Simply put, Orthodoxy is different from what a lot of people are used to. It's the realest thing, it's the way it should be. It can be confusing to the casual onlooker. Maybe there is a way that you can demonstrate/explain the breakdown of a Lituragy for your folks.

+mertehman123 I can't tell you what your parents specific prejudices are, but it's likely that they stem from being Protestant. I was once a Protestant (Baptist) and was raised thinking some pretty false things about what salvation was, and how God intended us to receive it. Almost 20 years ago, after overcoming these prejudices, I became (Roman) Catholic. The false beliefs that many Protestants have about the Catholics, they would also have about the Orthodox (except those dealing with the Pope). Many Protestants believe that Catholics and Orthodox worship (adore) the Blessed Virgin Mary (more commonly referred to as the Theotokos in Eastern parlance; Theotokos means "God-bearer") and of course we do not. We venerate her as the greatest of saints and as Christ's holy mother.
Protestants cannot understand the seven Sacraments, as they only have one or two, depending on their theology. Christ founded a single undivided catholic (universal) Church. This Church has unfortunately been split through schisms into the Catholic Church (Rome), Eastern Orthodox Churches (Constantinople), Oriental Orthodox Churches (Alexandria), and the Assyrian Church of the East (Antioch, I think). As a Catholic, I believe that Christ's Church subsists in the Catholic Church in communion with the Pope of Rome. Understandably, the other Churches disagree and each sees their own communion as the true remnant of Christ's Church.
However, all agree (as far as I know; Catholics certainly believe) that each of these sister Churches retains true Holy Orders and Apostolic Succession and a true Eucharist. In other words, all of these Churches have all seven Sacraments. We should pray that the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth so that we may reconcile our differences without compromising on truth, so that the Undivided Church may be reunited "that they may all be one".
May God bless you and keep you. I pray that you will be able to enter Christ's Church and receive His Sacraments. Also, pray for your parents. They love you and want what they believe is best I'm sure, but they may not know what is indeed best. The Holy Spirit can lead them also to His Truth, but much prayer may be needed.

Undeniably beautiful ( I am not a Christian, anyway)
