I’m loving this era of overlooked actresses getting their ‘f u’ moment to critics with a performance that counteracts a lifetime of derision. Amazing times. :) Jennifer Coolidge, Jamie Lee Curtis, Demi Moore, Pamela Anderson.
I love how Demi doesn’t pander the movie’s message to just “women”. It has great universal themes of aging, self hate, internal conflict that can apply to anyone.
Most women would just call it a women story wich it is but the themes in the movie are also very universal and it doesn't just apply to women so I respect demi a lot more for that.
@@slonmishMen are also pushed away once they become old and "useless" to society. And the original commenter summarised it succintly. The film to me was more about a drug addiction. This movie was very good, it has multiple threads from which to pull.
Yes! Such a completely overwhelming experience and so good to share with others at the cinema. We were in Newtown, Sydney, at the 10am showing and as it finished, the guy behind us said "Well, that's gonna make lunch a bit rough". 😅
Oh, to be a fly on the wall for this movie. I need to hear the conversations between Demi & Margaret about Elisabeth. There is a LOT to unpackage, and both actresses give so much of themselves to this person.
the best type of art is how they can have wide resonance FROM their specificity. this movie was just the epitome of what all the components of movie making CAN do. it's just utterly criminal that margaret didn't get a nom.
I'm an almost senior-aged woman and loved the movie. I came out of the movie feeling strangely empowered. Did any other women feel this way? Or maybe men too?
I'm a 22 years old male and when I watched this movie, I empathised with Elizabeth and I identified with the mirror scene because I've also looked at myself with that wtf feeling, like I can't make sense of my face. Many disliked the ending because of how harrowing it was. To me, it was perfect. It's a tragedy, it's horror. It's supposed to be uncomfortable and brutal. It really drove home the point of how unfair Elizabeth's treatment was.
Yes! I’ll be 50 in July. This movie made me tear up with gratitude because younger me really loved me! She always did little things like moisturize, drink more water, workout, be mindful of our karma etc. So now, I can look back at her (now that I am having my seven days) and be grateful for her having looked out for me!
Margaret is already is, but is going to be an amazing actress. They way that she is able to sit back and listen, learn, and absorb as opposed to trying to share the spotlight or show off because her ego doesn’t need that. She’s pretty awesome.
These ladies have great chemistry! Demi deserves an Oscar for this brave role, and Margaret deserves at least a nom. Hard to beat Zoe Saldana and Ariana Grande in this category though 😢
to be honest, I started to feel empathy when the.. dark twist on cinderella was happening and when it got to the 'monstruo' part I was more: "oh god.. this.. this isn't happening.. 😖" and felt so many different things. everyone who worked on this knocked it right out of the park. the movie deserves to exist just as much as Sonic 3
Demi's performance was amazing and I'm glad she was nominated for an Oscar, but it would have been nice to see someone like Robin Wright or Naomi Watts (who hasn't had as much plastic surgery) get a role like that. 💕
weird to say, but I guess it's kinda like with Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston in 'Breaking Bad' they go through THE WORST on that show but when you see them talk and interact in person and you see them get along you're not really surprised..
i want to see this movie substance, its a relevant subject this obsession to be 'forever young' in outer self not inside as a young heart or being 'zohra sehgal' a subject short story i want to write maybe tomorrow it will start in WGF
Great interview, but I can really feel Margaret Qualley's nervousness when answering questions. It must be hard to speak in front of an audience. i couldn't do it.
Looks are so over-valued they promote all kinds of vices. Society reinforces these with incentives everywhere you turn. Need to fight back, and this movie helps.
The movie is great, it deserves an oscar or two easily. The point is trying to make is pretty clear. The only critique I have, is that the way they portrait "ageism" in showbiz is cliche, again disregarding why people seek young and beautiful others. Of course there is some douchynes to it but the main reason is human instincts, our brains are wired to "seek" apparent healthy humans, regardless of sex, regardless of the activity involved. Of course rationally we know that sometimes old people will perform a task better because they have experience, but instinctively we will see gray hair and wrinkles and our primitive brain will assume they are not as strong and helpful as a younger human would be. Which is probably true in most cases. In conclusion, aging is objectively a bad thing that happens to all of us, and so, we all know what kind of problems comes with becoming an elderly person. Is not most people being a**holes, is just cave brain, "if we go hunting this apparent strong human could help me survive and bring food to the village or if i get hurt could carry me back for healing" and that instinct is applied to almost everything.
This film's portrayal of sexism isn't 'cliche' - it's true to life. It's so true to life that Hollywood can't even laugh about it during the awards season, because it's pretty much a documentary. Sexism didn't go anywhere, let's not joke ourselves. Nothing in our brains is 'wired' to seek younger flesh, it's nurtured and drilled in young minds with pop culture, glamour magazines, advertisements and movies in which a pretty face plays anyone and everyone, from a plumber to Bob Dylan. We don't line in caves, haven't been for a long time. Instead of searching for excuses, elevate yourself.
front runner for the oscars after her Globe win, has made the race more interesting and like another sex symbol of the 90s, Sharon Stone who got the nomination and was a front runner in 95/96...i hope Demi receives it, and the judges ignore her looks and focus on her performance and interesting body of work over the years and some really bold movies
“The Substance” was the BEST film of 2024!!!!
No question, one of the best movies I have seen in years… it has stayed with me more than any recent movie I’ve seen.😊
😂
PERIOD.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Demi Moore is going to win an Oscar for this performance, I intuit.
She did.
@@adale2771no she won a golden globe. Oscar noms are not out yet.
@@Thejoshuahessout now, she’s nominated I really hope she wins.

Jennifer Coolidge, Jamie Lee Curtis, Demi Moore, Pamela Anderson.
Demi's comments really shows her experience. Give her the SAG already 😍
Demi Moore deserves every award bc she’s so incredible
I love how Demi doesn’t pander the movie’s message to just “women”. It has great universal themes of aging, self hate, internal conflict that can apply to anyone.
since when did women become 'just'? it's the biggest part of the film, the director's intention, and the male version would never be anywhere as cool.
Most women would just call it a women story wich it is but the themes in the movie are also very universal and it doesn't just apply to women so I respect demi a lot more for that.

It's a mostly women story and there's nothing wrong with that, men can have their little braindead action films
Demi will win Oscar
YOU GUESS IT RIGHT

I had no clue Margaret was underneath all those prosthetics, still acting up a storm. Demi deserves all of her praise, but Margaret is of equal merit.
THEY'RE ONE !!😂
Yeah, I wish Margaret would have gotten an Oscar nom as well.
The Substance is the best film of 2024 and the best horror film of the year
I’ve been in love with Demi forever! 😘
Demi Moore and Margared qualley so beautiful actresss.

They were both SO amazing in this film 🎥 🎞

It's a cathartic experience for sure. A lot of rage is built up and expelled, symbolically and literally.
i am a 50 year old gay asian male and it totally resonated with me. not exactly empowering but it was intensely thought provoking.
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ it was exactly because it was harrowing that it worked the metaphor to it's tragic end. i thought it was utterly brilliant

Margaret should've been Oscar nominated for Best Supporting Actress too.
I'd like to see both Demi and reunite in the forseeable future for another project!
Margaret is a SPECTACULAR young actress. She'll go very far. As for Demi as the song says " I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!". Amazing subversive film
now that's the best explanation of the "you are one" I've heard. Obviously, it makes sense coming from the artists who helped create her.
Love this

Просто потрясающе
How did God create such beauties 😍 🤩 💯
Yes I’m a man and the movie made me question what attachments I have in life
when you 'hauled your ass down that hallway' I only figured that Lis was just that resilient

11:30 what kiss?
They both do the blowing kiss thingy
I think she means the one they both blew at the end of their TV appearances.
It’s when they blow a kiss at the end of their respective shows (Sparkle Your Life and Pump It Up)
“Take care of yourself”
I see a Timothee and Margaret movie sibling thriller movie.
Rather Jacob and Margaret
