Shining Defiant (Improvised synth solo) | Shallie Dragon

"In the ocean, it's dark, lightning is flashing, in the middle some sort of manmade structure floating, a light on it in the eye of the storm, shining bright though insignificantly small in contrast to the vast ocean, but defiant nonetheless.
No one may ever see it, but the light stays lit anyways, against the raging storm and the waves." -VoodooG, upon hearing this for the first time.
I was feeling very… stuck, creatively. I have a ton of projects on the go, but I’ve been struggling to work on them, because I feel this pressure to… “be good”. A pressure to make something of sufficient quality. And it was really affecting me emotionally. I was in a funk. I felt sad, frustrated…
I don’t know the last time I made something for fun, just for the heck of it. So I did this. I created a backing track, chose a synth lead, and I just… jammed. With no expectation of releasing it. I ended up really liking what I produced, so I made a video for it (based on VoodooG’s comment), and here it is. I hope you enjoy!
Moreover, I highly encourage any musical types to just… make something, with no expectation of publishing it. Just create, for the sheer joy of creating.

Yes, I am aware that there are a couple "sour notes" in this performance. It was fully improvised, I recorded it in one take, and it was recorded to audio (rather than MIDI), so I was unable to edit the notes or automation to fix any "errors." But honestly? I'm not too bothered by it. This was made with zero expectation of being published. I just happened to really like it. It's important to be forgiving of yourself, and not expect perfection all the time.
