I so WISH to be as unaware of the Reylo corners of the internet as Kayla 🤣someone needs to point me in the direction of an article/essay discussing the current chokehold Reylo fic writers have over the romance publishing world. It seems like every other month I hear about a new book that started as a Reylo story. The scientist in me needs to know what's going on lol🧐
yess i dont really care one way or the other because i dont know enough about reylo to notice the references - but i feel like every other book lately is rewritten Reylo fanfic and like??? what is it about them....
But luckily the scientist in you will have plenty to choose from since Ali Hazelwood loves to blend STEM and Reylo 😂

At least in the US, there are many audiobooks available for free on Spotify premium, but you are limited to 15 hrs each billing cycle. Even if you read at a faster speed, the listening time is based off of the book at 1x speed
It is a nice feature, but is not going to replace the other apps that I typically use to listen to audiobooks
There are also a ton of audiobooks that are like regular albums and they're free. The Raven Cycle, Hunger Games, loads of cozy mystery and romance.
Did authors ever figure out how they were going to get paid for this? I remember when it was announced and a lot of authors and publishers being like ????

A vampire book I really loved this year was A Long Time Dead by Samara Breger. We follow a woman from when she’s turned, a baby vamp, and a more seasoned vampire with all the pains of being immortal. There are multiple queer relationships in the story. It’s definitely more of a gothic style character study than action packed vampires, but I really liked getting to know the characters.

The best thing I read from Alix E Harrow is her short story, The Six Deaths of the Saint. It is only 30 pages and is on Kindle Unlimited. I teared up reading it. I didn’t expect that reaction for something so short.

Great video as always. I think that one idea for the list might be (over several years possibly) pick books from people who live in places you have either visited or NEVER heard of.

as for the audiobooks: i found this out but not every country has free audiobooks with premium right now, the US just got them in october so i’m assuming canada hasn’t gotten free ones yet unfortunately

@@graceblondell7320 if you have spotify premium, you should be able to just search any audiobook and it’ll say by the play button if it’s included or not

I feel like Alix E Harrow is such a hit and miss for people and for me she's such a hit and one of my top favorite authors because I've given all her book 5 stars and they all really stay with me
Wrong place, wrong time was my favorite fiction I read this year!! I love mysteries (of course) and I love any story that plays with the idea of time, and I especially love finding out more about the author's rules for their specific type of time travel. I think this story was very different from what I'm used to reading and I was surprised the majority of the play,ot twists and I looove that feeling! I will definitely pick up more from this author!

Spotify has added 15 hours of audiobooks as part of the premium subscription, but initially it was just UK and Australia, and then they rolled it out to the US in November, so I don't think it's available in Canada yet!!

I really liked the book and I didn't know then about Reylo comparison but I don't see it.
I just finished reading it and it was very much of a letdown because there was barely any character work or even work put into making the romance believable. When I went to look at reviews and found out it was a reworked reylo fic it alllll make sense, especially since the author mentions in the acknowledgments the books started as a threadfic on Twitter 😅

For Spotify audiobooks - I had to be signed in as the account owner to listen to any of them for “free”. I have a premium account but I’m not the account holder, so I had to log in as the account holder before any of them had no cost displayed.
A Tale for the Time Being is also on my TBR! More excited to pick it up now.

I believe with the Spotify audibooks you can only listen for so many hours a week/month? Which doesn't work with the amount of hours I listen to audiobooks. I also felt the same way you did about A Tale for Time Being!

Don’t give up on your romance era! For a paranormal cozy mystery-ish romance read Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs by Molly Harper. It’s fun and sassy. The romance admittedly isn’t the main point but it’s there as a B or C plot point.

My spotify said I get 15 hrs per month of free listening for audiobooks I think it may only be certain books though because they sent me the notification for free listening again this month but certain books are locked since I haven't purchased them

I read My Roommate is a Vampire and it was a cutesy-fun 2 day read for me. I liked it because I enjoyed the time spent and I think I would give the author another try since it had potential BUT it is not a story I will remember years from now like Part of Your World or Love, Theoretically. I like Reylo and had NO IDEA that My Roommate is a Vampire was a Reylo fic so, no, you wouldn't have a different opinion if you knew about Reylo.
As someone who is borderline chronically online, it really tickled me that you didn't know what reylo was.
At the end of the year I always realize that I do not listen to music very often. When I do I use Apple because that is the subscription I have. I just am not one to put on music when I am alone. I am more likely to put on a RUclips video or a crime show to listen to while I cook/clean.

Personally, I loved that book because of how funny and low stakes it was so I was sad to see people roasting it so aggressively on Goodreads 😂 also I had no idea it was Reylo inspired?
