I got an rtx 2060 and a ryzen 5 3600 and bought the quest 2 and i i couldnt even load the cockpit in real time it would just be black everywhere besides one spot and getting a few fps lmao
Not really, but the 4090 is on the way. Even my 3080ti cant push the frames/fidelity I want with my Index, especially when trying to play flat-to-VR mods like Resident Evil games and Valheim. Also other games I enjoy like No Mans Sky and Elite Dangerous also struggle with a 3080ti at higher settings. Im super excited for the 4090. I think its going to finally deliver the VR Ive been craving for 6 years since I got my first HMD.
4090 with i7 12k with reverb g2 , just upgraded the gpu from a 3080 and it is nice to to max everygame out ie racing sims in vr dcs still bit trickier and on msfs it is nice waiting on the crystal for an upgrade of the headset as i would really like that extra clarity. and i recently bought a ATOMIC A3 MOTION sim. it also has transducers under the seat and wow steve if you want cheap really good immersion get transducers and an amp ie a butkicker but a lot cheaper bang for buck on immersion you wont beat that :)
4090 on a 5800x with ddr4 3600mhz ram, pimax 8kx. I literally cannot complain. also, rip your openxr setting guides. I had to find right combination for settings and openxr became useless, apart from FFR settings.
12900KF and 3090 both watercooled. I'm pushing the visuals and feel the VR perfomance is borderline acceptable but not quite there yet. 4K 2D with all @ultra is flawless though. So I have ordered my 4090 and will replace the 3090 for the sake of the extra performance to place my VR experience where I want it.
I've been running a 3080 and a valve index. I play a variety of VR titles and this year I got a Pico 4 to experience wireless VR. I'm really loving being able to turn in circles without being tangles in cables. I'll end up getting a better HMD for simulations some day, but I'm waiting to see what else comes out in the next year or so.
I agree 100%. No question the 4090 is a game changer. Flight Sim has been my hobby for 40years and have been fortunate enough to be able to use the latest hardware for all of those years. The 4090 is the biggest jump I have seen in performance ever. Prior to the latest hardware I spent as much time tweaking my system as flying, constantly trying to get another frame or two. Thankfully it seems those days are gone. I have 2 systems. 13900k + 4090 + Aero and 12900k +3080TI + G2. I fly sim airliners and have spent 1000's of hours in the 737, 777, 747 and A320 on VAtsim and I am senior member of a virtual airline. For me high immersion VR has been the single biggest change in all those years. Know that we have study level airliners in MSFS along with stunning graphics and the hardware it does not get any better. (at the moment!!)😀😀
Appreciate the honesty and the perspective this video brings. Im running a 2080ti with a 9900k on a G2 but always dreaming of a 4090 with an Aero but actually watching this have a bit more appreciation for what VR alone brings to the experience, only having had it for about 2 months now and loving it which to your point is what its all about. Maybe one day will be able to splash the cash on a high end setup, but for now will enjoy what VR and MSFS offers.
Couldn't agree with you more. I'm pairing the 4090 with a 5800x3D and get the same performance at 39ppd in MSFS, also in TAA mode. Ultra settings. Also in elite dangerous 39ppd, ultra settings getting 90 fps. I couldn't be happier. The game feels brand new. Glad to see there's now something for everyone in this genre. No need to jump to AM5 anytime soon. And the Varjo aero gets better with every upgrade.
The leap in performance from my 5700XT to the 4090 was mind blowing. MFS2020 is the exact reason I picked up a 4090 and my god the difference. It's a holy experience lol. Assetto Corsa is up there too esp if you have a wheel/shifter. Modding community has really kept that game looking amazing for modern cards.
With a 3090 I was on 35 ppd with the Varjo Aero. Very acceptable. Graphics were great. I bought a 4090 and went to 39 ppd. The clarity is amazing. I'm a sim racer mostly but also run MSFS 2020. The differences are night and day. R9 5900x / 32gig DDR4ram.
I must agree with you Steve; the RTX 4090 is fantastic; such smooth performance using the Aero; I am addicted to MSFS now!! Almost more than biking lol.
Thank you for your insights. As a first time, to be, a buyer of a VR headset and a "suitable" GPU it's a message to take in. If I find out that am in it for the long run, I will be happy for what I have and when I can afford it, I will appreciate the upped level of performance/quality a Varjo/4090 will deliver.
Glad to hear we're getting over the hump performance-wise. Unless some sweetheart deal falls in my lap though, I'm going to stick with my 3090 until the next gen of GPUs and headsets drops in a couple years. I feel like that might be the point we finally have few compromises. We'll just invent new ways to slow things down at that point, but that's progress. 😂
Very clever video Steve. Good advice. Having already made the choice to buy a 13900/4090 - it's come too late for me! 😅 Loving performance in my Reverb G2. Just want to add though, you mentioned a lot of options - Ultra settings, no OpenXR Toolkit, no reprojection, TAA etc. In my experience even using a 4090 in the G2 with this configuration, I do notice a slight judder and it gets worst moving my head from side to side in the cockpit which is the acid test for me for smoothness. So I'm using Ultra settings with DLSS Quality and Automatic Reprojection with it set to 115% and at the moment it's giving me a truely incredible GA experience in London, New York, wherever the location doesn't matter anymore the performance is incredible.
Thanks David much appreciated! I've actually been using MR again tonight and wow, I take back what I said in the video, it feels amazing (especially for low and fast flights). Cheers :)
Upgraded this past week to the 4090 and I'm extremely(!!!!) happy with it. I previously owned a 3080 and 3090 (ended up selling the 3090 and just keeping the 3080 because the jump wasn't enough for me) and rocked the 3080 FTW3 for quite a while. Now I've got my 4090 running my Pimax 5k+ and I couldn't be happier. It crushes everything I throw at it, and the first time I loaded up a random training mission in DCS and saw 90fps rock solid......mind, blown. I'm gonna go get back in and find a random place to explore in FS2020. 4090 is worth every single penny 😁
Upgraded by my 3080ti xtreme to a 4090. It really felt a boost in performance. Been running nearly all of my games at 5080x4700, and the fact it doesn't dip in performance is mindblowing.
2080 Ti for me, so it's even bigger. The thing is, as Steve has alluded to, I got a great expereince with the 2080 Ti, but now I have an even better one. I'm also looking at upgrading my G2 next year but still not sure which headset I'll get so the extra grunt will be useful for that. From what I've read the 2080 Ti is the absolutely minimum to run something like an Aero or Crystal so I needed to upgrade anyway. 👌
@@Mike-kt4qh Pico 4 is appealing, thanks! I like what Meta have done with the Quest the way the patch cycle is done, Q2 itself isn't an upgrade for the G2 so I'm currently waiting on the Q3 but I'm also interested to see what the Crystal and Pico 5 are like....
I want to upgrade but then realize i think i enjoy watching tuber of other people flying more than i enjoy flying myself. Thank you for the video steve. Peace✌
Nice balanced view, clearly a massive step change, but you are right that once you are hooked you are hooked. The non tweaking does sound tempting though. Keep up the great work, always appreciated.
I've had an Oculus Rift since day one. And I get the general idea from Google Earth VR. But I am a simmer, right now on an Xbox X.. I have been waiting for the day to jump to VR. That day may have finally arrived. It's why I watch these videos.
Mmmm. Sadly I have to challenge some of what you have said in this video Steve…. I have an i9-10900 with Rog Strix 4090 and the Varjo Aero. For the kinds of aircraft you are flying, everything you said is true. However, performance is NOT perfect at complex airports or over highly detailed terrain if you are flying the Fenix A320 or the PMDG 737. Much tweaking STILL needs to be done to get these aircraft working seamlessly. We are 90% of the way there but not there yet. If I fly the Kodiak…. I get the kinds of results you report. I thought it was worth pointing this out so that those who predominantly flying airliners and love your channel have the full picture.
Steve, in 4K flatscreen (machine build still in progress and VR not tried yet) the difference between a 13900K and even an all core OC 10900k is huge. Add a 4090 and, as you say, you can just set Full Ultra and fly (add Frame Generation on flat screen). I did have the 4090 on my 10900K but pairing it with the 13900K takes it to a new level as MSFS needs all the CPU power it can get.
I am really interested in what you are saying here. I considered upgrading to a 13900 but was told I would not notice much difference (no more than 10% at best).
Sure, but what about in VR, which many of us watching this particular video are using? I am yet to find a definitive answer on whether upgrading CPU from say 10th Gen Intel like Steve to 13th Gen, or even the mighty 5800X3D, makes any notable difference to average FPS in CPU bound situations IN MSFS VR.
@@ResetXPDR All core 5.7GHz overclock on the P Cores of a 13900K (E Cores all at 4.4GHz) beats the 5800X3D with ease and also the 7950X according to RUclips MSFS videos I have seen. As a Reverb G2 in VR is an even heavier load than 4K flatscreen I would definitely say that 10900K to 13900K is a very significant upgrade as the 10900K was the bottleneck even at 4K. VR isn't my priority (no current headset gives 4K edge to edge clarity and OLED contrast) but I hope to try the G2 in a few days when I have finished building my system into its case. I have a couple of videos on my channel.
@@Drmerlin604 What CPU and GPU are you running at the moment? ISTR Steve also has a 10900K and 3090 and in his first video using the 13900K and 4090 thought it was a huge upgrade.
Your next step Steve is a 6 DOF motion platform like the ones provided by departed reality and their free DIY project. Or other DIY project of the same kind. Anyway , thanks again for your, always, interesting and informative videos.
Good to know. Have a 13900K at 6 GHz with RTX 3090 and Reverb G2 which gives me very acceptable frame rates and no stutter. But will get a 4090 later next year when prices become more affordable. Are you using Windows 11 yet for MSFS?
@@arafat86 I have an Asus ROG Maximus Extreme with DDR5 Corsair Dominator 32 Gb memory overclocked to 6200. Took quite a few times to get XMP I at the best voltages. Well worth it.
How do you keep the 13900k cool at 6ghz, mine is always hitting high temps even at stock. Something is not right atm in my rig, I need to reapply thermal paste probably
@@Mike-kt4qh I use an AIO cooler Corsair Hydro Series iCue H150i Elite 360mm radiator with 6 120mm fans. The rad is top mounted with three of the fans under the pushing and three fans on top pulling all speed controlled with iCue app curve calibrated to maximum speed once temperature reaches 60 degC. It rarely goes above 80 degC although it does get quite noisy.
Missed this one glad I found it 😮💨 was debating the same spec upgrade from a 3090 in a couple of weeks, so your vids sold it to me nice one ✊🏻 what PSU would you recommend, 850 or 1k ?
i currently got a i5 10400f and a gtx 980ti, with everything low it performs ok. but i want to upgrade to have more FPS because my stomac is sensible. so if i upgrade to lets say a 4070ti or amd rx 7900xt or rx 7800xt, will i see a major upgrade or is the CPU on its limit rn too? because i see always "limited by gpu" and "limited by main threat" in exchange . i am running a Quest 2 and besides vr just do sim racing on a 1080p ultra wide monitor
Been watching you for 3 years. started with the Rift S and a gtx980 Now I'm rocking a Pimax 8kx on a 3090. im looking at the crystal next and hopefully a 4090. cheers!
May i ask how you are getting to record this in VR i have a Quest 2 and when i try and record MFS i see both eyes cant find how to just show the one eye in the games setting for VR. If i use the Quest 2's Oculus mirror the play back pulls black jagged edges in from the sides it dont look as good as what im seeing of yours any help would be gratefully appreciated
Can I ask a question, how do you get the camera to free roam around like that. I want to be able to move around inside my planes and see things from a different perspective. Also I am eagerly waiting for my new gaming PC to be delivered today. A 5800X3d, 4090, 64 GIG of 3600 mhz ram. I am so excited!!! Oh yea, how did you get people in the seats of the Honda Jet, that is AMAZING and something I would love to have for my sim.
Another great motivation video for us VR enthusiasts 👍 I am absolutely with you. Life without VR flighing…not imaginable anymore. One Question: How long did you need for reinstall all your programs and drivers to your new stormforce power pc ? Did you maked a copy and paste from one system to the other or a completely msfs download 🙈 happy flighing and thx for this video 👏✈️
Great video, I am looking to upgrade soon. I currently have a 6700k, 16gb ddr4 and RTX 2080 TI. I play Assetto Corsa VR and looking to get into ACC, Flight Sims, Elite Dangerous etc. I want to max out or play with as high settings as possible w/ rock solid frame rate. I am thinking of going with 6950x3d when they release / 64 gb ddr5 / 4090. I am trying to sort out if I will need liquid cooling for this CPU or if I will be ok with the top rated air coolers / good fans moving air thru my case. I have an older huge Lian Li case that I love and I am not sure if I could fit a radiator in the front if I remove all 5 5.25 drive bay covers.
Timely video. Tonight I switched from a 2070S to a 3080 on my 3 yr old Ryzen 3900 rig, and feel I got £800 worth of value: Ultra or High, 100% scaling etc. 40 + fps is smooth and fine for me. DLSS really helped the 2070S, but the 3080 has nudged the system into a qualitatively better place. I guess I can afford the 4090, but honestly think I’d have buyers’ remorse now if I’d gone for it. The headset (G2) is good but is now the weak link for me, and in two or three years I expect to upgrade the whole smash. Geez, with the visuals sorted, we’re all going to want full motion rigs.
I went from 3080 at MSRP to 4090 MSRP both on launch dates bought and well worth it for VR, infact anyone using Pimax/Varjo having 4090 is a must have, with Arpara it didn't seem worth it for me as 3080 was enough but 8KX was game changer for me
Hey, been watching your videos for a while now, great work. I have an Rtx2060 super with rift S VR, i5-9600k 64gb ram and looking to upgrade. I've heard so much hype about the 4090 that I'm prepared to bite the bullet and get one, bypassing the 30 series all together. Next upgrade my VR headset from the Rift-S to the? Also what programe do you video your gameplay with and well as talking over the top with 2 audios? Cheers
Just wondering how much of the heavy lifting the 4090 does on my more inferior PC? I have a i7-10700 @ 2.90GHz so do I need to upgrade everything including cooling to run the 4090 on mine and would that improve my VR experience on a Quest 2?
He's right, its do-able on lesser spec pc's but its a never ending battle with settings that just brings disappointment. VR needs power and lots of it, not recommended on a tight budget especially in MSFS 2020 in my experience.
Nice, I would love to have the RTX4090 but its way too expansive, even if I had the money I refuse to pay absurd highly overpriced GPU. I'll just rather buy top van team red to give my middle finger to Nvidia because they don't deserve the money they are charging while I applaud their engineers that created this monster but CEO and others that manipulate the market, lie that they never sold directly to crypto miners what they did in a massive way and gave middle finger to us all during Covid / Crypto period. Now we all should to the same for them. I love they can't sell any castrated RTX 4080's and once Team red release their RX 7900 XTX they will get some serious beating. It's not good to create a masterpiece GPU that most of us can't afford. VR Headset competition will come with AMD GPU support if they want to sell their headset. That's my personal opinion so don't take this personal. It's just a angry face toward evil Nvidia.
What are your current Nvidia settings? Have they changed much since the upgrade?

You mentioned there's no need for OpenXR Toolkit anymore with this setup but I thought OpenXR Toolkit was required for the eye tracking in the Aero to work? As for the 13900K and whether it's worth it, I'd say that very much depends on what kind of flying you do. If you're in a complex airliner such as the PMDG 737, the 13900K certainly makes a difference. Especially when coupled with the 4090. Without a 13900K in that scenario, you'll find yourself limited by the CPU straight away. I know this from own experience. When I replaced my 3090 with the 4090, my FPS increased by 20 FPS. Then replacing my 129000KS with the 13900K, I gained another 10 FPS. So based on my experience, I'd say the 4090 and the 13900K match each other very well.
Thanks Richard, not being much of an airliner guy I did not realise this.

@@VRFlightSimGuy No, I know airliners aren't your cup of tea 😉 Still interested in understanding what you said about OpenXR Toolkit. Are you saying the eye tracking in the Aero works in MSFS even without OpenXR Toolkit? When I got my Aero, I started using it with OpenXR Toolkit straight away. Thought it was the only way to make MSFS use the eye tracking functionality in the Aero but maybe that isn't true 🤔?
Thanks Richard for sharing your experience. That was exactly what I had anticipated. Without the 13900K upgrade, one will not get the full potential of the 4090.
Yannick

My i7-10700 / 3080 system shows limited by main thread, not GPU. Seems a i7-13700 would get me more benefit than a GPU upgrade to a 4090, as my 3080 isn't being fed fast enough now. Am I mistaken?
Two questions please. 1. With the 4090 in VR, does it feel like looking at a 4k monitor or less. 2. Whats it missing? As in what would you like to see improved. I am retiring and want to use this as a gift to myself if its a lot better than 2080super
Hi Peter, It is a night and day difference as far as upgrades and generational leaps go. I went from a 3090 to 4090 and I am amazed by it more and more everyday. Especially with retiring, splash out the cash. You must have worked hard to get to this point so reap the rewards and I hope you enjoy your buttery smooth VR future and all that transpires.
Actually building a 13900K rtx4090 setup for use with my G2, coming from 5900x and 3090 can't wait, just being able to use it native you say no more open xr etc, do you use frame generation?
I came from 3080Ti and 5800x, to a system similar to yours 4090 + 13900k absolute beast of a PC now and when combined with WD SN850X 2TB everything runs smoothly
I did a massive upgrade last year a bought and brand new pc with a 12900KF and a 3090. Probably won't be upgrading for several years now, even as awesome as a 4090 sounds like. My recent investments for the sim has been into force feedback flight controls and coming pretty soon: an upgradable 2DOF motion rig. That, coupled with VR, I believe will be absolutely bonkers!
I was not sure if I should spend on the 4090 giving how expensive it is, but after watching this video…I know I must. Why oh why I can’t help myself now!
I would assume just as blurry as always. I would say the headset itself is the limiting factor in the case of the Quest 2. Even the stand alone games are a blurry mess in my opinion. The resolution just isn't good enough for my standards. And until I can try a new headset and see with my own eyes what it looks like I don't trust anyone's opinions on other headsets either.
Hopefull news for flightsims and VR. I recently bought a 3090 and am not impressed with it in FS2020 and i still get sick. DCS is ok but not perfect yet in VR with Reverb G2. 4090 might be worth in some time.
I'm interested to see how the AMD RX 7900 XTX performs for DCS (& MSFS). If the reference model stays at MSRP $1000, which I'm hoping for UK means £1000 (£1.20 to $1 conversion, then add 20% VAT ~ 1:1), it could be good price to performance for VR, as it's hoped to have rasterization performance not far off or similar to 4090 - maybe can hit similar FPS numbers. I'm hoping you'll get a chance to try out a 7900 XTX on loan from someone. 🤞
Im still running rtx 2080ti and ryzen 7 3700x and more than pleased with how my vr games look and run, theres just no way i could spend that much on the new cards.i found theres alot of settings you can reduce without it effecting the visuals too much, also having a pc streamlined just for games helps
VR is such a powerfull experience that inmersion even in low setting is way better than a top monitor with full graphics. Of course, to max out the experience you need the 4090, but a 3070ti will do the job.
I couldn’t really play MSFS on the Aero before. the trade off between getting over 40fps and settings didn’t make it worth it. But now it’s phenomenal. Still could do with reprojection. But now I’m running ultra settings, 39ppd and getting 40fps. Any news on when reprojection will be out? It seemed pretty much done when Steve visited Varjo
Hi Steve, I would love your setup and without boasting could probably afford it but my current setup is just about adequate for my needs. Intel core i5 9600k, MSI 3600 12gb gpu, 32gb memory and nvme 1gb SSD, Oculus Quest 2 . I run MSFS in VR at medium to high settings and it is a little blurry but still great fun and is better than pancake mode in my opinion. I'd be looking at least another £6-£7k to upgrade to a setup like yours. The trouble is if I tried it and loved it I know I'd end up buying !! Been flying the latest Harrier in VR and it's fantastic, even with my Quest 2.
Just installed a 4090 today to replace a 3080. Amazing! No more setting issues and never happy with smooth and clear VR. I didn’t wait for AMD 700xTX as I think we will have a DLSS 3 or MR solution using the Optical Flow motion of the card. Either way, it’s awesome right now. I’m using a 750W PSU. The high power and thermal issues are a myth.
Ever since update 11 I've noticed a lot of stuttering that i never had before. I hate updates. I'm still using the old quest 2 and for me VR is the only way to go.
I have a 4090 and a varjo aero I never seen squadrons look better in vr it reminds me of half life Alex but the Only other games I tried was gta 5 and cyberpunk 2077 have yet to try msfs 2020 cause my dumb Xbox game pass version always gets stuck on update for a day I will probably be buying the steam version of msfs2020 and hope it fixes the issue
So I had a reverb g2 and loved it. Been on triple screens for a while and loved that too. I don't have the G2 anymore but since getting a 4090 I thought I'd try VR again with my quest 2. Didn't enjoy it at all. Even upscaling it the colours are awful and it's just too bright. Yes the immersion was brilliant but I think the quest 2 is way off the G2 which is currently how I remember VR. I'm back to 4k monitor for now but have a Pimax Crystal on pre order. Really looking forward to that as I genuinely miss VR.
I fly DCS warbirds and IL-2, w/G2 and i9 9900K and RTX 3090….I have to lower the resolution drastically to spot enemy planes at 5 km. If I had a RTX 4090, it wouldn’t be right to drastically lower resolution to spot enemy planes at 5 km…Could you do a test showing the RTX 4090 in these two scenarios? Love your channel!
I'm currently on a 3070 and a quest 2. I'd love to get a 4090 and an Aero, but at current prices they aren't far off the cost of getting my PPL... Now there's a thought...
@@VRFlightSimGuy yeah it was a random though that crossed my mind while watching this particular video because you describe the subjective "feel" of the game. I have often seen people claiming "it's buttery smooth" when a simple fpsvr graph proved that they were running in reprojection for example. And we know fully well that DCS will eat any amount of hardware you throw at it and still stutter more or less 😁
@@StarLightPL I see what you mean, although FPS numbers only tell half the story, a solid 30MR feels great for example. Or 45fps non-MR with a great frame time can feel good too.
I disagree primarily due to the price Ngreedia is asking for a 4090 and their other 4000 series cards. Exchange rates and taxes increase these prices like $3400 avg in AUD for a 4090.

@Stephke Ra nah the 12700k is a solid processor. The 4090 is a beast in fs2020
The 13900k is the biggest factor. Yes it will make a big difference for the 40 series cards. This sim is hugely CPU limited.

Same system 👍💪
Since I haven't invested in a high end PC yet, I think I'll buy once and cry once (with joy)!
4090 is a beast, just installed the Gigabyte Master 4090
I got the 4090 since 2 days now and the Performance is really amazing... coming from a 3080Ti the difference is still huge!
Huge!
@David Jones for now the Pico 4 is insane in FS2020, great clarity and resolution but obviously some new headsets are on the way
@@Mike-kt4qh Pico 4 is appealing, thanks! I like what Meta have done with the Quest the way the patch cycle is done, Q2 itself isn't an upgrade for the G2 so I'm currently waiting on the Q3 but I'm also interested to see what the Crystal and Pico 5 are like....
Would love to upgrade to a 4090, but at around $3600 in Australia - it's a no.
Hard question - If I already have a RTX 3090 and the G2 headset and I can only afford either a RTX 4090 or the Varjo Aero which would you get first?
Hi Brent, I have a video on that very subject out this Friday
@@VRFlightSimGuy ok Thanks! : )
I want to upgrade but then realize i think i enjoy watching tuber of other people flying more than i enjoy flying myself. Thank you for the video steve. Peace✌
Cheers mate, always a pleasure to see your comments :)
Nice balanced view, clearly a massive step change, but you are right that once you are hooked you are hooked. The non tweaking does sound tempting though. Keep up the great work, always appreciated.
Would you recommend pairing a 4090 with the new 7000 series x3d Chip from Amd instead?
I've had an Oculus Rift since day one. And I get the general idea from Google Earth VR. But I am a simmer, right now on an Xbox X.. I have been waiting for the day to jump to VR. That day may have finally arrived. It's why I watch these videos.
Your opinion on AMD cards? Will you be trying the 7900XTX?
I'm not sure about buying one, but I will certainly be showing it on the channel in the near future
Are you using virtual desktop or what? I would love to know more about your setup. I'm about to go with a 7800 x3d +4090 update.
What I know for sure is that you need something better than a Quest 2 to even make out the PAPI lights on approach in daylight.
Will a MSI 4080 rtx work with Varjo Aero ?
Good to know. Have a 13900K at 6 GHz with RTX 3090 and Reverb G2 which gives me very acceptable frame rates and no stutter. But will get a 4090 later next year when prices become more affordable. Are you using Windows 11 yet for MSFS?
6ghz all day for the sim which mother board
Missed this one glad I found it 😮💨 was debating the same spec upgrade from a 3090 in a couple of weeks, so your vids sold it to me nice one ✊🏻 what PSU would you recommend, 850 or 1k ?
1000 watt would be perfect :)
Finally I'm hearing what I was hoping would be a thing. Will do the upgrade from 3090 to 4090 now. Thank you!
just moved from a 2080 to a msi suprim x 4090, wow what a difference in VR ! worth every penny, if your thinking of making the switch just do it.
4090 25 g not available , but the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16 g is , what do you think?
i currently got a i5 10400f and a gtx 980ti, with everything low it performs ok. but i want to upgrade to have more FPS because my stomac is sensible. so if i upgrade to lets say a 4070ti or amd rx 7900xt or rx 7800xt, will i see a major upgrade or is the CPU on its limit rn too? because i see always "limited by gpu" and "limited by main threat" in exchange . i am running a Quest 2 and besides vr just do sim racing on a 1080p ultra wide monitor
Great stuff! Even with a 4090 do you get any stutters at all any more?
You still get some in large airports, but that's also dependent on your settings and headset resolution.
Been watching you for 3 years. started with the Rift S and a gtx980 Now I'm rocking a Pimax 8kx on a 3090. im looking at the crystal next and hopefully a 4090. cheers!
Thanks for still being here buddy 🙏
Based on this video it sounds like you're REALLY going to enjoy the pimax crystal.
Yet again great video, so just confirm you are going with 39 PPD, TAA or DLSS??? dx 11? with the aero?
Thanks! 39PPD TAA
As soon as I can make it work I will pair my 3900x/G2 combo with a RX 7900 XTX from AMD (currently 1080ti). No more money to Nvidia from me.
I went from 3080 at MSRP to 4090 MSRP both on launch dates bought and well worth it for VR, infact anyone using Pimax/Varjo having 4090 is a must have, with Arpara it didn't seem worth it for me as 3080 was enough but 8KX was game changer for me
Hello, why is not in VR setting NVIDIA DLSS FRAME GENERATION like in PC setting? Thank You
Hey, been watching your videos for a while now, great work.
Cheers
Now we just need a full body motion exoskeleton like the Holotron.
Just got my 13900KF 4090 today. Going to set it up later.
Just wondering how much of the heavy lifting the 4090 does on my more inferior PC? I have a i7-10700 @ 2.90GHz so do I need to upgrade everything including cooling to run the 4090 on mine and would that improve my VR experience on a Quest 2?
4090/i9 13900 = VR perfection. It's TRUE......everything on ultra.....any game. I speak from experience.
@@VRFlightSimGuy No, I know airliners aren't your cup of tea 😉
Still interested in understanding what you said about OpenXR Toolkit.
@ When I use the 39PPD setting. I have used the toolkit for eye tracking which gives a nice boost
@@VRFlightSimGuy And without the toolkit, the eye tracking isn't used in MSFS - correct?
I just installed the 4090 and my performance didn’t improve much over the 3080. I do have a i9900k but I don’t think that’s the issue.
I have exactly the same experience, so it might be the i9900
I’ve got a 12900 and am having major issues and low fps with my new 4090. Not much better than my old 3080.
Bonjour, tout d'abord, merci pour vos vidéo, j'aime beaucoup. Est il possible d'avoir votre config réglages DCS, NVIDIA, VARJO et OPENXR? My i7-10700 / 3080 system shows limited by main thread, not GPU. Seems a i7-13700 would get me more benefit than a GPU upgrade to a 4090, as my 3080 isn't being fed fast enough now. Am I mistaken?
Since it was mentioned in the vid, what's your best take on the Varjo Motion Prediction ETA?
My guess is, before Christmas. But I really don't know for sure.
Two questions please.
1. With the 4090 in VR, does it feel like looking at a 4k monitor or less.
2. Whats it missing? As in what would you like to see improved.
I am retiring and want to use this as a gift to myself if its a lot better than 2080super
It is still not quite 4K monitor quality but very close.
Hi Peter,
It is a night and day difference as far as upgrades and generational leaps go. I went from a 3090 to 4090 and I am amazed by it more and more everyday.
Especially with retiring, splash out the cash. You must have worked hard to get to this point so reap the rewards and I hope you enjoy your buttery smooth VR future and all that transpires.
I'm using a 3090 and that would already be a massive upgrade for you, I can't imagine what the 4090 would do. Enjoy!
Love the video. Are you running dx12?
Thanks David. Affirmative
@jonmabec You should do a video showing your setup and how the motion rig works. Sounds interesting.
Does MSFS support force feedback?
@@JorisKoolen not natively, but the controllers i use has their own Software to do the force feedback forces. Works perfectly fine with MSFS.
@@jonmabec That sounds great. I love my old Microsoft Sidewinder FFB2, but ironically it doesn't work with Microsoft Flight Simulator...
I was not sure if I should spend on the 4090 giving how expensive it is, but after watching this video…I know I must. Why oh why I can’t help myself now!
"Worth it" is very subjective. If you are rich and VR enthusiast then it is well worth it.
Brilliant. Sounds like a summary of our conversation 😁👍🏻
How good does it look with all those settings using the Quest 2?
I would assume just as blurry as always. I would say the headset itself is the limiting factor in the case of the Quest 2. Even the stand alone games are a blurry mess in my opinion. The resolution just isn't good enough for my standards. And until I can try a new headset and see with my own eyes what it looks like I don't trust anyone's opinions on other headsets either.
I’d love to upgrade my 3090ti or 3080ti to a 4090 but they aren’t available.
I hope you can find a supplier soon
The 7900xtx will be similar to the 4080
@@Mike-kt4qh Seems to be the case from reviews and benchmarks now out.

Exactly!
Do you use FSRealistic with VR ?
Negative. I'm not a fan.
Nice one Harry, should be out real soon now
Hi Steve, I would love your setup and without boasting could probably afford it but my current setup is just about adequate for my needs.
I will give you a quick advice, when you can get the i7 13700k, rtx 4090 and Pico 4. Sublime combo for any sim

Quest 2 is rubbish in fs2020, Pico 4 is a beast. I also got the Quest Pro and Pico 4 beats it as well specially when using VR Desktop
I heard upgrading your cpu will give a big jump to performance.
just ordered HP Reverb G2 for $299 to pair it with my RTX3080Ti card.. I hope it works well...
Welcome to DCS - high resolution = more blended = spotting which makes it harder .
Heh, I have your original rig! A 1070 and CV1. DCS is starting to struggle now but it’s still plenty fun.
The big question is. Do dlss 3.0 framegeneration work in vr?
No
Not... Yet.
I'm currently on a 3070 and a quest 2. I'd love to get a 4090 and an Aero, but at current prices they aren't far off the cost of getting my PPL... Now there's a thought...
😂. I have over 5000 hours in VR…. What would it cost to do that in the real world?????
Plus side of vr you can fly whatever the hell you want and not limited to some 40yo aircraft😂😂😂
This video would be better with settings and fps posted, because the "feel" is subjective. Some will enjoy 30fps, some won't.
I have PLENTY of videos showing fps numbers. Cheers!
But I want rhe 4090 now mommy!
No link to FS Academy ???
Fixed. Thankyou www.fsacademy.co.uk/
It's worth it if you have production uses.
I disagree primarily due to the price Ngreedia is asking for a 4090 and their other 4000 series cards. Exchange rates and taxes increase these prices like $3400 avg in AUD for a 4090.
never thought I would ever even consider buying a video card for $2000. oh wait I wont.
It's in every industry, for the cutting edge, you have to pay a premium.
