Hi Jan, there are a few books about the women of the canals in war time, but not really any as you say. Unfortunately some of the older boaters were and still are ashamed or embarrassed about their past, living on a boat back then was hard work. We look back and are so proud of what they achieved, but at the time they were frowned on. Of course it’s a lot different today, as originally canals were the highways of their day transporting goods, food, ammunition etc, but of course today they are for leisure. We feel privileged to be able to live on the canals today and really appreciate the history of this 200+ year old network. It would be good to see some more books about boaters. Thanks Jan! xx

Hi Kath, so lovely to have you onboard with us! It’s nice to know you are enjoying our videos! And hey, never say never, there are a couple of ways you could spend some time on the canals, have you seen there are hotel canal boats? You have staff in separate quarters who drive the boats, cook and clean etc like a regular hotel, often in a separate boat in front, towing the hotel boat. So you get to experience the canals, locks and different places by boat without any of the physical work. I know you didn’t say you had any mobility issues, but on the Llangollen canal, they have the Lineal Trust, who cater for anyone with mobility challenges and their boats are modified to allow wheelchair access etc, here’s a link to their website, you would love the Llangollen, it’s beautiful! www.lyneal-trust.org.uk/ Here’s a link to hotel canal boats too www.hotelboating.co.uk/ Really hope you get the chance to experience a few days on the water! xx

So glad you enjoyed your time with your daughter, family time is precious! Lol re Martin, yes a lesson learnt for sure. Usually when we are on our own, the boat just sits there and doesn’t move, however with the momentum of Nikki’s boat moving out of the lock, it took Rhapsody with it lol. Thanks Nicholas! xx
Hey Julie and Martin, could those strange colourful buildings be a pencil factory by any chance? Just a thought. Oh and one other piece of advice if I may, yes always take a line with you when you get off the boat, the trick is of course to leave the other end of the line attached to the boat ! Take care, Peter.
A pencil factory, that would be clever wouldn’t it! Lol re the line, that would be really funny if he remembered the rope but it wasn’t attached hahaha 🤣 Thanks Peter! xx
Hi Julie, have you ever lost a windlass?? I notice you'd put it on the top of the cratch cover & also on the lock beam.... I usually leave mine behind at the lock. Welly Mike & Alison.
Hi Mike & Alison! Hope you’re both well 🥰 Thankfully I’ve not lost a windlass yet (touch wood) I usually put it in my strap(on), but occasionally on the beam if I’m filming and still need to put the paddle down. Some days I’m proper juggling the camera and windlass lol. I have one of those Go-Windlass and they are not cheap, think Martin would have a lot to say if I left it behind 🫣🤪 Thank you! xx
Hahaha 😂😂 that made us chuckle! Bless him, the boat usually doesn’t move when it’s just us, but he didn’t think that the momentum from Nikki’s boat moving out of the lock would take Rhapsody too, Nikki did a good recovery though didn’t she! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB nikki did an excellent job getting that boat back to him. maybe he should have jumped in to retrieve it. modern day version of keelhauling for abandoning his post under fire. you could call it canal crawling. maybe he's just tired of making the crew do all the work and wants to get practiced up on lock gate duties
Yes, I definitely need to conquer driving the boat into locks. Martin enjoys working the locks and it would give me a break too if we could share the duties 😜 Thanks Les! xx
😁 "Normality can return" True, normality is a good thing, even so, do remember that an excessive amount of normality can create a distorted view of reality. _(while that might sound like it should mean something philosophical and significant, it is not certain whether it actually does)_

Yes times are getting very hard, prices in the shops are horrendous now and sometimes we can’t get to supermarkets either. We try to use local shops where we can, but they are even more expensive! 🫣 I have taken to making my own bread and making soups, stews and of course ice-cream and that helps a bit. I enjoy your channel. Consider adding new topics. Every video is locks (we don’t need to see you go through every lock), water reflections, ‘beautiful’ views, rain complaints, fallen tres, towpath conditions. Every video. More variety, please.
Hi there, not sure how we can add more variety, what do you suggest? 🤷♀️ We live on our narrowboat as you know, and we don’t have a car, so our vlogs are our boat life, our journeys along the canals. Locks, tunnels, views, reflections etc are all that is around us, and the weather does play a big part when we cruise. We add a little bit of sightseeing when we do, or take you into villages etc, plus we show services, a bit of DIY, and I do the odd bit of cooking too, not really sure there’s anything else to show, this is boat life. Glad you’re enjoying our little amateur videos so far, thank you! xx
Hi Zona, every Thursday evening at 6.45pm UK time 😃 We’re thinking we might put a few extras out too, as we have a lot of footage and don’t want to get too far behind xx
Hi Zona, no problem, it’s when our black waste holding tank (toilet waste) is pumped out. We have a pumpout toilet, other kinds of toilets on boats are cassette, or compost, we have the pumpout version. We have to have it emptied every 3-4 weeks. Hope this makes sense, thanks! xx
Hi Colin, I think the CRT generally leave it to nature, but if a tree comes down, which they do, then they will come out and clear it. Don’t think there’s enough money for them to be able to trim the vegetation, they are a charity and maintain and keep the locks and tunnels safe as priority. It’s a shame, as some canals could do with a little more tlc. Thanks Colin! xx
Hi there, no Nikki is not related to us, she is one of our close friends, we’re just running together for a while, we will be parting ways soon. Thank you!

Thanks Nicholas! xx
nikki is a star say hello to her from me and julie
We will, she certainly saved the day didn’t she! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB JULIE TOLD ME TO SAY TO YOU LIFE WOULD BE DULL IF YOU AND MARTIN WASNT HERE WE BOTH FANS AND WE MEAN THAT YOUR THE BEST XX
Aww you’re both so kind, we’re so pleased you are enjoying our little vlogs, thank you!
Lol re the line, that would be really funny if he remembered the rope but it wasn’t attached hahaha 🤣 Thanks Peter! xx
The wonderful thing about my life aboard is my son John… he’s a marine engineer … and a humanitarian
Aww that’s lovely, I should imagine that comes in handy 😜 Thanks Nigel! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB and for you guys if you’re ever in a real pickle
Aww thank you Nigel, that’s lovely to know! Hope you’re both well xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB loving the life… 🙏🏼😉❤️
❤
Aww thank you Natalie xx
Hi Julie, have you ever lost a windlass?? I notice you'd put it on the top of the cratch cover & also on the lock beam.... I usually leave mine behind at the lock.
Welly Mike & Alison.
Hi Mike & Alison! Hope you’re both well 🥰 Thankfully I’ve not lost a windlass yet (touch wood) I usually put it in my strap(on), but occasionally on the beam if I’m filming and still need to put the paddle down. Some days I’m proper juggling the camera and windlass lol. I have one of those Go-Windlass and they are not cheap, think Martin would have a lot to say if I left it behind 🫣🤪 Thank you! xx
Seems to me there is a captain that needs to be taken before the mast and demoted!😮
Martin enjoys working the locks and it would give me a break too if we could share the duties 😜 Thanks Les! xx
Jump Martin!!😂😂
Haha 😂 If Nikki hadn’t been there he would have had to lol 😂 Thanks Julie xx
Love your videos, any chance of a video on the camera and editing equipment you use?
Hi Glenn, I hadn’t thought of that, I might see if I can get a video together, thank you! xx
Xx
Thanks Edward, hope you’re well xx
😁 "Normality can return" True, normality is a good thing, even so, do remember that an excessive amount of normality can create a distorted view of reality. _(while that might sound like it should mean something philosophical and significant, it is not certain whether it actually does)_
Lol Scott, that made us laugh 😂😂🤣 don’t think there is any such thing as normality haha, just us being us lol 😜 Thanks Scott! xx
we feel out with morrisons no saver beans
Oh dear that’s not good is it! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB julie i emailed morrisons they said they will look into it but we go on line and do it but julie has gone back to icelands jane one of my customers said tesco do cheap beans 26p a can so she said she will get some for us when she goes shopping i told morrisons to put people first not profit blimey its real stupid to think they are putting every thing up we ant all rich as i told them julie looking for a job we dont want benefits we are to proud for that we would rather pay our way but its getting harder with council tax and rents i dont know how other people do it today i know dwp make people lives a misery for no reason but at least we are happy and you cant buy that but you and martin are a breath of fresh air at least we get to see nice views to which we thank you both very much
Yes times are getting very hard, prices in the shops are horrendous now and sometimes we can’t get to supermarkets either. We try to use local shops where we can, but they are even more expensive! 🫣 I have taken to making my own bread and making soups, stews and of course ice-cream and that helps a bit. Hope Julie finds a little job soon, perhaps in a supermarket, you might get some perks or staff discount too! Thanks Derek xx

Ooh that sounds interesting, please let me have some details 😃👍 xx
Glad you’re enjoying our little amateur videos so far, thank you! xx
I think Boat Time was just at that mooring.
haha yes, it was recommended to us by Julie & Martin! 🤭
Yes, we’re all in the area at similar times! xx
❤️
❤when do you put new videos on?😮
Hi Zona, every Thursday evening at 6.45pm UK time 😃 We’re thinking we might put a few extras out too, as we have a lot of footage and don’t want to get too far behind xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB thats gr8
Excuse my ignorance whats a pump out pls😮
Hi Zona, no problem, it’s when our black waste holding tank (toilet waste) is pumped out. We have a pumpout toilet, other kinds of toilets on boats are cassette, or compost, we have the pumpout version. We have to have it emptied every 3-4 weeks. Hope this makes sense, thanks! xx
Why are the trees not cut back half of the canal taken up by overgrown trees 😤
Hi Colin, I think the CRT generally leave it to nature, but if a tree comes down, which they do, then they will come out and clear it. Don’t think there’s enough money for them to be able to trim the vegetation, they are a charity and maintain and keep the locks and tunnels safe as priority. It’s a shame, as some canals could do with a little more tlc. Thanks Colin! xx
Is Nicki related to you?
Hi there, no Nikki is not related to us, she is one of our close friends, we’re just running together for a while, we will be parting ways soon. Thank you! xx
Yay new video(does happy dance)
😂😂xx
So I guess it’s a water pointless then if it’s not connected 😃
Hahaha 😝 yes, definitely Shane! xx
