I think what I like about this channel the most is it's still like youtube was before all the corporate backed shills started flooding the site. Your review tells it like it is not trying to sell shit not hyping a product.
Bought this tool yesterday for 49.99 $ Produced two different sized hoops for a project right out of the gate roller paid for itself first use. Key to perfect circles is start out with the end of the bar half on the adjust roller with little pressure and gradually increase, no need for extra material, once its rolled weld it up and run it back through.
Hey Allen when you find your flat spot on the ring simply open your vice to a good width so it centers the flat and tap it with a hammer till it rounds out.
I have a older Harbor Freight plasma cutter and welder, they work great. The newer stuff I wouldn’t touch. If my welder ever fails I’d buy an American made welder. That welder of yours seems really smooth.
It cold all over we have been fighting below zero temps the last few days here in Iowa this cold blast sure went south. Great video my son been looking at this and ask me about it I guess I will have to have watch and learn from your video. Keep up the great video's
Awesome! Love the octagon grills..and you got serious metalworking skills!I do some metal work but nowhere near up to your level.. I've had a few close calls with those angle grinders - so every once and a while especially just before a job I go to Google and type in "angle grinder accident" and the click "images" as the search type. A quick scan of the resulting gruesome photos really sets my mind straight and gets me ready to go out in the shop and tackle the job! Like you I still got both eyes, my whole nose and all ten fingers so the strategy is working so far..
Thank you for your video and honesty. I watched another person’s video and they didn’t like HF roller tool. Could you recommend a hobbyist metal working book? I’d like to learn how to design.
I've had one of these for a few years, works good f or small stuff, must keep it pushed. The only issue I've had was the plastic knob broke, after the second I made a metal one. It was my fault they broke, good little tool to have
I love your videos and your channel. You make some beautiful fire pits and smokers. Nice tool review also. Ease keep up the good work and the great videos. Some more in depth close up shots would be great too!
Great video Allen, I have that same roller and I'm satisfied with mine as well... would love to see you build a wood burning stove for your shop... seen some made from car rims welded together that were impressive. Keep up the good videos Allen! T
AS for making rings out of solid rod ,I got a cut off drops from a sign pole company .The drops are from 8 inch pipe , 12 inch pipe ,36 inch pipe ,48 inch pipe and 72 inch pipe . They are only 2 - 6 inches wide .They gave them to me for nothing . They also gave me a cart load of small 1 inch thick blocks drilled the proper size hole in the block weld them to the ring . Lace slick rod or rebar through it and weld . Takes minutes to make the rod ring and are perfect every time. Took two ours to make 8 different size ring makers and each one has 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch size laces need a new size drill holes into some more blocks weld them on .
I think the round stock just has different stresses built up in the material. I hear a tip long ago from machinists that the metal left out in the parking lot hot sun had some stress relieved just from that. Not sure if true.
Right on right ouwn! I've been contemplating that little ring roller or saving up for a slip role. BUT THEN I got to thinkin, that pipe roller at HF for $180 (before coupon) looks pretty solid and you can take the tube dies out and put in some flat roller dies! Maybe even with a channel in them for ring rollin flat stock on edge! Hell for less than 200 pesos that would be damn well worth it! Your thoughts? Thanks! great, simple and to the point video.
Wonder if you could power the roller with an impact wrench or a variable speed heavy duty drill. Maybe put a foot operation switch/pedal and have both hands free to hold stock. Thanks for great videos.
I have both this and the larger rollers from HF, this one isn't strong enough to be powered like the other. The bigger model I modified using a kit from Swag Off Road with a pipe threading tool and that even f flexes. Good tool though.
I have one of these for a few years and I've tried to flip it to remove the twist, depending on the steel I've had mixed results. Usually I use a pair of big adjustable wrenches and with a few tweaks it's straight.
That handle is excellent, I agree on the round stock-I have a different rolling machine but its the same deal with round stock, mines a bit easier as it rolls horizontal as well so bit easier to keep roundstock in line. Agree again on creeping up the pressure is the way to go, for doing more than one ring I run first ring thru on low pressure, then second etc on same setting, creep up the pressure again for ring one, then run ring two etc thru, if that makes sense, is that how you advise doing it? All the best for the new year.
Most welding and tool forums have a couple of sticky threads. Harbor Freight Tools that suck and Harbor Freight tools that don't suck. I have one of these and feel that it falls in the middle, it kinda sucks. Mine is much worse than yours but I'm a hobbiest so time is not money to me and I can still use it. Great for rolling steel pig tails.
Man I like those pit's your building!! Good work, and some really good craftsmanship!! I have gon to several harbor freight stores and can't find one of those rollers, and when you ask about them ya get a deer in the headlight look. Are they a special order item?
Lowe's is OK. tried their carbide tooth metal cutting blade. dam thing only lasted 20 cuts. paid close to 90 bucks for that blade and I was not happy. Lowe's took it back! have been buying all my appliances there for the past 10 yrs. anything on the showroom floor is usually in stock. 5 yr. warranties are a hundred bucks. delivery and removal of old appliance is free. 10 percent discount for military or former military. what is not to love
I subscribed. And I hit the notifications bell. First youtube video I have seen where there isn't a beginning begging sequence begging you to subscribe and hit the bell. Great channel. Makes we want to break out my plasma cutter and make something.
This guy is TOP NOTCH very helpful and speaks out loud on what he is thinking,so much to learn from Allen.THANK YOU

I have the same one, after weld and grind I run it thru again to fix that flat spot
Good idea. Sometimes i cut the material longer and then cut off the flat spots after I roll it.
@@Metzger23 I have one I run it through few times after I grind the weld you can pretty much get almost exact circle
@@KUGW I haven't thought of doing it that way. I will try it.

Enjoy your videos very much, especially the welding. Admire your fire pits and BBQs - really nice. Good demo of the roller. Thanks!

You're a talented fabricator.

I like it. It gets the job done!
Once u have tack it put it back in the roller and run it round a few times that will take the flat spot out of it

Nice review brother and I love that fire pit you built!

First let me say I have never used one. Having said that. If you flipped the stock with each roll would it counteract the twist? Just a thought
I have one of these for a few years and I've tried to flip it to remove the twist, depending on the steel I've had mixed results. Usually I use a pair of big adjustable wrenches and with a few tweaks it's straight.
Great job Allen, Happy New Year!
Great job keep up the good work you are a great artist
Very Nice work.. A Master Craftsman. .
Cool fire pits! Nice work
Nice review Allen thanks.
Just one question, not about the ring roller. How did you roll that pipe on that fire pit? Just wondering
Great review! Thank you
when rolling flip end for end every 3 rolls and will help with your flat spot and with round stalk
Can ya roll 1/4 × 1-1/2 if you go a little at a time? I just bought one from harbor freight and a bender.

I like the Dewalt tools when they work, but yeah I've had a bit of hit and miss with them myself.
Happy New Year, Allen.

That's a nice fire pit
Build yourself a wood stove! I’d like to see that for sure dude!

I subscribed. And I hit the notifications bell. First youtube video I have seen where there isn't a beginning begging sequence begging you to subscribe and hit the bell. Great channel. Makes we want to break out my plasma cutter and make something.
If I need a 12 inch ring how long of a piece do I need
37 3/4"
Cory Driver 12x3.14159=37.69 inches
I would add 3 inches each side and cut them off after forming
Lol funny you said don’t look at all this crap. I see gold. Cool review.
Can you get away with rolling 1 1/2"×1/8"
Yea, I’ve rolled 1.5” and 2” with it, it eventually wears it out though, I got probably around 150 rings before I had to replace it
How did you bend the pipe on the fire pit legs
nice common sense video . I was thinking of buying one.
Keep warm
WTG Bro, 👍
All of the drops are 3/8 inch thick
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah but some people what a Cadillac but they want to pay for a Hyundai.lol
Boy....thats some vocal accent.
