  • AMV set to All the Things She Said by Tatu. Probably not the most original idea but I'm proud of it. I know the message of the song is something different from a mother-daughter relationship but I think it works well with that context. Also has a bit of Zuko - Azula rivalry throughout the video. I use Final Cut Pro only since my computer crashes when handling post-production software.

    she won't admit it, but she yearns for the approval and love of her mother just as much as zuko longs for the same from his father. to bad she doesn't have an Iroh like figure in her life.

    Ursa did love her children, but she was a flawed woman. She abandoned her children when they needed her most, and she is just as guilty of favoritism as Ozai is. I know why Ursa ran away. It was to protect her children, specifically Zuko. Nontheless she should've taken Zuko and Azula with her when she left. By leaving she left her children alone to be abused mentally and in some cases physically by their father. She even wanted to forget her children because the pain was "too much." On top of leaving she also favors one child over the other just as Ozai did. Granted, Ozai's favoritism of Azula was due to her stronger firebending skills rather than out of love for his daughter, but he clearly favors Azula over Zuko. Ursa, on the other hand, is seen to favor Zuko over Azula. Granted I don't believe Ursa's favoritism of Zuko was intentional. She was deeply concerned for Zuko's wellbeing. Nonetheless she did favor Zuko, and I believe that favoritism was part of the reason Azula ended up so screwed up. They do establish Azula had issues even as a child, but that may be because of exposure to her father from a young age. Azula is seen to have some more normal emotions here and there so I don't believe the way she ended up was wholly inevitable. Perhaps if she had had a more loving hand from her mother or even Iroh she would've been better off. I don't believe Ursa is a bad woman, but she does have her flaws. I commend this franchise for showing that every single human being is flawed.

    • @moonflower813
      @moonflower813 9 лет назад +12

      I do feel it's important I add something. I don't necessarily think a change in Azula's circumstances would have fixed her mental health issues. While I do think it was wrong of Ursa to leave her children with their father and favor Zuko over Azula, it's possible Azula was doomed from the start. Or at least doomed to feel little sympathy for others. I think Azula and Ozai both suffered from psychopathy which I believe can be genetic. If so then at the very best Azula could've been taught how to function like a normal person, but not to have the sympathy and empathy of a normal person.

    • @moonflower813
      @moonflower813 8 лет назад +15

      ***** Of course Ursa isn't largely to blame for how Azula turned out. Ozai had a much more direct influence on Azula, so he's largely to blame for how she turned out. But Ursa did have some role.

      sunburst223 Actually, The Search comics cover the backstory behind everything. Ursa wanted to take her kids with her, but Ozai threatened to hunt them down and kill them all if she did. The reason that she favored Zuko was because he was a sweet kid and part of her wished that he was the son of her former boyfriend. The comics show that Ozai agreed to treat Zuko as if he were the bastard child of another man because that's what Ursa wished he was. Zuko wasn't his father's favorite anyways, so it wasn't hard to treat him poorly. When Zuko and Azula finally find their mother, she says that she wished that she loved her kids more. She chose to forget them to start a new life. She was a flawed person, but no mother would willingly forget her kids. Azula is such a sad character because she is literally haunted by the illusion of her mother. Ursa was a huge part of her mental unraveling.

      i watched one video on their backstory and it said Ursa had a lover but was forced into marrying ozai who she never loved. She was forced to leave her children to save them and later she made a pact with a spirit who changed her face and made her forget her previous life altogether. She was destined never to see her children again so what was teh point of remembering them and suffering while they taught she abandoned them anyway? i dont blame her. her previous lover was killed also.

Imagine if she grew up right! She would’ve literally become the Fire Nation’s greatest leader if Iroh had tried to save her like he did with Zuko. One thing I don’t understand though is why they never told her that she was the great granddaughter of Roku. She could’ve actually changed tbh

      @@dyzu2377Azula is stronger than him. The reason why she lost in agni Kai is because she wasn't really stable at that time. Even zuko admitted that he can't defeat azula by himself that's why he brought katara by his side. The reason why he fought confidently azula on 1v1 is because he realized that something's off with her that night and that's the part when azula went insane and messed up her mind. If she was stable that time, she would pretty recked zuko and katara alone.

    azula and her brother zuko are the most interesting characters in the last airbender. first the last airbender is one of the best animated shows ever... en second about those 2. azula was more connected to her father and zuko to his mother. azula has more ozai dna than zuko making her fearless and some kind of a monster. at first she doesn't care much about anyone and she uses fear as a tool to make hereself confertable... she is a prodigy and has been treated like in here whole life.... like iroh said about zuko: he is a mix between the firelord and the avatar and has more of ursa's dna... a very interesting thing because in the real world you can also see a difference between 2 siblings and tell if they have more from the father or the mother... ursa seems to love zuko more because she feels and sees more of her in his character and she understands her daughter has the dna of the firelords.... i think she wanted to love both children and she had a hard time to realize and accept azula was different and looked more of her father whom she secretly hated. when azula becomes mentally unstable and sees an image of her mother in the mirror whe finally see the real azula. the one who wanted and wants the attention and love from her mother...

  • @author4570
    @author4570 7 лет назад +36

    Sadly, she went actually crazy that Zuko locked her up in a mental clinic. Look up the comic, there's an arc where Azula helps the Gaang to find their mother, some letters pops up in the middle (Zuko finds their mother afterwards so if she stayed and did not tear up the letter she would've stayed stable and gotten better) and thought the letter was for her, in the end there's a page showing her being in leather chains in a seat.

      arvien claveria I think she was actually almost back to sanity in Smoke and Shadows though. It’s just that power is really the only thing she cares about now. If she was still insane then she could’ve just killed Zuko and everyone else (which tbh she is pretty capable of) lol by then she just wanted Zuko to rule like her father did, as she was taught from a young age. Shame really... I wanted the creators to give her a happy ending :/ She deserves it the most out of anyone else...

    It also depends on where you hang out, with whom you communicate, what you watch and what you read.
    I'm not saying that Azula would be a goody goody but if someone tried to teach her what is compation and love, she would not be the way she is. She did show positive emotions in Beach episode.
    All she ever heard was that controlling, killing and manipulating is good. And that came from her own father who was a Fire Lord and whom followed everyone. Who is she to doubt it?

    Azula showed classic signs of being a sociopath (cruelty, apathy, no sense of guilt, and "enjoying" other's pain), but that doesn't make her an "evil" person. More than likely it was inherent or taught (nature vs. nurture) by her father and possibly even her grandfather. Really, she didn't stand a chance, but she was an awesome character. She was complex, and totally kick ass.

    When Katara froze Zuko in season 1, I noticed Zuko was still able to speak while in her ice trap, meaning that the ice wasn't as thick or wasn't hugging him as close, Azula was only able to move her eyeballs. But I agree with you, Azula beat Aang when he had 3 elements down, IMO Aang using airbending is better than Katara minus bloodbending, she doesn't take katara seriously when they fight, like in episode CoD and when she was defeated this time she was insane and couldnt even beat Zuko.

    There have been other "All the Things She Said" AMV's from but I think this one is the best. I like the concept, and the effects were really cool.

    I got so sad when Azula said to her father, " I thought we were going to do this together". It just shows that even her own father and mother didn't love her as much as Zuko. I think this is why she went crazy in the last episodes.

    Firebending requires breath. Zuko still had some left because he held his breath before going under, but Azula had no time because she was taken completely by surprise.

    HOWEVER even with perfect parents and good mentors, each individual is responsible for their own actions. Azula already had a mean streak of her own before her father nurtured it. For example, I have a family member who turned bad (I mean, this guy is a jerk) but he was treated the same way by mother and father as his other siblings.

    I think you look at it wrong. Azula always strived for importance and acceptance from both her father and her mother she never got it. I always thought of Ozai as as a man who did not even like Azula, but just a tool to be used Zuko was not as gifted so he used Azula more. The other point being Azula made those comments as a way to try to find worth with herself when she said Ozai was going to kill Zuko she had a bit of something that made her fell as if she was better and Azula uses it.

    I don't really see her as an true villain, she has potential to become an antihero or dark hero type especially after the most recent story where she proves that potential ( because an dark spirit tries to twist her mind but she didn't fall for its tricks and succumb to its games) and instead of attacking former allies she just scoffs them and walks away...

    Wow, this video has surprisingly made me feel a little more sympathy for Azula...she still got exactly what was coming to her, yes, but seriously, Azula was messed up. LOL And while Ursa came off to Azula as loving Zuko more, Azula was still definitely favored more by Ozai...like seriously, Ozai didn't give a flying f**k about Zuko, his own son, but at least Ursa still genuinely cared about Azula, her own daughter.

    the power to fire bend comes from the breath ... zuko could breath when he got out. Azula's head was under water so she couldn't breath
    Yeah azula rocks

  • @MorikoXNaruto

    haha I didn't even remember the comment until just now but again (this is based on memories from a year ago so correct me if I'm wrong) her dad was kinda cold and never really had a close relationship with her dad. It was kind of like yeah she had her dad for longer but he was out of her reach and even though zuko had his mom for a MUCH shorter time he actually felt the love and didn't need reassurance while Azula was constantly searching for that reassurance as to that they loved her..

  • @ShyyGaladriel
    @ShyyGaladriel 12 лет назад

    I actually like that, they didn't make Zuko and Azula's mom perfect. The dad was truly messed up, and he blatantly favored Azula, so Mom did what most mothers do in that situation; she babied the other child. Azula became manly due to her father's attention but was stunted when it came to womanhood. Zuko, however, was very sensitive. So much so that his mother leaving tore him up. Iroh became the father to call out the man in Zuko, which is why he turned out so well.

    Mother looking at me tell what do see yes I've lost my mind daddy looking at will I ever be free have I crossed the line. Even tho I didn't like what Azula did to people I don't believe she's a monster just like zuko she and him where broken in different ways both taught to hate. I just wish somehow she could've been taught love and be loved and her and Zuko could've been loving and happy siblings

  • @toby4700
    @toby4700 14 лет назад

    @froggymicwop Yes, the song's about lesbians, but listen to the words, "All the things she said" Ursa made a lot of potentialy scarring comments about Azula,"Mother look at me, what do you see?" do I even have to elaborate? Also it convays a lot of confusion and frustration, both of which Azula was going through.
