups) functional and above all… useful! It’s obvious to me, you take your time in both the task and the presentation. Keep it up and thank you!!!
Wow, thank you Ms. Hall. I appreciate your taking the time to watch the videos and especially, taking the time to comment. I must admit, sometimes I wonder if folks notice the attention to detail, but I try and turn out work that I'd want to see, if I didn't know how to do a particular fix. Your comments make it worthwhile and you don't know what it means to me. Dean
If I could tip you one way or another I would The video is so well done it brings me chills while psychologically preparing for a pain in the ass job that was supposed to be simple Thank you
@@PilotViewProductions Excellent video.! Girlfriend just bought a 2008 E350 with a driver side lowbeam headlight issue (Looks like ballast) as new bulb didn't light up. Just subscribed 😊
To think you only have 6.86k subs (as of July 1, 2024 ) after all this detailed work and illustration is crazy. Viewers need to sub. As i did. Thanx a lot for your efforts! Just noted as i posted that this video alone had over 69k views/overall views of your vids to date are over 2million. That amount of subs alone would add more $$ to your pocket. c'mon folks it costs nothing to sub and reward this gentleman for his awesomeness 😊
I don't think anyone has posted anything nicer since I've been producing these videos. I really appreciate it and the realization of the efforts involved. Thank you. Dean
Thank you so much! This was very helpful. Fortunately for us it was the passenger side, which is easier to get to, but still close and you need to “feel” your way in twisting the assembly out and putting it back - so it was wonderful to see your model. In looking at the driver’s side, I wondered, it seemed like you could leave the stiff bright silver tubing in place, but unbolt and temporarily move the other part over to access from the top. Not sure if that would work - wondering if you tried that and it turned out removing the wheel well was easier. (Also as a woman, maybe lucky because my hands are small). At any rate. Thank you again so much.
Thanks for viewing and for the complimentary comments Ela-Elizabeth. I'm glad the passenger side was easier for you. Yeah, on mine, the tubing looked like something related to coolant or a/c so I definitely didn't wanna monkey with that. As far as removing other parts up top to try and access the bulb panel: I just didn't see a way outside of taking off parts I wasn't familiar with and trying to advise others the same way. That seemed a bit sketchy and 'what if' I removed something that caused additional problems for people? Better to take the 'long way home' and not risk it. The best 'shortcut' I could advise people might be to leave the wheel on, turn it hard to the outside and just remove the part of the fender liner forward of the wheel, and then reach up under the liner to change the bulb. BTW: thanks for recognizing the helpfulness of the model...that was a pain to build. Dean
As Colombo would say ….ahhhhhh one more thing; ). I just changed out drivers side low beam without wheel removal. I have the om642 diesel in my 2011 e350. If you’ve got small hands, it’s doable. I had to use a piece of rubber gasket to grab the bulb housing and twist… was cutting through my nitrile gloves.
Excellent! Perhaps the diesel configuration may have been a bit different...nevertheless; I felt I had to show the procedure that would fit probably the greatest population of the audience...with normal to larger hands perhaps. If I had 'only' shown a top-down solution, folks would 'fuss' that they couldn't get it done that way cause it was too tight, or they didn't feel comfortable removing OEM air conditioning or other factory parts to get to the bulb.
Thanks for the GREAT Video! Do you think that if one were to turn the wheel to the far left that there would be enough room to perform this procedure without removing the wheel?
A good video, i shall be upgrading these bulbs as the W212 has such bad low beam, My neighbour sold his W212 due to this problem, being older a rarely drive at night now but when i do its a worry hence the upgrade. W212 can suffer rear subframe corrosion leading to failure of the frame, Mercedes will replace the subframe free of charge. RGDS Cheshire UK
Thanks for viewing. Beware of upgrading to LEDs without using resisters. I tried upgrading just the driving lights and they flickered then went out and the car threw a code. Sylvania says I need an inline resister for each bulb upgraded on this year model.
On my 2011 MERCEDES-BENZ E350 CONVERTIBLE theres a door flap outside the headlight access in the tyre arch. No need to lift car or take tyre off. Turn the car on and turn wheel in one direction and turn of car. Pull flap out and stick your hand in.
No need to remove the tire or fender liner. Get a plastic pry tool and separate the liner. You can bend the liner just enough to access the headlight assembly. Remove the cover and then remove and replace the bulb. This will take approximately 15-20min to do. After installing just pop the liner back into place, no need to reinsert taps or screws.
@@TomIspeeping Although that may be true, would be impossible to film. Someone also suggested that with enough contortions you can go in from the top of the engine. That may be an option as well but no one has shown it yet. Do you have a video of your method?
I didn't see it mentioned that the locking tabs are not 180˚ apart, more like 160˚, so the ring is keyed to the housing opening. It may fit in the wrong orientation, but .won't be correct and could possibly come loose later.
Sorry, no one here in NC has small hands.....ahem...and I'm fresh out of ideas as to where to borrow a couple. Maybe my granddaughter..."uh, honey, would you try and reach down inside the engine compartment and turn that black cover, then reach inside and remove that bulb?". She's 6, so I don't think she'd be of much help.
@@PilotViewProductions I tried this guys video technique, ruclips.net/video/Vvv2LjPafBY/видео.html ,and was able to change the bulb in a couple of minutes from the top,I have normal hands, LOL
Requiring wheel and liner removal to change a low beam bulb is absolutely horrendous engineering. Why people still seem to think Mercedes is a leader in design is beyond me. They may have, at one point, been good. But these days, it's just expensive. Not well designed at all.

Hi!mercedes e class w212, it uses high beam and low beam on the same bulb, but the high beam does not work, what would be the problem
Now that's how you make a clear and instructive video. White men for the win!
