- Police are searching for as many as five suspects who took cash and lottery tickets from multiple 7-Eleven locations in the Long Beach area overnight.

I'm not an expert on this, but if a lottery ticket isn't scanned (paid for), and if one of those tickets is a winner and they go cash it. Wouldn't they get caught? I've heard of stories of stolen lottery tickets attempting to be cashed but the person is either arrested or they can't claim the money. Anyone know???
I heard if mot scanned it won't activate kinda like a gift card. But I'm not sure cuz either way they'd know it was stolen

@BartSimson-zv5gx yes you mean the books that we have a phone number to and write down each active book and can call in 2 seconds to cancel an activated book of scratchers at any time and flag them for stolen? Those books? Yea my man, they get canceled. Lol and when you try to turn one in have fun!!! It'll be a hell of a light show.
More than likely the criminals are going to sell them to people who may be unaware that they’re buying bad tickets.
I once saw a ad on craigslist for someone trying to sell $100 worth of “unscratched tickets” for $50. I didn’t report it. I just thought to myself a “nice try”

Illegal drugs are causing a lot of this type crime.
by lottery tickets i assume they mean scratch-offs, which is the dumbest thing in the world to steal. it's not just ignorant, it's profoundly stupid.
it's been a long time since i owned a convenience store, but i promise you you're not getting away with this even if it's an 'inside' job, basically where an employee steals the tickets and plays them themselves. it's been tried before, trust me. if the store was doing their shut down procedure, the tickets are deactivated overnight anyway. the next day, the lottery is going to permanently close all your books (a package of tickets) and just bring you replacements, and if someone tries to cash a winner the retailer will get a special code.
how can you get away with it? well, assuming the books are left activated, you would steal them, scratch all night looking for winners, go to a store that opens before the one that got robbed (assuming the cops hadn't shown up and contacted the owner for them to contact the lottery at night), and cash them at a place that actually cashes tickets in. then, *maybe* if you meet all this ridiculous criteria which isn't going to happen, you might get away with a couple of bucks.
understand that you're not dealing with local cops who have more important things to do, you're fu c king around with a government agency who have people that find sh it out *because it's what they do.* lol. as far as lottery scams, cheats, frauds, and thefts go, your dum b as s isn't lucky or smart enough to get away with it if who you are is reduced to stealing scratch-offs.

You're absolutely correct. Our store opens at 6am and a store was hit in Manhattan Beach. They were able to cash some in before we noticed they had packs of scratchers on them. Cops didnt care and when we stopped cashing them they went to another store.

to rick hammond: that's what i mean by inside job. it was a kind of fad here in ohio many years ago, they always got busted, though. while lotteries agencies are shockingly poorly run and managed, they do track tickets like it's nobody's business.

Stealing scratchers is literally the most brain dead thing you can do. Those have barcodes that are meticulously tracked by the agency and can be deactivated on a whim.
Breaking news. Suspects are African American. Tickets get deactivated. Suspects file class action lawsuit of deactivation due to “racism”. Big BLM movement and end up winning record settlement

It takes a good working team to stick to a plan I give them credit for that.
But robberies like a 71 year old man robbing Chase Bank give Chase Bank a bad image.
A little thief robbed a big one is a good story for millions of Americans; made the old man a legend as standing to the big guy.
Girls and boys are supposed be finding each other in love and starting careers in good paying jobs for a family of their own not robbing chain stores.

The numbers are numbers for one economy but the other economy where the robberies happen there aren’t any numbers at all. Governments statistics are false for this reason. Stats are wrong because they are one-sided, they show half the story, and the policies based on them become one sided policies that have bad effects in society. If a president does not straighten this out and get the full picture. No matter who is in office. Trouble ahead. Deep trouble. There are two economies with double consumption habits and patterns. They have two different functions for each of the two economies that when you look at the whole picture people are living two separate modes of life in America. The Big and little thieves are on a head on collision course like the trains of the MTA that crashed and derailed. Apparently because the supervisor did not heed the call of the conductor to stop the train sounds like what the next president will do at the signs that show there are danger zones in the economy, and he thinks all is great.
