There’s just something about the way a Leyland.680 sounds. It’s beautiful, distinctive and has character, just like the Atlantean itself. People don’t appreciate what an amasing job Leyland engineers did on the Atlantean, packing a rear mount engine all the way at the back of the frame and having the radiator fan and dynamo be driven from a shaft, then encasing it so the sides swing out and the bonnet lifts for maximum serviceability. I’d love to see how the gearbox couples to the rear differential since the gearbox is mounted to one side.
Wow. A London Country "rubberlips" Atlantean from 1972, with Park Royal body - Roe made similar bodies too, mainly for the North. I never knew that they were so old, though, the ones I saw were 1977-1978 registrations.
+Michael Twigg I really would like to own a bus like these michael, its the 0680 engine and its noise lol. Really wish you luck on restoration though. If she runs why not put in a bus rally?? Be nice to have a ride on the bus :) thanks
I was thinking the same re time for a gear change. Not as badly as the Crosville VR on the Bristol circuit (how appropriate) trying to tackle a hill in 4th gear about 3.40 into the clip. The whine in the gearbox was decidedly mournful. Great watch though, thoroughly enjoyed it. Am trying to wean myself off the Bristols.
The GM standards the Park Royal and Northen Counties Bodies, the 0.680 for the Atlanteens and Gardner or leyland engines for the Fleetlines. Memories of school journeys or any journeys

I have many fond memories of huddersfields fleetline and atlanteans in the 80s they ran up to around 95 then replaced by Volvo and Dennis Lance's.
Worked on many of these for many years as a Vehicle Electrician for London Country Bus Services Ltd
Good memories.

Love these atleans
Sounds lovely :)
perfectly driven. well done
I've got JPL101K (AN1). I'm gradually restoring it on my shoestring budget after it was neglected for years, I really like these buses.

Thanks, I might just do that one day...

The Atlantean O.680 and the Albion Viking EVK55CL the most distinctive British buses
Aboutsley love legoland Atlantean buses
British buses sound similiar when they idle
why is the engine idle so high?
I noticed that--cant be doing the gearbox any good, hopefully they rectified it
Ya might wanna check that registration again :)
Yes, spotted it--rectified but still stayed on the intro, thnx:)
:)
I hope Wesley Pegden won't get hold of it.
