He should hire a landscaping crew to come to that cemetery and clean it up, in his grandfather's name. Somebody in a position to should get that cemetery in better condition.
Rich people don't care about things like that. Look at Oprah and the rock trying to raise money to help Maui, when they could easily put their own money up to help those people.
He did do this and added new fencing. The clean up uncovered some headstones and they were properly replaced too. Look it up on Google earth. They say the name of the place. It was forgotten with age not with disrespect.
My heart breaks with him. I cried too. I've spent years piecing together the difficult history of my own family. I have most of the slave records to boot, very soon I will go pay my respects and lay some prayers flowers... give thanks. (Big exhale) The journey is hard. I am, because we are.
ca. 3:11 The editors distorted the message of the printed page by cutting out the direct objects of the sentence ("honesty, industry, economy of time and means, and the fullest enjoyment of all rights as citizens..."), and splicing directly to some other text. Had they not shown the printed page, I would not have known this. This is an example of how post-production can mislead and manipulate, even unintentionally.
Us, that know where we come from..sometimes take it for granted. Lionel after hearing you read your great grandfather's words, I was struck how similar you are and not just in appearance. You are a great man, because you descend from a great man..glad you know more about your lineage, God bless you❤
My ancestor came here from Germany. He had 1 slave. Well his grandson ended up becoming slave owner n farmer. But they were buried in our family cemetery. They are still there an very well kept. Some wasn't treated so good an it's sad.
I did not know that immigrants could just buy slaves. I would assume that most slaves were owned by a few wealthy southern men of the plantation class.
@@heruy8274 As long as he had enough money, I don't see how it would impossible for an immigrant to buy a slave. There were plenty of slaves on smaller farms and in the towns and cities too and not just on the big plantations.
❤ my Grandpa was a caretaker of several local cemeteries and Sexton he was called dug many of Graves untill he was to old to dig back befor they had fancy equipment to do the job and I am very proud of him ❤ continue to be proud and honor your Grandfather 😊

Lionel grew up in the pre civil rights deep south and still has a noble attitude about life

Mrs H 🇬🇧 .... I'm glad I was born after the " Slave " years.... It'd break my heart to see people treat so differently because of colour....
We whites are now being treated differently since the "African Americans" have raised up.
There were abolitionists even before the Civil War, you could have joined them in their cause.

Mr. Richie should get the cemetery cleaned up.
He should engage a landscape firm to clean up the cemetery on his behalf

Do that mean that the great or great'great was the owner/master's son😢!
Yes, that was really not uncommon.
@Furienna you're right! One of my ancestors was the slave owner son.
