I will say comics Riri didn't get off to the best start either. Having her take over Iron Man's books for a while probably didn't help (it lead to a misconception that she was meant to be the new Iron Man, when she wasn't). Not helping that that a lot of traits that were meant to be character flaws, just made her come across as unlikable (although to be fair a lot of the characters louder critics didn't seem to realize that they were meant to be flaws).

As you no doubt know, Marvel and DC really screwed up in the 80s and 90s when they concentrated too much on appealing to adult collectors and not enough on picking up child readers. Those children read manga instead of comic books, because manga has plenty of books intended specifically for boy and/or girls. Those kids reading manga grew up to be adults reading manga, and now American comic books are in a real pickle. Kamala Khan, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), and Moon Girl were all important because they got girls to read comic books. Those girls were potential future comic book-reading adults. Kamala Khan and Moon Girl in particular attracted girls of color. So what do you think happens when these young girls seek out places on the Interent where they can talk about the comic book characters they are getting excited about? How do you think their parents react when they see all of this naked racism and misogyny in every nerd community? We should be focusing on making nerd spaces safe for little girls (especially girls of color) to talk to others about whatever comic book they like, and instead we've created a hostile environment guaranteed to either chase them away, or convince their parents to forbid them from going there. And every time DC tries to reach out to a particular younger demographic, these morons swoop in and chase the new interested parties away. There was a property involving the daughter of Starfire. Granted, the portrayal of Starfire as a mom was a bit off-putting to long-time fans, but a lady comic book content creator explained that they were trying to appeal to a particular group of young women that like a certain kind of novel, hence the peculiarities of this story. Again, the outrage merchants went into full attack mode, so if those books succeeded in bringing in fans of that particular kind of novel, the fake fans no doubt chased them away. They are killing the industry just to get a few extra views on their RUclips videos, but if they drive Marvel and DC out of business, they aren't going to be able to make ANY new videos to milk this particular cow? We need to do a better job of driving these fake fans out of nerd spaces.
To be fair, the comic book industry tanked itself. When it started trying to appeal to everyone it started appealing to practically nobody and the sales figures reflect this.

I’m not all that familiar with comics but even I know that saying Iron Heart is replacing a legacy character is like me saying my dog is replacing my canine.
I will say comics Riri didn't get off to the best start either. Having her take over Iron Man's books for a while probably didn't help (it lead to a misconception that she was meant to be the new Iron Man, when she wasn't). Not helping that that a lot of traits that were meant to be character flaws, just made her come across as unlikable (although to be fair a lot of the characters louder critics didn't seem to realize that they were meant to be flaws).

Not only am I getting sick of these fake fans polluting every nerd space on the Internet, but they are causing real harm to the comic book industry, a medium that I have a lot of fondness for.
As you no doubt know, Marvel and DC really screwed up in the 80s and 90s when they concentrated too much on appealing to adult collectors and not enough on picking up child readers. Those children read manga instead of comic books, because manga has plenty of books intended specifically for boy and/or girls. Those kids reading manga grew up to be adults reading manga, and now American comic books are in a real pickle.
Kamala Khan, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), and Moon Girl were all important because they got girls to read comic books. Those girls were potential future comic book-reading adults. Kamala Khan and Moon Girl in particular attracted girls of color.
So what do you think happens when these young girls seek out places on the Interent where they can talk about the comic book characters they are getting excited about? How do you think their parents react when they see all of this naked racism and misogyny in every nerd community?
We should be focusing on making nerd spaces safe for little girls (especially girls of color) to talk to others about whatever comic book they like, and instead we've created a hostile environment guaranteed to either chase them away, or convince their parents to forbid them from going there.
And every time DC tries to reach out to a particular younger demographic, these morons swoop in and chase the new interested parties away. There was a property involving the daughter of Starfire. Granted, the portrayal of Starfire as a mom was a bit off-putting to long-time fans, but a lady comic book content creator explained that they were trying to appeal to a particular group of young women that like a certain kind of novel, hence the peculiarities of this story.
Again, the outrage merchants went into full attack mode, so if those books succeeded in bringing in fans of that particular kind of novel, the fake fans no doubt chased them away.
They are killing the industry just to get a few extra views on their RUclips videos, but if they drive Marvel and DC out of business, they aren't going to be able to make ANY new videos to milk this particular cow?
We need to do a better job of driving these fake fans out of nerd spaces.
To be fair, the comic book industry tanked itself. When it started trying to appeal to everyone it started appealing to practically nobody and the sales figures reflect this.
I love how they act as if Carol becoming Captain Marvel is a huge insult to Mar-Vell; as if he hadn't been dead for 30 years when she took up the mantle, and as if she wasn't a much more popular and well liked character than Mar-Vell ever was. Also Marvel is very much a business, if they thought a character wasn't marketable, they wouldn't be pushing them; there is a reason why they haven't made a Stilt-Man show or a Doctor Druid movie. Btw I talked to my friend who runs a comic book store with his family, going back 50 years; and they all agreed that Carol is the far more popular character, not just from talking to people, but by comic sales.

I have to come clean. I used to be a part of the Anti-woke side of youtube because I was too caught up on focusing on the bad side of woke culture without even looking at the bigger picture. Until I realized that the Anti-woke culture is much more flawed than I thought, not to mention toxic. At this point, I really feel like I need a break on the internet.
I feel like Birdman's anti-grifter content is more hostile and venomous than most of the stuff put out by the "grifters." Someone like The Drinker is mostly trying to make his audience laugh. Birdman just gets angrier and angrier because he genuinely hates the people he's talking about.

On a Friday night tights Halloween stream Gary wore a Sam Wilson Captain America costume, with an Afro, and this year Halloween. Gary wore a Mr Terrific costume with an Afro and the T on his face. Definitely not racist.
This is a clear example of why the birdman is no grifter. Calling out real grifting and promoting honesty is respectable. Now if you'll excuse me, imma go read some more comic books.
