It's funny.... I've basically 100%'d this game, all I need to do now is slay the Telethia. I've out in 180 hours.... And I STILL don't fully understand the battle mechanics
Yeah, it's pretty wild. I'm in a similar spot. I'm 150-ish hours in and I'm just starting to care about optimizing my characters' stats. And figuring out what some of them even do. :p
+The Elephant that's about the same for me, i finally god stronger then my skell, i have to fight agaisnt the final boss, but i didn't knew what potential meant
the amount of customization in this game is... sick. mmo's are the only other games that truly give this feel, along with fallout or others. but this game has color and personality ;) thank you for the vids, and I look forward to more. keep it up.
Thank you! Finally, after 105 hours, I know what potential does. Next stop: stability, what the heck I'm doing wrong with my probe placement, and a billion other things I haven't thought to google yet. I love this mechanical onion of a game.
These guides have been very helpful because one of the games biggest flaws is the gathering mechanics. Hopefully the next Xenoblade title will actually record where you exactly find items in some menu option because it doesn't seem to be too difficult of a thing to program in because they already have to assign those drop rates for areas to begin with. There are so many small oversights, but I've still been having a blast with what the game is. Maybe storage problems got in the way because they already filled the disc to it's limits.
+Henny Zhi the original gave about the same info too, I just ride my skell in this game around to find the item orbs I am looking for. Which makes it a step up from Xenoblade Chronicles because you had to run, not ride.
TorchicEX It just seems like an odd thing to not modernize for the sake of a fantasy/sci-fi world. The items are already represented by abstract balls of light, so they are already pushing out the suspension of disbelief but forcing the player to associate certain flowers to areas where they cant even see them just keeps telling them their playing a game and doing busy work. It's why healing is automatic after a battle. It would detract from the world if I was constantly taking care of characters rather than being immersed as if I was one of the characters in my party.
Didn't know it affected soul voice frequency, so that's why my soul action has been coming more often than my auto-attacks...Thank you for explaining that.
This video helped me out a lot. I didn't even know what Potential did when I beat the Final Boss. I feel like not a lot gets explained in the game, which is a detriment.
As far as I am aware Potential doesn't affect how often Soul Voices trigger but it does effect how much health you get for getting a good or perfect with one. Last I checked Morale effects the trigger rate of Soul Voices, similar to Xenoblade Chronicles. Of Course Morale does other things too but that is just one of the things I am aware it does.
Man I wish the game actually told you what potential did. I've been entirely outright ignoring that stat to the point that I thought Candid and Credible was kind of a silly AM. I thought maybe it was a luck stat and increased crit chance, but I wasn't too worried about crit. I literally JUST assumed it was this game's "Luck" and it's rare for luck to be powerful. Luckily I'm actually only barely further along in the game than this video's example clips come from, so I still have a chance to use potential up in its early stages to push me into the late game. :P
+MrServantRider Awesome, glad to help! I thought that too. I was like "What is this? Who cares?" and saw some stuff about it. Now I'm decked out in Candid and Credible gear, heh.
lazar cupic Nobody reads game manuals any more. :P However I have been told this before and it sure makes you feel silly when you've already beaten the game and then find out about the manual. At least that's what happened for me.
+Pikachu Thirteen Yes, they can get rough even early in the story! Something I learned from the original Xenoblade Chronicles and still applicable here is to single-target down enemies whenever there's a group. Makes a lot of stuff much more manageable!
As one who's studied builds (and has gotten a level 25 to do 5,000+ damage with a photo saber) and has played this game for around 350 hours, I can say that potential is a viable way to go about a build, but is not the best by any means. you'll typically see blossom dance builds with high potential, but there are a lot more beneficial auguments and art combos that are more important than potential. you can easily make a build and beat the game without worrying about potential. I currently do around 100k per hit in overdrive (which isn't much all things considered) with a potential stat at a measly 57. It does help, but is not needed in any way
+Aster Guarionex Awesome! I have no idea why they made Potential so good for that(Some Japanese players have exploited this to the max for lolz and almost infinite Overdrives), but I have found it to be pretty great on Galactic Knight. Even though I'm a beam focus, the extra heal and Soul Voice effects are nice!
I really don't understand when people complain about powerful stuff being OP... heck!! I need as much potential/OP stuff/help I can get! It makes the game enjoyable for me. Great video! 😃
Actually, I'm pretty sure the first fast travel locations are Starfall Basin (where Elma finds the player's stasis pod) and Shadow Rise (directly outside of Starfall Basin), but the West Gate Plains are the third if you're following the story instead of goofing off and/or grinding. Either way, TP arts can get extremely busted extremely fast with a good Aura like Full Specs and some Potential Up and Potential Boost augments.
It's funny coming back to this after completing Xenoblade 2, and hearing about how Xenoblade X "nerfed" agility. Cause in Xenobalde 2, Agility is awesome again. Looking forward to actually playing this now, and enjoying it for what is was, now that Xenoblade 2 satisfied my itch of wanting a proper sequel to Xenoblade 1.
I really suggest you make markers for your guide, Like this What is Potential? 00:00 Why is it important? 2:19 How to get Potential 3:28 Materials Location for Potential Augments 4:06 Mining Locations for Potential Augments 5:50 Awesome video! I'm just suggesting that you can add markers to videos like this. Guides like the beginner guide doesn't need one, but I think the pet guide will need markers for each. My favorite is the Rock Cavern guide of yours. Love your Let's Play of XCX too. I'm new to your channel, so I think I'm going to enjoy your channel very much!
The only problem I have with the Blast Fencer line is the abysmal TP gain it has. It's an awesome class for a lot of reasons, but it's TP gain is terrible. Of course, combining Zero Lapse with TP Gain up augments remedy that just fine.
What I'm trying to figure out is how potential effects certain buff arts that don't do heals, such as Elma's Ghost Factory. Not sure if it increases the duration, makes a better version of Decoy, or just nothing, which would seem to be the most probably answer in this case.
+TheHakinator Same here. I need to do more testing and have much more Potential to see how it affects that kind of thing. There's a Galactic Knight art that buffs your other melee arts, I'd love to see if Potential increased that buff. It seems to good to be true, so I've been of your opinion, but I could be very very wrong. It'd be really cool if it buffed the duration of Decoy or made a better one.
So what would be more important? Potential or Evasion? I like the benefits of Potential, but I'm often so focused on the fights I tend to miss the prompt for them. I have also read that having high Evasion is also beneficial since it allows you to avoid damage.
+Suraj Mistry Honestly? I think it's a preference thing. I would say to get both absolutely, investing in Potential as a secondary stat. Potential feels to me like a broken damage thing you can do, but you can't do much damage while dead. I do know that late-late game you can oneshot some things with Potential, but I think in the interim both are good. Also, the fact that you miss the prompts can damage it as a stat a bit, but it still does buff your TP skills' effectiveness! So I'd say it depends on what your arts setup looks like.
+Fayorei RPGMmag adding on to this, it really depends on what build you use. A lot of endgame overdrive builds rely on the art Ghost Walker which at max level makes you invincible for 6 attacks. Since in overdrive you can use this art quite a bit you're practically invincible. Only a few enemies that have multi-hit attacks can kill you. You also have reflect builds which can stop everything but are very time consuming to make. All in all though, in early and mid-game evasion is something that you want and is very useful. But it gets out-shined in post game and isn't needed anymore.
Indeed! I do recommend the guide, even if some of the collectible stuff is plain wrong about spawn conditions. It is so nice! And people have scanned the maps as well.:)
I got one of my Skells optimized for Potential and it's in Overdrive almost all the time, which is great, but she stops using both her SuperWeapons while in Overdrive which isn't so great. The other two Skells, one optimized for melee and one for ranged, don't have this problem while in Overdrive, they use all their SuperWeapons just fine. IDK WTF is going on...
Fayorei RPGMmag I have Elma piloting the Potential build Lailah, but it's the same no matter the pilot or Superweapons, seems to be something weird about the Lailah itself.
+Razuki Since TP gets replaced by BP, Potential shines on Skells in Overdrive mode. Potential boosts damage of everything while in Overdrive in a Skell.
+Hadi Hakam Such a shame they didn't do more with this. Light and medium armor can be upgraded more times, but start with lower attributes to balance this. And Heavy Gear is more susceptible to Gravity Damage, which is a damage type that doesn't show up too often. Use whatever has the best stats!
People thought that it made you go into "cockpit mode" more often, but testing has shown it doesn't. Honestly I think it's only useful for soul voices in skells.
A lot of people have noticed that cockpit mode is not affected by Potential, at least to any massive degree. Soul Voices, yes. Especially healing. And extending Overdrive. There may be a Potential soft cap for Overdrive extension, but I'd have to do testing for that. I may just have to do that in the future.
TP Arts are extremely powerful and give you tons of damage/healing depending on their function. Most of them are Auras with sick side effects, while TP attack Arts can be abused to destroy anything in your path.
dlfon99 I mean, they're not mandatory to use if you're not aiming to go for an end-game build to break the game, but they make life easier. You should check them out sometime. Maybe we could play together so you can see the build I use in action and decide if its worth it using them or not.
+SonJazrin Mainly, I checked around to find answers to what I needed when I got lost, and made my first video guide based on that. Nowadays, I mainly find what I need from my experiences, the Prima Guide, or doing research on the net for the more complex things!
+The Elephant Over 100 hour in and I'm still not making augments or using L's shop to put slots on my gear. :P
+Alexander Kuroyami same lol how did I beat the story?
Yassin H Its always Elma's insane evasion that keeps me alive. Sponge tanking seems to become less effective the further you get into the game.
+The Elephant that's about the same for me, i finally god stronger then my skell, i have to fight agaisnt the final boss, but i didn't knew what potential meant
the amount of customization in this game is... sick. mmo's are the only other games that truly give this feel, along with fallout or others. but this game has color and personality ;)
thank you for the vids, and I look forward to more. keep it up.
+Grant Beard Yeah, this game is really my speed in terms of atmosphere and whatnot! Thanks for watching, glad you are liking the game!
Oh look a wild beard appeared
Get ready for your channel to blow up again we’re so back
Thank you!
Finally, after 105 hours, I know what potential does. Next stop: stability, what the heck I'm doing wrong with my probe placement, and a billion other things I haven't thought to google yet. I love this mechanical onion of a game.
Okay. I've watched this 4 times and I understand now. LETS DO THIS
+Robboy2235 MIRA JENKINS
lol
god thus game is soo complex......... AND I LOVE IT, i dont like feeling like i know everything
+Nick “Nickfire47” Thompson Ugh, same here to a bit. Though, I find learning fun and I am definitely always doing it with this game!
Why you hate to know?
Just found out you make a lot of guides for XCX and I thank you so much plus you really have a gift for teaching and explaining 👌🏼
This is true
These guides have been very helpful because one of the games biggest flaws is the gathering mechanics. Hopefully the next Xenoblade title will actually record where you exactly find items in some menu option because it doesn't seem to be too difficult of a thing to program in because they already have to assign those drop rates for areas to begin with. There are so many small oversights, but I've still been having a blast with what the game is. Maybe storage problems got in the way because they already filled the disc to it's limits.
+Henny Zhi OH GOD YES, the Gathering Missions are the WORST in this game. Seriously dunno why they dropped the ball so bad on this....
+Henny Zhi I agree, the only thing the game has to combat this is the reward tickets system and that only applies to enemy drops.
It's why healing is automatic after a battle. It would detract from the world if I was constantly taking care of characters rather than being immersed as if I was one of the characters in my party.
You can use Google.
Super helpful. Potential is just such a vague word compared to stats like attack or hp which explain themselves just by the name.
My god she put a map on the video... No one else seems to do this. T.T
Didn't know it affected soul voice frequency, so that's why my soul action has been coming more often than my auto-attacks...Thank you for explaining that.
+Craig DelliCarpini Yeah, seems so! It's really nice to have since Soul Voice buffs pretty much anything you do an amazing amount.:D
good video, always wondered why i was stacking 5 potential xx mods or native and running around maxing out damage at 9,999,999.
Thank you so much for all the effort you put in this guides
+Ryu Ayuku Thanks!
Excellent explanation. I can't believe I was running around without using the AM terminal to upgrade by Battle Traits.
Love your music selection you made for your guides. Re.Arr:X is amazing!
+MeekMeek93 YES. It's my favorite track from the OST!:D
+Fayorei RPGMmag Requiem is my favorite.
I literally sold all my fleecy fur before I watched this...
+tgdelta Noooooo! Well, they are a pretty common drop from those Suids at least!
Hey thanks alot I'm just beginning and it been a while playing a game like this, and was going crazy figuring things out on my own helps a ton
Awesome! Glad to still see people playing X!
This video helped me out a lot. I didn't even know what Potential did when I beat the Final Boss. I feel like not a lot gets explained in the game, which is a detriment.
can't ask for a better explanation
You rocked this tutorial... way to kick ass!
+Alex Davila Thank you!
Thanks! Good tips, good explanations, and good music!
+lastfirstborn2 Thanks! Re:ARR X is da best.
This video was very helpful! Thanks for the tips!!
+Nathaniel J Awesome, glad to help! And yay, Earthbound love!
Most of the people who can solo high level tyrants in ground are focusing potential augments in their gear.
Indeed. That's what I've seen the most of.
A better way to farm fleecy fur is to kill Grassland Ovis. There are tons of them right outside the East Gate and they're at level 6 to 8.
+MrTweej Awesome! Always love when people have even more tips.:D
Thanks for thoses tips. :3
And Xeno X music is sooo good :D !
+Joshuas 123 No prob! I also must say- your icon is VERY COOL!
Fayorei RPGMmag
Yeah i love The nopons ^w^.

The manual covers everything, people just dont take the time to check
lazar cupic Nobody reads game manuals any more. :P
However I have been told this before and it sure makes you feel silly when you've already beaten the game and then find out about the manual. At least that's what happened for me.
True on both counts! Some stuff isn't in the manual, but it is pretty massive. Hopefully, the videos help a tiny bit.:)
Thank you so much for explaining this!
Thank. Freaking. Christ for that video, now some fights won't be nearly as cruel to me...though still pretty hard...
+Pikachu Thirteen Yes, they can get rough even early in the story! Something I learned from the original Xenoblade Chronicles and still applicable here is to single-target down enemies whenever there's a group. Makes a lot of stuff much more manageable!

Very true! Thanks for droppin' some experienced knowledge!
mind = blown. brb gonna craft some potential up augs
+masterWhO That's how I felt, too! I was wondering what it was, and did some digging. Potential all day, every day.
Clear and concise. Thank you.
Welp, time to make myself a Mastermind Potential set and see how that goes.
+Norbles Xarelon Let me know how it works out! I'm a Galactic Knight, but I do plan on branching out and experimenting with a lot of stuff.
Oooh, I maxed duelist, and there are quite a few longsword TP arts. One of them is doing quite a lot of damage, which I found surprising.
I watched this, and I realized Potential isn't really for me. The build I have uses *no* TP arts. (Except for Auras.)
Potential is energy per unit mass/charge, guys. It's not that hard./s
Right? Pfft
I really don't understand when people complain about powerful stuff being OP... heck!! I need as much potential/OP stuff/help I can get! It makes the game enjoyable for me. Great video! 😃

+TheChilian TrasHers \o/ Glad to help!
I'm sure she's speaking English but I didn't understand. This game has so much content in it it just hurts my brain.
So what would be more important? Potential or Evasion? I like the benefits of Potential, but I'm often so focused on the fights I tend to miss the prompt for them. I have also read that having high Evasion is also beneficial since it allows you to avoid damage.

80 hours in. I never built augments for my gear! I keep holding back because I want to install them on better gear.
You can remove them and there are tons
+TheHornet79 Mm, I didn't notice for a bit. I can totally see people missing em and such! But as mentioned, they are movable.
Nice video, but every time I here "Xeh" I die a little inside. I don't blame you or mean to attack you, it's a very common thing.
Xeh
Anyone know what class she was using? The damn saber sword and its arts look awesome.
Well. . . Potential helps you rack up damage with TP Based attacks.
Thanks. :)
i give up up on building this
Thank you, and where can I get those maps?
+BetterThanVegas You're welcome! These maps are ones I modified from the Prima Game Guide. It is pretty good!
Glad I bought one then.
+lordkibagami Nice! That seems to be the most common use of it, for that wondrous Overdrive. Is the person in question an NPC?
Fayorei RPGMmag I have Elma piloting the Potential build Lailah, but it's the same no matter the pilot or Superweapons, seems to be something weird about the Lailah itself.
That is super odd! My initial theory was that it was the NPC-piloting part of the equation, but considering that it definitely might be the Lailah.
Is it overpowered? Yes. Are we ok with that? Fuck yes.
How do you level up your battle arts and skills?
So... what does potential actually do with your skell? Since there are no tp arts there i mean
+Razuki Since TP gets replaced by BP, Potential shines on Skells in Overdrive mode. Potential boosts damage of everything while in Overdrive in a Skell.
I need some potential augments. :|
+Dylan Pierce Fleeeeeccccey Furrrrr
Thanks. Question: What's "stability"?
is there a benefit for light gear
***** so it is just useless
***** so my test was correct. Thank you
+Hadi Hakam Such a shame they didn't do more with this. Light and medium armor can be upgraded more times, but start with lower attributes to balance this. And Heavy Gear is more susceptible to Gravity Damage, which is a damage type that doesn't show up too often. Use whatever has the best stats!
+Fayorei RPGMmag That is why sakuraba is the 2nd best cheap and strong
how to get orange gears for beginner?
im so confuse about gears grade and how to get them
WHAT DOES IT ME MORTY WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN
can you beat the story with photon/dual guns
Ok but what does it do to Skells?
People thought that it made you go into "cockpit mode" more often, but testing has shown it doesn't.
Honestly I think it's only useful for soul voices in skells.
A lot of people have noticed that cockpit mode is not affected by Potential, at least to any massive degree.
Soul Voices, yes. Especially healing. And extending Overdrive. There may be a Potential soft cap for Overdrive extension, but I'd have to do testing for that. I may just have to do that in the future.
Omg you are awesome
I actively avoid TP arts.
Is that bad?
TP Arts are extremely powerful and give you tons of damage/healing depending on their function. Most of them are Auras with sick side effects, while TP attack Arts can be abused to destroy anything in your path.

whaaaaaat???? I'm soooo doing this lol
+Got2LoveLife It's a pretty nice stat!~ Enjoy!
Fayorei RPGMmag thank youuuuuu!!!! I havent gotten a chance to as yet. Buts it's been on my mind constantly lol.
Quite excited
geolibrium is overpowered btw...
I have to ask, where did you get this information? The game tells you nothing.
