I feel like there's a lot of Truth in that statement. Bigger and heavier runners are definitely going to feel shoes differently then a lighter runner.

Yeah, a friend with serious joint and weight issues prefers Ultraboost for the walking and standing comfort. I weigh 150 and to me Boost feels a bit squishy and imprecise for running, but comfy. I prefer the shoes with thinner Boost.

You're 100% correct in my opinion I think that Adidas is catering to the sneakerheads and Nike is an athletic company and is staying true to that they're a little mixed up on design language and that type of thing. I'm not a runner but I'm a walker I'll walk about 2 to 3 mi everyday and honestly the Adidas is my choice I think the infinity would be overkill for what I do but it has its place great review thank you.

Durability of Nikes have tanked in recent years in my experience. My Pegasus 36's didn't even last a year with sporadic use. Same story with my 8 month old Nike Infinity React Flyknits - the cushioning is visibly worn down with crease marks, and the shoe feels more mushy than springy. Meanwhile I have some 3-5 year old Adidas that look and perform better than the 8 month & 1 yr old Nikes. The Boost foam lasts forever, and for that reason alone I will take Adidas over Nikes.
But Nike durability wasn't always this terrible - my Pegasus shoes I bought 7 years ago held up well and lasted for a few years. It's as if Nike engineered their recent shoes to break down faster 👎🏽

You're right Michael, I've had 5 pairs of Ultraboost shoes, all slightly different versions over the last 5 years and comments to say these are not running shoes is completely wrong. The Ultraboosts are excellent running shoes and I am saying this having just bought a pair of Zoom X Invincible's, which I also love. 👍

I've tried to give my UB19 a chance for running, but it was so harsh. I experienced the same forefoot issues that you did, and it only felt decent when running faster which seems to run contrary to the nature of the shoe given its weight. It's now my casual walking shoe and it works perfectly fine for that.

You do bring up a good point about shoes and who these companies are marketing too. Because the invincible is a running shoe. And so is the ultraboost. But because one shoe has been co-oped by a entire culture it has a branding that wont go away. I will always view the ultraboost as a running show first, and a fashion icon second. And Kofuzi, Nike already has a runner shoe as fashion/sneakerhead shoe. Its the rest of the Air Max line. From the 1, 90, 95, 97,98 and more the air max line is what the ultraboost is to adidas,. yes, even over the superstar and the stan smith. there i said it.

It’s worth noting the Adidas Ultraboost has the tongue attached on the sides. If you have a higher instep, they are super tight. In 10.5 they made my toes go numb without even lacing them. The Nike has a regular tongue and I’m running in them comfortably. Previously a fan of the Adidas energy boost sole, I was bummed about the forced change.

your comment on shifting some of the heel foam to the forefoot, is exactly what i think the invincible needs. for me, there is simply too much heel foam and not enough forefoot foam. and as the zoom x is quite squishy, i tend to bottom out on the forefoot. which is not good at all for me. so , for me the invincible is relegated to a comfy casual shoe. and i cannot use it for running. end of story. but i am a hefty 20kg overweight dude. i tried on the ultraboost, but didn't run in them. the boost foam is not as soft as zoom x so might be a bit more supportive/stable with running. if nike designs another midsole, i'd want a composite of zoomx and some other firmer foam. perhaps even a design somewhat like the Mach 4 from Hoka..or an NB freshfoam 1080 v12 if they fix that silly heel counter !. dats my 2 cents. I'm also leaning toward shoes with less drop from heel to forefoot. but that is personal preference....as it all is really.

@@kofuzi I ran in UB 19s, 4 pairs of them, for about 6 months, nearly every day, about 1 to 1.5 hours, on mostly uneven, rough, a little bumpy surface, which is a really long sidewalk near a coastal freeway, consisting of cobblestone, with trees every 3 meters. I could run on the road, on tarmac, but cars passing by so close ( there are many many cyclists on that road though, and i've seen some runners too ) foiled that idea for me, sidewalk also has a barrier made of metal along the way so it became obvious where i would want to run. I wanted to feel safe and sound thus focus on the run. So i gave a clear picture about the conditions, i'll give some personal ones too. Firstly, i fully ruptured my achilles tendon, right foot, 4 years ago, had to undergo a open invasive surgery. My right leg stayed in full lenght plaster cast for 4 months, then 3 months more with half cast. It took me a year to properly walk and go to a market for example. In short my right leg wasn't in good condition. I had muscle atrophy, i've lost quite a bit explosiveness in my right leg and foot, i've lost snappiness and agility. And as if those are not enough my left achilles also developed tendinitis in these recover times. It has little ruptures. So in short i wasn't truly in a running form. I was 88 kg and 180 cm.
I just went and bought ultraboost 19s 4 pairs of them, and they protected both of my injury prone, sensitive achilles tendons, my whole out of shape right leg, they endured rough terrain and in 6 months time i never had an injury, i was never forced to give a break, only a day in a week or two, i could endure the strains and stress of daily running in such a shape, without a proper running resume, i ran before but not like a true runner, not consistently, i ran periodically before. I just have a natural predispositon to running. I can adapt quickly. I can go out and run for 2 hours even if i haven't run for a year or two, i guess this is because i have a predisposition to running.
So, i'm not experienced in running or running shoes, all i ever have are UB 19s. But i have a predisposition to running, once i ran for 6 hours, moderate pace to slower pace, just out of curiosity of how long i could take it. This was my personal record, that came after one month of training, and eventhough i'm not eligible to be considered a runner, not yet, i feel i have runner instincts that comes naturally, and my experiences with these Ultraboost 19s are saying those shoes or trainers are without a doubt running shoes. They must be. Otherwise things would go awry for my already injured, beaten, not ready, barely walking legs.
They may not be among the best running shoes, but they are solid running shoes, above average. How much above average is up to true runners to decide. To me they were more than enough. ^^
Thank you for reading that long read, i like to elaborate. ^^

As much as Nike's naming scheme confuses me, I quite like "Invincible" as a name for this shoe. It just makes you feel like your legs will survive any distance in that shoe. They could've definitely gone with a bit nicer upper though. I think calling it the Vapormax wouldn't have been a good idea because that name really represents the crazy airpocket midsole to me.

Boost is a lot more resilient during daily training. The zoom x without a plate is just strange to me. It would have been nice if they put like a nylon plate in the invisible and less outsole rubber.

They were so unstable that I felt like spending most of my energy to stay on my feet during the run. Other other hand, I have a pair of pulseboost HD which is not as comfortable for casual wear but offers better lock down and springy feeling when running.

I ran ~a lot~ of miles in the Ultraboost back in the day, when I was a bit overweight and not as efficient as a runner. It is a running shoe but definitely also something for the sneaker heads.
That said, I'm currently using the Solarboost 3 as my cushioned daily trainer and I really like it. I think this is the adidas shoes if you want a great running shoe that has a lot of cushion and boost in all the right places.

As for the invincible's design department, I consider White/Grey /Blue to be a better choice ( Nike UK offers more color choices ). For sure, Black/Grey/White would be the best, I am not going to argue with monsieur k.

My non runner take on both brands is that Adidas is constantly nailing the more sneakerhead oriented shoes, but Nike has been nailing the running shoe game overall. Adidas really needs to churn out better looking (and functioning) sneakers for the running crowd. They've relied on the UBs as their "running king" for too long even though its mostly sneakerheads who've eaten them up haha.

Ditto at 5:38 - I constantly find myself wishing the boost was somehow shifted forward toward the front where I am actually going to be using it. I guess all the boost in the back is just to allow for the stack height? I don’t know, but I never wear out the outsole in the back, and I never get noticeable use out of the huge amount of boost at the back of the shoe.

Bro, i don't know if it's too late to answer but here it is; i was in the same spot 3 months ago. I'm 180 cm, i was 108. Now i'm 85. I've lost 23 kgs in three months, here is the recipe; go to a dietist, they will want you to go visit them twice a month, do it, be strict about the diet, walk at least 1.5 hours a day, every day, no exceptions. ^^ And you'll be 85 at the blink of an eye too. 3 months is a very short time for such a massive weight loss.
All i used was Ultraboost 19s, i have 4 of them. And nowadays my body desires running again. Running sensations are coming naturally. My goal is to hit 80 kgs, then maybe i'll weight lift, maybe i start to run. I haven't decided yet. Ultraboosts are quite good for running. I ran in them for months before i gave up and started gaining weight and it was a very good experience. I never had muscle, joint, tendon pain and aches in 5 months of running. And my right achilles tendon fully ruptured 4 years ago i had to go through a surgery and also my left achilles has tendinitis, it's damaged. And regardless those ultraboost 19s protected my body quite well.
I hope that helps, good luck.

Is it correct to say that Zoom X Invincible is your current favorite in this max cushion genre overall? NB 1080 was the king in "Top 5 Max Cushion Shoes 2020" video, but then Zoom X Invincible won over both 1080v11 and Ultraboost 21 in recent videos...

I think adidas has the more singularly focused Boost and non-Boost running shoes on the Duramo, SolarGlide, SolarBoost, SL, Boston, SL and so many other affordable options. They can afford a shoe embraced by runners and casuals alike.
‘Love the title... even if it is “clickbait”.

You know it's a Nike sneakerhead shoe when Off White do a horrible version of it. Can't see that with the Invincible somehow! I think the UB21 is far less of a sneakerhead shoe than previous versions of the UB. I'd certainly run in it, if it wasn't for the fact that there are just better options out there.

How does the Invincible compare to the Vomero? They sound similar in purpose.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  3 года назад

I’m assuming you’re asking about the vomero 15, but that’s not available to me in the US, and I don’t plan on trying to get one. I’ll instead wait for the 16, which should have a US release this year.
The vomero existed first but does have a similar purpose as a Max cushion shoe. The Invincible is another shoe in the category, but it is all Zoom X where the vomero 15 and 16 are a combination of foams, including zoom x. In addition, the vomero is more of a shoe in and of itself, whereas the invincible is an intended cousin to the Infinity

UB21is one of the best looking shoes ever, and invincible run is the ugliest. I have 2 pairs of them both, invincible run makes me run a bit faster than usual. The upper is just too bulky, too much ridiculous padding. It’s almost annoying for skinny people, but I guess heavy people might like that type of upper. I wish the upper from the next tempo for the invincible run.
