    I built a barn too - I started with pallets as the framework, sided with local milled lumber. I painted that with off color discount paint, then roofed it with some heavy plastic siding I picked up free of the side of the road. Total cost, $9 for the paint. For the kids, we built a panel to cut off about 1/3 of the small barn, and used plastic lattice to fill in the framework, leaving an opening big enough for the largest kids, too small for the smallest doe and used a scrap of fencing to make a closeable door for separation - it now serves as a creep feed so I can give growing kids their grain ration without mamas hogging it all. Because this barn has two doors, the second door is functional for the creep corner, and I can even fence off that door so there is a small outside yard, covered by the overhang porch area. The hay manger is in this porch area and accessible to both doors of the barn. I actually have a separate kidding stall in the much larger chicken coop, which the goats and chickens used to share. If I could do things over, I would have made my doe barn taller - I made the rookie mistake of making it "goat high" and now have to basically crouch in there to clean it... OOF! Otherwise, I love my little goat barn.

    You say it’s “not fancy” but I would love to have it. 😉Love the red barn paint and half doors. The window was hard to put in? Looks like you thought of everything. We’re always making steps towards self-sufficiency too, though as we’re actually doing it, we can see that will not happen. We’re a medical family, so we also aren’t of the homestead background. In fact, our background is more of the “suburb” background. 😂The homestead life is a lovely one.

    • @CattywampusAcres
      @CattywampusAcres 4 года назад +1

      How wide is the run? The his need to be able to get exercise and play, things like that. Goats don't need grass really, it just causes them to get worms more often and keeps the mud down in heavy rains. If you are providing them with adequate hay and occasional grain they will be perfectly happy. Anytime we cut down brush or tree limbs with fresh leaves they always gobble them down.

  • @morgancalvi6675
