Hey Sam, netting a musky solo is tricky in a boat, in a canoe it's a real challenge as you have NO room to work with at all! Fish sure seemed fine to me! That day 2 musky was awesome! Love the acrobatic jumps and that you called your shot! Good stuff man!! 👍

Thanks Kyle. Definitely was a new challenge

You might be surprised how many 'skies can congregate into a very small river pool. Years back a couple friends and I found a nice stretch of one of the Potomac's smaller branches and caught half a dozen (all different fish btw) in a tiny stretch, no more than 40' × 15' and mostly ~ 3-4 feet deep

You're right man. Shallow rivers, wide or skinny can be very fun. They definitely pack up in those holes.

you messed that muskies eye up bad

I would say that Musky messed its own eye up. Thankfully the hook came out a lot easier than I though it would and she swam off strong.

I've hooked into a few musky on the mud river around barboursville but haven't landed any yet

What body of water is this?

    • @sgangling

Some bodies of water I will reveal the names of but not this one so that I am protecting it for other anglers who may consider this their honey hole. Thanks for watching though! 👍

Buddy you did just fine netting that beast. That is not an easy task in a canoe. I just bought a kayak and am about to try catching those from it at my local reservoir. I am quite sure if I do catch one and land it without needing band aids when I'm done...I'm calling it a success.

Thank you. All it takes is a head thrash near the net and they can hook themselves on the outside. Has happened a lot with solo netting.

@@sgangling I bought some sweet baits and I changed my reels to have 80lb braid and a 120lb flurocarbon leader. I need a bigger net than what I have so I'm one item away from giving this a whirl.

Bro- been waiting and anticipating some summer muskie content from you, bud, I get it tho, life and family comes 1st-then fishing!!(lol) sorry bout your outboard & vessel damage;hopefully the structural integrity of your boat is still 100%.I'm a Bass and Walleye guy mainly, but after catching my only muskie here in W.V, that is another species I want to learn more about - and your chan is a source for that.Got a nice amount of glides and swimbaits started but wanna learn about the inline spinners with the right angle line tie and maribou, for ex..glad to see a new episode

Thanks for watching man. Life has definitely got in the way and smashing rocks at 20 mph surely didn't help but still finding a way to get out. Good luck to you and thanks for watching.

Thanks man. It's an Okuma Evx 8'6 MH. Paired with the Diawa Lexa WN 400H 6:3:1 gear ratio. Neither are the highest quality option but a good starter setup for sure.

Excellent fishing!!! I've been chasing musky for years but on much bigger water. I see your channel is based out of Pittsburgh and the surrounding area/states. Is this in SW PA or another state?

    • @sgangling
      @sgangling  2 года назад +1

Thanks Matt! Yes I'm based out of Pittsburgh so most of the waters I fish are in and around that area. Tight lines!

Kevin Tod why you always so critical? Get out from behind your computer screen, wipe the Cheeto dust off your fingers and go put out some of your own musky content if you are such an expert 🤷🏻‍♀️
