- Foreigners Flying From Lukla to Kathmandu 🇳🇵 (I was SHOCKED at what happened) is a video where I visit Nepal in Kathmandu in 2022. I can truly say I was blown away by the incredible culture of the Nepalese people. If you're planning on travelling in 2022 I highly recommend adding Kathmandu in Nepal on your radar for places to visit in 2022 as Nepal has to be on there due to its incredible culture and places to visit whilst you're in Kathmandu in Nepal. On this journey, there was an unfortunate event which led to the airline in Lukla not allowing us to board our originally scheduled flight until our sherpa had to speak with them to actually let us on our flight. It wasn’t the ideal situation because my wife was incredibly sick from altitude sickness so we needed to get back to Kathmandu urgently to get care.

As you know I’m always sharing the most real and positive stories, however, on this occasion I had to share my experience with Sumit Air which wasn’t the most pleasant. My experience is that the planes from Lukla to Kathmandu basically are like a bus service running backwards and forwards and the times are all a bit approximate . This is particularly true in the trekking season when often there are less flights than trekkers as the weather tends to get worse as the day goes on . last time I was there the flights were delayed for 4 days and it was obviously chaos at both ends . I ended getting a chopper up . just a suggestion if you are offered a flight at 6 am take it chances are it won't be on time and it just means you will be ahead of the queue for people who've got flights at 7am or 8 am or 9am etc , when the flight finally leaves at 10 am ! all the airlines Summit, Tara, Buddha etc all operate the same .So my advice is try and get on the first one you can in the morning ...best chance of getting away . people miss their international leg because they are stuck at Lukla which is why I give myself 4/5 days leeway at the end . Anyway great set of videos and are certainly an eye opener for the first timers . Namaste Nepal .
yeah,sorry for the inconviniant about your flight scadual, the flights are always unpredictable due to the weather in the himalays and sorry for those unproffessional staff, some of them are just😏!!!..but any ways you have the most gourgious videos,I have watched this year. Our main concern was the way we was treated by staff at the airport bearing in mind my wife was sick from the altitude, they could have handled it 10x better but chose a different route unfortunately. We was lucky to have our Sherpa help us get on our planned flight.

sorry to hear that you had an issue with airlines, let me remind you Yad that i had to wait 2 days in Lukla due to bad weather, and that was really troublesome. my issue puts your in comfortable zone haha,,
finally you are back to ktm, and let us know where is your next destination in Nepal.
The thing was they didnt have an official reason for not wanted us to get on our original flight that we had paid for, there was nothing official said to us, it was just because "they did not" want us to board the flight, until our sherpa helped us and convinced them to let us board. 🙏

Thanks Vishal, the issue wasnt a delay on the flight the issue was they did not want us to take our original flight as we had scheduled so they were making us wait for no official reason.

Could you please let us know which is the arline who gave you toruble while flying Lukla to Kathmandu so that other traveller will be careful in future. I always had great experience in Nepal and I love Nepali people, their culture and food. I feel Nepal is my second home. You both have a safe trip back to home.

I am so happy for what you did. Sometimes airlines do that for their benefits. I got into the same problem when i was flying via turkish airlines. I personally left using that airlines and i am sure i won’t for my whole life. Some experiences are just bad.

Don't take the problem with the airline too personally bro. This is one of the most dangerous airports in the world, mainly due to weather conditions and its location right up against the mountains. Better to always try to have a couple of days up your sleeve when travelling within Nepal as this sort of thing can happen with both buses and planes. I would highly recommend NOT booking a domestic flight back Kathmandu on the day you are leaving the country. The plane service to and from Lukla is like a shuttle service (ie there are planes about every hour or so) and the reliability of the service depends entirely on the weather conditions which are highly unpredictable. I suspect the reason you had a problem is that your booked flight may have been affected by the weather (and that's the weather not just at Lukla or Kathmandu, but anywhere along the flight path) - which can change dramatically very quickly. The airline departures (including Summit Air) are controlled by the airport's air traffic control and if they say the departure time may be delayed because of weather or for what ever reason, then the airlines must follow these instructions, and will try to get you on an earlier (or later) flight when they know the weather will be more stable. You can imagine how frustrating it is also for the airlines and the probably poorly-paid workers at the check-in counter. One of the biggest lessons I've learned while travelling in Nepal since first visiting in 1982 is patience !! If you haven't got patience then expect to be frustrated and disappointed.

Yes, Summit Air is the worst domestic airline. I have only used them once and had a very bad experience with them. Back in 2018, I purchased a ticket from Rara to Nepalgunj. They actually sold more tickets than the available seat and I wasn't allowed to board the plane at the scheduled time. They asked me to wait for the next flight but the next flight didn't happen that day. The next day, I was allowed to board the plane.
The story doesn't end here. They sold me a ticket for Nepalgunj but the plane actually landed at the next city called Surkhet. At first, I (and a few other passengers to Nepalgunj) thought it was a transit for some passengers to get down and others to get in but the air hostess asked us to get down and said it was the destination. I said I have a ticket to Nepalgunj not here. The Air hostess asked me to complain over the counter. When I went to the counter they didn't give me any solution, they said it was a mistake from the Rara ticket counter and I was left stranded. I had to do a taxi from there to reach my destination which cost me more than a flight ticket.
It is a horrible airline, never ever travel with them.
