We did this selection for UIL and we got 1s and best in class. It's an extremely layered piece, but when it's being performed it's so beautiful, energetic and expressive.
Back in 1989, I was in High School and played trombone with F attachment. We played this whole piece at Concert Band Competition and we didnt even place as our band wasnt that great. Our band director left and they hired another band director. To show us that we could achieve whatever we put our minds to we played this piece again the following year and got all superior ratings.
I love movements one and three. Two gives me bad memories and I don't really care for the style. But really, I'll never forgive the senior flautists that were rude to me and my fellow freshmen just because we didn't perform to their egotistical standards. I always dreaded movement two because of them but at least movement three helped cheer me up. Now that I'm a junior in college, it's nice to return to old pieces I used to play. Too bad the trauma still lingers.
Gosh I missed the 2nd part of the piece, for me since I’m a trombone although the other parts may be good, for me the part where trombones enter in the middle are where the ballade starts to appear(2:46) even if it’s background part I love that ballade escalation
I’m a third trumpet in my band and I’m in the seventh grade this is very confusing right now because my band teacher hasn’t taught us what half of the stuff on this sheet is lol

I am playing this right now in my band. I am crazy about the third movement and the sound of it
I hate the flute part for the second movement
Haha same y’all
John Ackerman I know it is so good
The second movement is not good though. But I like how you can actually hear woodwinds
Ikr!
Movement 2 - 1:29
Movement 3 - 3:52
The hero we need but don't deserve!
i think the second piece is so beautiful . i had the little french horn solo
We played this at band camp and I did the french horn part too. The best part
Sorry but second movement is nothing compared to 3rd
@@almondswalnuts3278 I'm sorry but your opinion is incorrect
SteveNathn I’m sorry but who asked for yours?

:D
Honestly, I played this about 2 months ago and I still think the 3rd movement sounds like the pirates of the Caribbean theme song
that's prob cuz both songs are in 6/8 time and in the key of d minor (although you could argue that pirates of the Caribbean is in 12/8)
I thought the same thing lol and we played it for Christmas i was like alrighty then
Same here
The first movement might be my favorite band piece of all time. It's so memorable.
As a Tuba player, this has been the most delightful song to play so far.
when ur a French horn so u end up as the star of the show for over 1/3 of the song

We started this piece right after Christmas break, and sadly because of COVID, we never got the chance to perform this and many other pieces.
I really love this song, it's a shame I wasn't able to play it at a concert before I moved schools.

I absolutely love the final movement of this piece although I can't play it that well.
had to play this for county band. loved it. play trombome
We played this for MPA last year and I love the 1st and 2nd movement

Hey, big Hero 6 ???? Nothing Arranged ?
this song is so good that it is sad to have no musical arrangement
I'm playing this in band
I played this in both high school and college band
Playing this for freshman band, love the second act tbh
Two words about the second movement: Polar Express
Hey can you do
A Walk In The Morning Sun - Pierre La Plante
Flying Tigers - David Shaffer
Three Czech Folk Songs - Johnny Vinson
why is everyone flexing about their solos
During the first movement there is a part that sounds like the Gillian Island’s theme song
I am playing it for my band first trumpet as a freshman😬
E sempre bom vim aqui e escutar Boas músicas. . Saudações músicas do Brasil
Eu lembro quando eu toquei essa musica na minha banda à mais de 2 anos atrás.
Eu mal conseguia tocar as ligaduras do segundo ato na minha flauta!
If you like the 3rd movt. then you should check out the John Adams theme song. I sounds a lot like it!
Wow our band is changing this so much flutes, horn and (me) saxes are the main parts in ours sounds much lighter
2nd movement percussion is so hard frfr
frrr
Btw, the place name is pronounced, "Gluster," not "Glow-chester." It's an old name.
Me and my pals always called it glucose

Maag pls we can’t play this we’re gona die
The second mvt. is the one most all band directors avoid at UIL because to be successful with it , the group needs a horn section that performs.
Got a superior playing this at concert band MPA
We’re are the bass clarinets
138 k views, didn’t remember that I commented on this video twice.
1:29 3:52
The third movement is the best
