I wish I knew this last week. Some client asked me to give cut and fill estimates...so I redirected them to a quantity surveyor😂 (I'm a geotechnical eng myself). But I'm now super glad for this tutorial! Thanks! Question: What if the site is some other shape other than rectangular...say trapezoidal shape? How do we estimate volumes between surfaces? TIA
Hi Sachin. Yes, you can limit the calculation to an area of any shape by drawing the area in a base layer or importing a vector file that defines the area. The accuracy of the volume calculation depends on the resolution of the grid file. The volume is calculated by adding together the volume of each complete grid cell. Hi Qasim, Thank you for your comment! Currently there is not an Oil in place calculation function in Surfer. I have filed a feature request on your behalf to the development team. Golden Software Support
Hi Mohammed, you can view an overview of the features Surfer offers and compare it to civil 3D at this link: www.goldensoftware.com/products/surfer If you have more specific questions our support team would love to answer them. I want to calculate volume of parabolic soccer dish shape area. Can we calculate it by this software? What is the accuracy of volume ?
