As a huge fan of 'Rage for Order' .... I'm sickened by the fact that I just now found out this song was a cover on that record and that I went all these years without ever hearing this version.... or even the fact that I never heard of this awesome lady.... I'm going to have to spend money on her music now. Thanks for the upload.
Honestly, I've lost a little respect for Queensyche now, whom I absolutely LOVED in the 80s. They barely changed anything about this song and it came out the same year? WTF?
I think Geoff Tate was a better singer at the time, but Lisa Dalbello was such a prolific musician and imo influenced so many other people after her. The operatic style, the 1920s horror themes. Lots of people copied her, especially her later work.
Holy shit. This is the wonderful original of the Queensryche cover. Fantastic song. Why didn't this become a worldwide hit with the huge EMI behind her back? She clearly deserved a place in the greatest music history for this song. Music industry were always unfair. :(
Thankfully, she's done well for herself in the industry without widespread fame which might even be cooler for her. Pretty interesting Wikipedia info about her resistance to label pressures.
I only knew the Queensryche version of this song. I'm enjoying Dalbello's performance. This tune would seem to have been one that Tina Turner would have covered as well - it seems to be right up her alley to me. Very cool learning about this song after all these years.
Liusa Dalbello is a singing talent that can sing what she chooses to sing.. She also wrote this tune, so that might be another reason Mr. Tate chose to cover this song. He did a great job and his interpretation is very close to hers. Wonder where he got it from?
As many people stated in here I've just discovered that one of my fave QR tunes is in fact a cover song. I watched this with a smile on my face, her stage presence and performance are astonishing. The studio version is amazing as well, but she simply KILLS onstage.
She is an awesome performer. The sound quality is very good for live. She's a real cutie too. Lisa's been around for a long time. I'm a serious musician and I appreciate real good original stuff like this. I would love to meet her!
The drummer at 3:09 is incredible. Some of the audience thought: Oh, song's soon over, outro next. ;-) Btw, I cannot stop saying that I never heard such a voice like Lisa's! In love since '80
I always did think this sounded different than Queensryche's usual style! Now I know why! And Lisa Dalbello is kickass (even though I just heard of her this minute).
I saw her live in Norway, after she had released her first album. What a stage prescence! She didn't have enough songs for the encore, so she had to do a couple of the songs she had done earlier for the second time!
Y'know, Queensryche's version is more than creepy enough, but when Lisa does it, it's downright disturbing. Like get a restraining order-level disturbing.
This is very good but a perfect example of a cover being better than the original. Queensryche brings this great song to a whole new level with Tates haunting vocals and superior music added in
I love you Lisa Dalbello,I think you are a pretty woman.I like your songlyrics.I am wanna get close to you.I get excited when I hear your footstepts on the hall. I believe you are a fool, you are a fool without the wings of an angel.I believe youre a pretty one, maybe I am wrong maybe I am right you are some kind of a lunatic.
Check Alex Lifeson's Victor album for vocals that some mistook for Geddy Lee . That album 'Victor' came out in 1996 and it is first catching on because of RUSH's perserverance in Rockdom
Were a few excellent female Cdn. progressive artists at the time. Carole Pope another notable. Dalbello influenced Maria del Mar of National Velvet, another greatly under appreciated Canadian artist !! :-]
She does a good impression of a lunatic, like her version from a girl's point, BUT, Geoff does an equally awesome job singing this, and a pretty good job as a lunatic on stage when he sings it!!
It’s way more direct, and has more emotion behind it. The mood changes can be felt too, and the chorus feels like catharsis after the tense verses before it
@seasack1 I guess not. I've never seen KD Lang or Melissa Etheridge try to do metal. But if you are referring to Lisa Dalbello, she is not a lesbian, adn was not trying to do metal.
This is awesome! It's like she borrowed some ideas from Queensryche's cover version and combined them with her original to synthesize something greater than the sum of the two. :-D
I always thought this was a Queensryche song (and theirs is my favorite version), but Dalbello's original is awesome, as well, and fits the song better than Queensryche's metal version.
I like the Queensryche version better, but this is a good to alternative....I'm still freaking out old Queensryche fans by playing this for them..... that this was not their original...hahaha..... Interesting that Queensryche actually points to the fact, in their video, that it's actually the woman who is stalking him, not as much the other way around.... .
I saw Lisa do this at the Coronet in Kitchener ont with her original band back in the early 80's before Queenryche covered it.. Yes the Queensryhe version might be better , but its a cover from someone else...Kinda like David lee roth doing a cover of a beach boy tune huh?
@wasp3451 Everyone's voice sucks compared to Tate. If you hold him as the standard, you'll never like anyone else (except perhaps Ann Wilson who is every bit as talent in the female category). This is HER song though. She wrote it about herself. Apparently she impressed Tate enough to want to do it himself.
little cindi lauperish, but now i know where queensryche got it from.she seems a little psycho but what do you want from a vampire that can live forever.............................
Sounds like Cyndi Lauper. I wish QR would have not recorded this song. One of the weakest tracks, if not the weakest on the record. They should have had "Prophecy" instead, on the original recording.
@@michaelschmidt9708 ok dude. Doing a weird cover by an obscure female Canadian singer, over an original? I think many people would disagree with you. It's like Van Halen. I'd rather hear a lesser original than any of the covers they did, with the exception of "You Really Got Me."
As a huge fan of 'Rage for Order' .... I'm sickened by the fact that I just now found out this song was a cover on that record and that I went all these years without ever hearing this version.... or even the fact that I never heard of this awesome lady.... Honestly, I've lost a little respect for Queensyche now, whom I absolutely LOVED in the 80s. They barely changed anything about this song and it came out the same year? WTF?
THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS tune....tuff enough....was a COVER TOO!!!! Almost all the bands that you like that had a hit tune...was a cover!!! Sucks.
+Golgotha_Mythos69 QR's came out in 86. Not the same year.
+Troy W Yeah, bummer right?! Hahaha! But cool of QR to do it. Quite ballsy.
I think Geoff Tate was a better singer at the time, but Lisa Dalbello was such a prolific musician and imo influenced so many other people after her. The operatic style, the 1920s horror themes. Lots of people copied her, especially her later work.

good observation,, i can see that
This is nothing like Tina Turner
im like a hungry criminal...and your protection is minimal....what a line!
You all need to check out the studio version also. The QR version pales beside it.
That is just brilliant! She almost scared me! Wonderfull! Dalbello is goddess!
Liusa Dalbello is a singing talent that can sing what she chooses to sing.. She also wrote this tune, so that might be another reason Mr. Tate chose to cover this song. He did a great job and his interpretation is very close to hers. Wonder where he got it from?
shes just amazing period...
As many people stated in here I've just discovered that one of my fave QR tunes is in fact a cover song. I watched this with a smile on my face, her stage presence and performance are astonishing. The studio version is amazing as well, but she simply KILLS onstage.
Absolutely great singer songwriter performer, outstanding.
Lisa Dalbello is brilliant!!!!
No one like her.
And she's incredibly nice too!
She is an awesome performer. The sound quality is very good for live. She's a real cutie too. Lisa's been around for a long time. I'm a serious musician and I appreciate real good original stuff like this. I would love to meet her!
Thanks for sharing !!!!!!!!
Dalbello Yeah play it LOUD !
The drummer at 3:09 is incredible. Some of the audience thought: Oh, song's soon over, outro next. ;-)
Btw, I cannot stop saying that I never heard such a voice like Lisa's!
In love since '80
I always did think this sounded different than Queensryche's usual style! Now I know why!
And Lisa Dalbello is kickass (even though I just heard of her this minute).
Keyboards add so much depth.
oh yeah,,, right in the beginning
Awesome..she had 3 great albums
a stunning performance!
Had no idea this was the original. Lisa and Geoff even look the same.
I saw her live in Norway, after she had released her first album. What a stage prescence! She didn't have enough songs for the encore, so she had to do a couple of the songs she had done earlier for the second time!
Super good song. Lyrics send chills.
I haven't seen this version before! Great post. She's so damn awesome!
She is sooooooo awesome! A very little known talent. Rock on Lisa!
Y'know, Queensryche's version is more than creepy enough, but when Lisa does it, it's downright disturbing. Like get a restraining order-level disturbing.
Cletus Beauregard “restraining orders disturbing” lmfao
Lol well put 😂👍
right , haha
OMG that was just AWESOME. I really enjoyed that performance. Now excuse me because I HAVE TO watch it again :)
loved the music
this is incredible......i thought queensryche did a great job by covering some unknown song,but...this girl is amazing by herself!
She rocks. What a writer and singer. Love her. Thanks for uploading.
Fun fact: Queensryche planned to have her sing Sister Mary’s parts on Operation: Mindecrime but she declined.
WoW!!!
awsome!
A very creepy tune. She is the original performer of the tune & Queensryche version is very good as well, but you cant beat Lisa.
Queensryche version is better. This is cool though
Wahnsinnstitel, Hervorragende Künstlerin, schräg und doch überzeugend, herrlich dieses Bildmaterial.Das war noch was. Auch die Version von Queensryche ist hörenswert.
Thanks for sharing this one! I love all those Dalbello videos that show up lately!
A friend of mine had this original song and a soon as Queensryche's version was released, I was blown away.
Ich kannte erst die Version von Queensryche - bin erst über die auf Dalbello gekommen - immer wieder SEHR erfrischend an die 80er & 90er erinnert zu werden!
I actually like both versions!!!☺☺☺
this reminds me that such a pretty woman is the crown upon god his head by the perfection of woman like lisa dalbello
2021... thinking Back! Great Times, my best😁😘🤘
This is very good but a perfect example of a cover being better than the original. Queensryche brings this great song to a whole new level with Tates haunting vocals and superior music added in
hey!!!!! I'm from montreal... Close to you!
Amazing. Love it. And Queensryche version too.
God, I miss the 80s!
The guitar player looks like Steve Stevens and the bass player looks familiar too.
I think it WAS Steve Stevens...
Check Alex Lifeson's Victor album for vocals that some mistook for Geddy Lee .
That album 'Victor' came out in 1996 and it is first catching on because of RUSH's perserverance in Rockdom
richard casale Start Today is my favourite track from Victor, and is why I'm checking out Dalbello right now. 👍🏻
hi lisa" have to say im a big fan of your's also. thank you for the reply.
Were a few excellent female Cdn. progressive artists at the time. Carole Pope another notable. Dalbello influenced Maria del Mar of National Velvet, another greatly under appreciated Canadian artist !! :-]
Looking at this and the Rage for Order era, Queensryche didn't just cover her song, but her whole style as well
👵❤
Writer, singer, performer, teacher,
close to you, closer, through & through,
she'll get into you,
can you get into her?
c'est une découverte ,,pour moi ,une bonne surprise ,on ne peut oublier une telle voix ,, j'adore
Wrong! Underrated!!!
Oh Mann. Was war ich in die damals verknallt .....
"And your protection is so goddam minimal!".
you need to upload this in a torrent format! :)
1
This song is very Bowie to me. Mick Ronson :).
Which one you like, the Lisa D'albello or the Queensyrche version of Gonna get close to you?
Both, but the original is so...original.
Definitely Dalbello and *this* here live version :-)
highlander on bass "there can be only one!"
She does a good impression of a lunatic, like her version from a girl's point, BUT, Geoff does an equally awesome job singing this, and a pretty good job as a lunatic on stage when he sings it!!
Her version, though obviously similar, has a noticeably different vibe than Queensryche. I like it.
It’s way more direct, and has more emotion behind it. The mood changes can be felt too, and the chorus feels like catharsis after the tense verses before it
She wrote this
Still like the Queensryche version best but the fact that a chick wrote it is kinda cool.
Wait til they find out how many songs Aimee Mann wrote haha, mind smasher!
Im a big 'ryche fan...never knew this was a cover tune.....Wow!
not that big of a fan then if you didn't know this was a cover. They made no secret of it.
I hope she got some good money for that song.
Lisa is or was the real deal.
Why oh why she isn't performing with Mick Ronson this time...
Actually they used HER ideas.
3:22 that's close alright, a little too close.
@johnkickinwing
people can have more than one voice coach. Just sayin :D
OMG Geoff!!....You've lied to me for over 30 years?!?
There was no lie, it wasn't a secret QR covered it. Do your homework.
I think humour is lost on you.
preachercaine ...not a problem mate....apology accepted.....and Merry Xmas. 🤘🍻
and to you
this is wrong geoffs vocal teacher was a man who called himself the miestro, also known as david kyle.
Who is Kenny G., didgeridoo player, or who? :P
QUEENSRYCHE VERSION "DOCET"
Always thought this was a Queensryche original.
The tag says this was recorded in Jan. 85, Rage was released in June 86. I'm a huge fan of the Ryche version, they did her song justice.
Interesting that Queensryche actually points to the fact, in their video, that it's actually the woman who is stalking him, not as much the other way around....
.
cool... love this song, thought that i like it better with Queensryche...
but this was a great perfromance.
Batman
What
The
Hell
???
I saw Lisa do this at the Coronet in Kitchener ont with her original band back in the early 80's before Queenryche covered it.. Yes the Queensryhe version might be better , but its a cover from someone else...Kinda like David lee roth doing a cover of a beach boy tune huh?
@cooknthyme
Queensryche had the best combination of instruments and therefore is and will always be the better version.
@wasp3451 Everyone's voice sucks compared to Tate. If you hold him as the standard, you'll never like anyone else (except perhaps Ann Wilson who is every bit as talent in the female category). This is HER song though. She wrote it about herself. Apparently she impressed Tate enough to want to do it himself.
you know....this one is good...but Geoff Tate really sounds like a fucking nut when he sings this one...I think its one of Queensryche best songs.
isn't this a Queensryche song??
Those eyebrows lol
little cindi lauperish, but now i know where queensryche got it from.she seems a little psycho but what do you want from a vampire that can live forever.............................
Goddamn the QR version is so much better.
The queensryche version is much better
It seems Queensryche took a poorly executed song and turned it into perfection.
This chick may be the original artist but Queensryche made this song great. Not a fan of this version.
un vrai massacre !!
This is blasphemy Geoff is like wtf
She wrote the song. Geoff covered it. Geoff is a big fan of hers.
This is the original dude.
Sounds like Cyndi Lauper. I wish QR would have not recorded this song. One of the weakest tracks, if not the weakest on the record. They should have had "Prophecy" instead, on the original recording.
'Prophecy' is a good song but has nowhere near the depth of 'Gonna Get Close To You'. There is a reason why 'Prophecy' became a bonus track.
@@michaelschmidt9708 ok dude. Doing a weird cover by an obscure female Canadian singer, over an original? I think many people would disagree with you. It's like Van Halen. I'd rather hear a lesser original than any of the covers they did, with the exception of "You Really Got Me."
Well that was just horrible.
