Russian mob boss 'Grandpa Hassan' killed in Moscow

  • One of Russia's most notorious organized crime bosses was killed by a sniper in central Moscow on Wednesday afternoon as he was leaving a restaurant after lunch, police said.
    Aslan Usoyan, 75, also known as "Grandpa Hassan," was hit by a single bullet in the chin as he was walking out of the Carriage Row restaurant on Pavarskaya Street. He was taken to the hospital but died en route, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said.
    The sniper also injured a 33-year-old female bystander in the chest and and hip. She was was hospitalized and is in serious condition.
    A Russian newspaper quoted a source in the Investigative Committee as saying the shooter used a VAL assault rifle.
    Six 9mm bullet casings were found in the stairwell between the fifth and sixth floors, as well as a folding chair and a piece of cloth, Investigative Committee spokesman Sergei Stukalov told Interfax news agency.
