I love how Trent phrases the cynical feeling of how the whole world seems to work against you in those lines: "The clouds will part and the sky cracks open / And god himself will reach his fucking arm through / Just to push you down /Just to hold you down". The lines make the feeling tangible even though I don't know that feeling personally. You can feel the pain in his voice and lyrics. And damn, man that constant bassline feels like it's literally punching the listener. Also, can't really separate the beautiful, melancholic and haunting piece that is The Frail from The Wretched. Always loved these songs, and The Fragile as a whole. For your next The Downward Spiral listen I'd say The Becoming or I Do Not Want This. Even though they're so emotionally draining, they're goddamn masterpieces. If you want something a bit lighter (only just a bit because most songs in that album are... well, not the easiest to get through) I'd say Piggy, Closer or A Warm Place.
well said my friend.. Trent delivers the emotion through both the lyrics and the music.. gut punching i'd say.. Alrighty.. Will have these songs line up!!
I luv being able to experience nin like its brand new through ur reviews. Ive been a fan of nin for 20 yrs and its nice to hear people still finding it and experiencing it. Please try out the song "and all that could have been". Thank you!
Fun fact: live performances of The Wretched will ALWAYS have The Frail first, however, in very few rare performances, The Frail has been followed by Closer or Eraser... (The two i can think of off the top of my head) 🔥🔥
Just a great song. Thanks for doing the intro too, it hits so much harder after The Frail. More NIN please. And you have a new subscriber, friend, I’m loving these. Peace.
"The Wretched" is one of the highlights of The Fragile. I'm very much on the transitions, and "The Wretched" is followed on the CD by "We're in This Together" and *that* is followed by "The Fragile". It's an incredible sequence.
So glad to see the work of one of my favorite artists being enjoyed this long into time, by so many people, so many cultures, generations, countries. I've been a fan since 1998. Trent Voiced all the Pain I felt, and put it to music that showed how it felt. He could scream on key, knew how to get your body responding to the bass, used repetition for tension and dissonances that are haunting and mesmerizing. Do recommend "The Becoming" from the Downward Spiral Album and "Burn" from the Natural Born Killers' soundtrack. Be aware though, those are VERY angry pieces :)
After discovering The Fragile back in 2009, my life changed. I love music and I’m into any kinds of genre. But The Fragile album will always be in my number one list. NIN fan.
Great video! Your reaction feels very natural and interesting, like I'm hanging out with someone with something interesting to say, and for that I had to sub. This song is one of my favorites and a very uplifting one for me ironically, mostly due to the stuff you mentioned (I have similar opinions). Whenever I feel down I think "Are things not going your way, you had it planned different, it didn't turn out like you wanted? Cry me a river, this is life, this is how it is, it's how you are, *this is what it feels like*" and I get motivated to carry on.
hello, you need to react to the themes of the downward spiral: piggy, heresy, march of the pigs, closer, big man with a gun, a warm place, the becoming, the downward spiral. greetings from Mexico, I hope you read my suggestion, enjoy the songs bye.
The Fragile Even Deeper
"And now you're one of us...the wretched"
I am now a NIN fan for a minimum of 20 Years, and it never get´s boring hearing it.
the way the vocal track distorts/digitizes out at 4:42 always stood out to me as a genius move

Yeah the first 6 songs flow so well it feels like all one song from somewhat damaged to the fragile.

"Now you know, this what it feels like..." really enjoy your reactions. Please consider Bauhaus- In the flat field 🙏
Potions! Trent and MJK (PUSCIFER) COLLABORATION.
Trent Reznor is a producer on par with Rick Reuben, Phil Spector, Dr. Dre, The RZA, and Bob Mould. FACTS.

Hola amigo!! Gracias pero mirar :) Sure do thank you so much for the recommendations!! More NIN coming up!!!❤️
NIN is awesome but don't forget Just One Fix by Ministry. Ministry were Trent's biggest influence.
