I literally did this TODAY The place where I work is next to a furniture store. On my break, I went over and told them I make puppets and need foam blocks. I asked if they had any they were gonna just throw away. Guy goes in the back, comes back a few minutes later with a big stack of reticulated foam, couch cushions, etc. I've got enough for a few puppets already, and it was free and only took a few minutes. Cruise around to furniture stores and see what they might have.
So I have a vision that's nagging at me and have to do it, so I'm obsessively searching on how to make puppets. But, for some reason, I can't find any video that gives a detailed explanation on how to apply the fleece nice and taut to sculpted faces and bodies. For instance, if I want a full body with details like boobs and such, and a head with cheekbones and nostrils and a sculpted in nose, how is the fleece applied to fit the sculpted shape perfectly? It would mean the world to me to find out how to do this.
Is the foam you used "viscoelastic foam"? if not, cutting with scissors like this from the video in a block of viscoelastic foam, do you get a good result? or does it give a bad result?
That’s really clever with the blade water bottle disposal
Safety first!
Where can beginners get large foam blocks for carving?
We get foam from Bob’s Foam Factory.

what is your preferred scissor brand combo? cutting foam is tough without the right scissor
We usually use Fiskers. They have some good large and small options. Plus they make a left handed scissor for us lefty’s.
