Any thoughts on this filter after you've had it for a while? I've been considering getting one for a nano tank so that I don't have to have a visible heater in the tank. I'd love to hear your thoughts after using it for some time.
As chance would have it I'm working from home and sitting right next to it as i write this. Its dead quiet. The tank is doing really really well. I have only cleaned it all the way once but the seal seem fine with no leaks, the heater works as expected. Hope this helps!
Adding the heater to the filter is a great idea. I might get their hang-on-back version for my next tank if I can figure out where to buy it. Just having one intake tube in the aquarium is super appealing.
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I am still a newbie, and have only used HOB, internal and sponge filters. Your video showing how to set up a canister has been INVALUABLE!!! Thanks again!
I have 2 of those filters one has been running nonstop for over 2 years and like the rest of my canister filters have never been cleaned yet. I don't clean my canister filters until I see a sign that something is wrong like slowing in flow or nitrate built up... Great filter!!
I have this filter on my 29 gallon for roughly 6 months now. It has been great. Temperature in tank is consistent. Cleaned it last week for the first time. Cleaning was easy. Definitely recommend filling with water before you put the lid on. Prevents water spilling out. Keeps water clear and nitrates stay low. Plenty of flow for my 29.
I love this filter for small tanks! I use biomaster on all my larger. I pulled one sponge out and added all the bio rings. It is what is running on my Aquashella tank for Orlando this year!
Thank you so much for your helpful video This is the best video I've had hands down about this filter. I cleaned out my filter and couldn't get it to start. I was so frustrated and your video helped so much!! Thank you thank you thank you!
I had just ordered an Oase Biomaster for a custom 60gallon tank I’m in the process of ordering, but was curious to see what these ones were like. I have a lot of smaller tanks that would suit this model, so great timing. Thanks for the detailed video Pecktec
OMG, I burst out laughing when the instructions went flying! LOL!! I've actually been considering one of these for my 11 gal 'Shallow' tank; so looking forward to the upcoming review.
I got a question to you. I only have shrimps and this pump is going only for dwarf shrimps. Any advice for not sucking the poor suckers in and having enough capacity to filter?
Yeah they sell foam pre-filters that work well for keeping them out of there. You can get them cheep online. You can put them where the water comes out also if you need to slow it down for a betta or something also.
Fantastic video ,,,, Also its a great little filter . Bio gravel would be my choice of filter media in the filter . Also when you have the time i would add Ehiem quick disconnect valves on to the tubing. Allowing you easy disconnection for maintenance . and re priming when you reopen the valves to start up the filter again . Take care All the best from across the pond . R
Nice indept coverage. One question, do you need to fill the filter up? Because i saw another video and the guy said that you can just put it on and it works.
Hello my 80L starter line aquarium with Tetra easy crystal 600 internal filter with 100w heater pre set to 25 degrees, I recently ordered an oase filtersmart200 and want to put the heater inside the filter . Since the heater will now be outside the tank I was wondering if it will lose efficiency, which ones would you recommend from the ones listed? Heater 100w, 150w,200w?
Hi bud, ive just got a thermo 100 for a 87ltr open top tank, I'm using stainless steel pipe for look. I can't seem to get the temps up, the filter is primed but it just can't heat the water beyond 22 degrees C. Heater had already been replaced so now scratching my head. Got it set for 28 now so it's well off the requirement.
I have the Thermo 250. It don't have ceramic but plastic media . It does have trays and the clean out sponge which I do like. I also love the heater not being in the tank. Also a priming button.
Watched you and Dr. Kevin Novak. I watched you make your BCP basket. Placed my kitty litter and laterite inside a couple of 2 x 4 inch nylon bags. It's only been about two weeks but their size works great inside the Tidal 55 HOB. Looks like a good cannister filter for smaller aquariums. Setting up a 75 gal. with a Oase Biomaster Thermo 350 hopefully today. I may use this filter on a 20 gal with an under gravel to set up the anoxic filtration system. Been following you and Dr. Novak.
If anyone could answer this, I would surely appreciate it! Is there any reason not to remove the second partition and have the whole bottom full of seachem matrix? then maybe a Purigen on top of the bio media and finally some filter floss around the return pump? In other words does the divider over by the heater actually direct the flow in an important way or can I just do away with it? Also, is this something I could put on a shelf just above my (less than 12" above the water line) nano tank? That would be awesome..... just not sure if it would work! TY in advance for your help!!!!
I have a 20 long with perforated dividers for 3 Bettas. I don't want to use a small filter in each section. I was looking at something like this to pull water from 1 end of the tank to the other. Can you suggest something that would work for me? Also considering a fluval 107.
Thank you for the detailed review, I have been looking for a small canister filter and after your review I am going to with Oase even though it's small it does have some of the features as the larger canister filters. I'm not sure I will go with or without the heater option, some of the reviews I read mentioned the heater was not that accurate. What are your thoughts on the performance of the heater? I had to laugh a few times when you dropped parts on the floor, forgot parts and spilled the water, that is classic me. Thank you, again great job!
Nope but it’s got the stuff to hang it up so you can check it out before you run it. After that it’s probably best to just monitor the temperature with a thermometer.
Sorry if I missed it but do you have an update on this filter? Also, looking to replace the HOB on a 20g long. Do you think this is powerful enough for the length or would the 200 be better? This would be my first canister filter so I’m still learning these guys but these with a built in heater are pretty appealing.
I cannot justify the cost of Oase' canister filters being twice the price of the competition. I like the small size of that canister though; in the past I have had difficulty fitting some canisters in the stand. I have also had difficulty with priming some canister filters even with the pump, LOL. Nice to see it start right up!
Can you put a less powerful heater inside for example can the 50w oase heater be placed into the same slot without DIY work? My tank will be 43 litres so don't need such an energy consuming heater.
I know this video is already a year old but thank you so much for the detailed information. I have been using sponge filters for quite some time now and have considered placing a canister on my 20 gallon guppy tank. This is the one I was looking at and will be giving it a try! I think this will give me some conslusive information before forking out a huge amount of money to filter my 2 - 55 gallon tanks.
Very nice unboxing and setup video, congrats. Can this filter work for a 30 liter nano with a betta fish? Adjusted to minimum in and out. I like that it has the heater included, it frees space in the tank.
Thanks for the video Sean! I’ve been considering switching from hob to canister filter on my 29g. I have an AC50 on it currently and my Monte Carlo carpet looks amazing everywhere except where the water flows back into the tank from the hob. It struggles there a lot for some reason and I keep the tank filled up a lot so it’s not a giant waterfall flowing into the tank. Curious if a canister would solve my problem having the flow directed differently
It's good that it doesn't come with baskets. They only take up precious space that could be use for the filter media. Overall a good filter however its shape is kinda wasteful, it should just be rectangular.
@@pecktec Thanks for replying. Also - What is the height after the pipes are attached to the filter? I have 13” space inside cabinet I’m wondering if it’s enough.
I recently got this filter and Im noticing the heater doesn't do a great job heating my 10 gallon long tank. I have it set to 80 and my thermometer is showing 72 degrees. I made sure to check that the heater works and it does , I dont think its getting much flow with how the layout is. How was your experience with the heater element?
@@pecktec thank you for this thorough unboxing, i’ll get it based on your video and reply 🙏 even with its inconveniences, its the cheapest canister with heater for me at the moment
No flow adjustment without the use of that supplied adaptor is bad. I’m very sure a lot of people will be using a glass pipe, so now there’s no way to adjust the flow :s.
I have 1 of these 100s as well as a 200. Both of them would suck air at times. To fix that smear some petroleum jelly around the gasket. Otherwise they did the job…
ive never had a canister filter that eventually didnt let me down. I find they are more work than they are worth not matter how infrequent you clean them. Sponge filters and HOB for me
having tried numerous different canister filters, the Fluval FX6 is the only one I could recommend. The design is bulletproof and never let me down in 5 years, on a heavily stocked 90 gallon tank I only had to clean it every three months. Tried pennplax cascade, noisy, poor construction and lots of blowby Hydor, great filtration and whisper quiet, but the internal seal failed resulting in 20 gallons of water on the floor. Nat Geo, great little canister filter for $90, ran it for 4 years no problems, sadly discontinued but I think it was a rebranded Eheim.
Oase bought Eden, an italian company that designed this filter and sold for the half the price. Except for the heater, any Eheim or Fluval filter is better option. Regards

you will need to prime it most of the time. I can see a scenario where it may suck the water down. But I hate running the pump dry.
The little clear hose is for keeping air from building up.

Thanks Sean. Looks ok but the Oase Biomaster Thermo is outstanding if that filter is ever an option. Love the detail in your commentary.
You can use a small usb fountain pump hooked up to a hose that fits into the inflow to push water into the filter to prime it.

Yeah a spray bar especially would help. It’s a big benefit of a canister being able to have more control of flow. Where it’s going and how much.
That short tubing in the impeller compartment is to bleed trapped air.
Very well done sir
I wonder if you could just pour water into the canister to prime it before you put the top back on after doing maintenance.

Usually silicone tubes last a long time. However, if overexposed to UV light, it will deteriorate resulting in brittleness requiring a replacement.
Thanks.
What size are the tubes?
Magnetic driven impeller?
