This epic voyage will finally prove that we can successfully build platforms to explore the ocean depths and make new discoveries here on earth about our own water planet. This is a human achievement not unlike going to the moon. Good Luck to this adventure as this has many inherent risks and many greater rewards. I watched Trieste in amazement when I was 8 and have always wished we could have learned more. Perhaps a new horizon is in view.

no the pressure limits the size of the sphere of the actual operation area. if they make it bigger it will be impossible to remove the sub from the water and not only that it'll cost more to make. if u looked at the thickness of the sphere in 1:34 the whole command center is surrounded with about 8-10 inch thick steel. the green sub you see is just the other parts like arms lights and propellers being controlled by the sphere.

It really doesn't require an amazingly sophisticated machine. A bathysphere (which is what this is), is a pretty simple one. No doubt the life support, lighting, electrical, coms etc are of a later & better tech than the 50's Trieste but essentially its the same thing.
The machine isn't amazing, what's amazing is how extreme that environment is. Also why haven't any marine institutes done this since??
