I think people think I’m fishing for compliments or being very “woe-betide-me” when I tell them that I find it hard to recognise or take compliments about my physical appearance from anyone but family because I was bullied into thinking I’m not attractive enough and how deep that can go. I have a boyfriend now who calls me pretty and cute and beautiful and perfect and I hear the words but I don’t think they really register how they’re supposed to? It actually scares me.

It's called body dismorphia, where you for some reason don't like certain parts of your body but don't really have a reason why. I am a man and am the same way. I've had some women tell me I am attractive, though it's usually my friend's wives so I am assume they are just being nice. I look at my face and don't just see how it's possible for me to have the right combo of hairstyle and beard style to ever look attractive. I have never been able to convince myself that I am attractive.
