    I don't know anything about canning. This was interesting. Have made fresh Cranberry sauce a few times, like it much better than canned. Appreciate your videos.

    I’ve canned cranberry sauce for years and have many half pints and pints in my storage.
    I just love to watch your videos.

      I enjoy my sauce made with the zest of an orange and the juice and pulp of said orange. And I use an orange per 2 lbs. I purchased 40 lbs from Azure and make one round of sauce and the rest juice for my little momma. It first year I wasn’t watching the draining and it drained all over the table and floor. Since then I don’t sweeten it when I can it. 😂 The second time last year that I did it and it lasted her 10 months. This year I purchased 40 lbs frozen and it made the same amount of juice so I have 25 lbs coming in my November haul. I have also gifted a couple quarts to my priest as I know he drinks it.
      The juice is concentrated and I sweeten with maple syrup and cut it 50/50 with coconut water so my momma gets the enzymes (search how coconut water was used during the Boah war😮).

    This recipe looks good. I am going to try this combo this Thanksgiving. BTW, you can also use canning rings to line the bottom of the pot to rest you jars on, if you don't have the rack.

    Yummy looking cranberry sauce! We have apples, no pears, so will add those. I’ve always added some orange zest so will probably add that too. Thanks for sharing your recipe. BTW, try roasting (bake, broil or braise) chicken breasts and liberally add cranberry sauce over top the last ten-ish minutes of cooking time. It caramelizes slightly and the chicken tastes Devine. We serve with roasted Brussels Sprouts. . Heaven!

    I live in the east coast of Canada, our cranberries are harvested in October. And we eat mostly the same as our American friends. This year we’re going to celebrate American thanksgiving, our grandkids are American. And we love turkey lol.

      So you do get them for your Thanksgiving. Good to know. We asked our kid who lives there and we got an “I don’t like cranberries” comment. Even in their 20’s they are still kids

    I have my big bag of cranberries at the ready! We can some every year. It's good with so many things - roast pork, rotisserie chicken, on a turkey sandwich.... YUM! Ours has finely minced onion (not much) and finely minced jalapeno in it. It's not "hot" at all but it adds a lot of savory flavor to it which plays nicely with the sweetness! We, being keto, make it with allulose instead of sugar. Works great! LOVE your channel!

      Cranberry juice and jalapeño jelly coming soon! I didn’t know you could use allulose. I’ll have to look it up.

    Thank you, that was very helpful (canning isn't really a thing here in the UK). I had bought a large pressure cooker pan from Lidl and I could not get it to work right (my husband could). So hearing your tip for using it to can without the lock on is exactly what I plan to do. Think it came with metal shelf thing for the bottom too. A video just for canning and using a pressure cooker might be a good idea.

    Modifications to Ali's recipe:
    Reduce or totally omit the sugar until after canning/tasting (with your prefered additions.)
    I usually don't cook my additions like apples, frozen fruits (berries and peaches), celery, onions, hot peppers, walnuts, et al. I put them in the jars topped with the cooked cranberries then water bath them. If they need more sugar when I open them, I drain some of the juice off and sweeten that. Combine the former and the latter. Oh heck yeah! A wonderful side dish year 'round for chicken and pork.

    Your cranberry sauce looks delicious. We must be having the same day. I’ve tripped over my tongue all day 😅 I wonder if it has anything to do with the full moon today ? Thanks for making me laugh (as usual). Had to go over to over to a neighboring county and got a speeding ticket 😳 34 in an unposted 25🙁 This is the only speeding ticket I have ever gotten. $129 due December 14 right before Christmas 😞

      No!!! That stinks. I got a speeding ticket while I was on a corporate conference call one time. School zone on the first day of school. Maybe it was the full moon or maybe I was just being me 😂 seems to be more and more normal to be scatterbrained.

    Can you show how to can cranberry juice?
    We go through so much of it that making it would save a ton of money.

    Sometimes in the kitchen, you just gotta get goofy:)lol This looks really good I think I’m going to make it for my hubby who loves whole cranberries:) Question for you???? What kind of apples would you use and is there a particular pear that you like better in this recipe? So you lived in California can I ask you where I am in California used to live in the bay area San Jose, campbell area:) I’m really enjoying your channel:) God bless:)

      We lived just east of Pasadena. I grew up in a town called Monrovia.
      I’d use a sweeter apple vs green. The pop of sweet would be best with the tart cranberries.
      I’m so glad you are here and thanks for commenting! God bless you and yours as well.

    Hi, thank you for your videos! I have learned alot! I have a texture issue with the chunks. If I strained them out, would this be like jelly?

    • @LittleHillHomesteadGa
      @LittleHillHomesteadGa  12 дней назад

      Yes. If you strain it out it is jelly. Its perfect flavored still without the chunks. I’d blend or puree it less so it strains easier.

    Ci have a question- do you need to use a new lid every time you “can” these or do you use the lids several times?

    • @LittleHillHomesteadGa
      @LittleHillHomesteadGa  16 дней назад +1

      Some people use them again but the wax wears down. Each time you use them again the chance of sealing lowers so you may have to process them again with a new lid. I sometimes do if I water bath canned with that lid. I throw away the ones I pressure canned with. I use the used lids for storing things without canning around the kitchen like nuts, fruit, leftovers in the fridge.

    Is there a reason you don't use vinegar to wipe your jars before placing the ring on the them?

    • @LittleHillHomesteadGa
      @LittleHillHomesteadGa  15 дней назад

      I often do. This didn’t seem to make a big mess so I wasn’t worried about it. Most of the time I do though.

    • @michellehughes8661
      @michellehughes8661 15 дней назад

      There is no need to use vinegar. The only thing being removed is fruit and sugar. Warm water and a clean cloth/paper towel is sufficent.

    How long do you waterbath for?

  • @Rosie-mz4bx
    @Rosie-mz4bx 15 дней назад

    Do you sterlize lids and rings? I've made homemade cranberry with orange juice but my family doesn't care for cranberry, so will just eat strawberry jelly. I want to can but it's intimidating just like working with dough.

    • @LittleHillHomesteadGa
      @LittleHillHomesteadGa  15 дней назад +1

      I do the jars in the dishwasher. I read that most lids no longer need to be heated up to work so I don’t. I rarely have a failure now that I don’t.

    • @michellehughes8661
      @michellehughes8661 15 дней назад +1

      There is no need to sterilize rings. As for lids, I just wash them with my jars in warm, soapy water. I have never had an issue. Keep in mind that water bath canning heats the jars and lids to a sterilizing temp while heating the food. 😉 Just dive in, my dear. Start with a simple recipe using in season ingredients. And...don't ever be afraid to ask questions. God Bless and good luck. 😘😘
