    I am a 76 y/o woman, on a blood thinner, who recently cut my thumb in the kitchen. The cut was a dime-sized flap, probably 65% thru, deep into the flesh. It bled and bled and bled despite holding pressure. I heard about a “home remedy” technique & tried it. Took a tea bag and wet it with 1 or 2 tsp of water, and held that against the cut. It did not completely stop the bleeding, but markedly slowed the rate. (I then had it treated at an urgent care office.) I understand this video is concerned with serious bleeding, out in the field, but this is a practical bit of info to use at home. Please don’t anyone criticize me for sharing it. 😊

    If you are by yourself maybe the blood delivery flask should maybe be fitted with a pump that can push air into the bottle to pressure the blood out, and the bottle should maybe be made so it can stand by itself and blood can flow out, like a flat cap it can stand on if you turn it upside down.
    But I guess you can attach any bottle or pump to the hose if you want to

    As someone who is a training technician, who purchases and maintains part-task trainers like these, your video has been really insightful!
    I reccomend anyone looking into purchasing items like these to speak to your local agencies and training providers, as they'll know what these products are like after a few hundred uses, and I've had my fair share of products fall apart very quickly. Also, there's a lot of DIY options coming about nowadays, whatever your budget is, I assure you there's options out there.

    For the Stop-the-bleed class and even tc3 such wound packing mannequins are number one that you need to get. Everything else can be pretty done on buddies.
    Of course quality matters, but in times of big number of militarymen to be taught - even improvised yoga blocks with cuts were used.

    I’ve watched several of your videos and you do an excellent job. I was wondering if you have done any videos on putting together a medium sized medical kit for using on yourself. Items that realistically a person can use on themselves for any medical situation whether that be an illness, auto accident, burn, sports injury, gun shots and so on. I’ve seen your car bags, emt go bags, but there arer lots of items that are easy to use on other people but not so much on yourself. Just trying to put together a kit that has minimal waisted items that don’t need.

How come?

    Must be nice, I have to spread my purchase of clotting agents, gauze or powder out over the year. Meaning buying every 3 months to stock a kit. The higher the chance it's life saving the more expensive the products.

    • @PrepMedic
      @PrepMedic  Год назад

      That’s not actually true. $2 packing gauze and $45 quick clot have zero difference in survival. Also, don’t buy powders, they are ineffective and outmoded.

    Been looking at training supplies to teach non-medical coworkers my EMT knowledge and because I really enjoy teaching. I'm not gonna pretend to know how to manufacture this equipment but for some silicon blend and a squeeze bottle, I'm not sure how this is over $500. It seems like an unfortunate barrier to entry.

    • @alexsmart5452
      @alexsmart5452 Год назад

      The price can't be based on the cost of production and distribution. $500? No it must be based on a limited market demand/demographic..or its based on 'government be paying'. Its to bad its cost prohibited for the normal person who is trying to be a better citizen.

    • @Nylak-Otter

      Yep. Low market demand for the quality and realism for demonstrative purposes rather than functional training for every Jane and Joe out there.
      I'm mostly self-funded as a K9 SAR worker, so this stuff is well beyond my personal needs, particularly because I specialize in detecting and recovering human remains so I rarely am the first at a scene with a survivor. It's cool to watch, though.

    Joking. Mostly. I'm just saying that I'm a human remains detection and recovery K9 handler, so I don't carry a full first responder kit since I'm only supposed to handle the dead. Sometimes weird shit happens and someone in a lost party is still kicking.
    That's why I was stuff like this that were excluded from my kit and training so I know what I should ideally be doing if I wasn't self-funded!
