“Of course I’m worried. Worry is a good thing for an explorer. I think it’s when you’re cavalier…when you take risk for granted…that’s when you’re gonna get bit”. Amazing quote considering what just happened.
Mr Cameron you are an amazing director, amazing screenwriter and amazing explorer. Thank you for sharing your creative thoughts on film with the entire world. Godspeed Mr Cameron.
Do the viewers of this video even realize the amount of technical perfection that sub requires, it's at the freaking top of the oceanic tectonic plate, that's all the amount of water ontop of him putting an enormous gigantic amount of pressure on him. One minute of silence for the awesomeness of this dude.
"Of course I'm worried; Worry is a good thing when you're an explorer. I think when you're cavalier, when you take risk for granted... JC literlly said "Of course I am worried; it is when you aren't worried and are cavalier is when you are gonna get hit." PROPHETIC WORDS by JC (no, no... not Jesus Christ; James Cameron!)

Only 4 people have been there: Don Walsh & Jacques Piccard (Jan 1960), James Cameron (March 2012) and Victor Vescovo (April & May 2019). Already in 1960 a Rolex wristwatch sat on the outside of the Bathyscaphe and worked flawlessly during 9 hours dive, another Rolex in 2012 during 4 hours adventure...
This epic voyage will finally prove that we can successfully build platforms to explore the ocean depths and make new discoveries here on earth about our own water planet. This is a human achievement not unlike going to the moon. Good Luck to this adventure as this has many inherent risks and many greater rewards. I watched Trieste in amazement when I was 8 and have always wished we could have learned more. Perhaps a new horizon is in view.
It's extremely difficult creating a Submarine that can withstand those pressures at the bottom of the trench, making it larger would only make it more difficult.
James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron. -James Cameron
no the pressure limits the size of the sphere of the actual operation area. if they make it bigger it will be impossible to remove the sub from the water and not only that it'll cost more to make. if u looked at the thickness of the sphere in 1:34 the whole command center is surrounded with about 8-10 inch thick steel. the green sub you see is just the other parts like arms lights and propellers being controlled by the sphere.
Is there any way to get messages to Mr. Cameron or to get updates on how he is doing? May the Lord keep Mr. Cameron in the palm of his hand, for his boat is so small and the sea is so great. God speed, James, and a safe voyage home.
It really doesn't require an amazingly sophisticated machine. A bathysphere (which is what this is), is a pretty simple one. No doubt the life support, lighting, electrical, coms etc are of a later & better tech than the 50's Trieste but essentially its the same thing. The machine isn't amazing, what's amazing is how extreme that environment is. Also why haven't any marine institutes done this since??
@mahballzrhari "communications with the surface will be difficult they may be spotty we may not even have voice communication" from 0:40 meaning no robots because they couldn't be controlled
@MKOutland lol you misunderstood, in fact, i'm a huge fan of James! I was just saying that now i'm gonna need do re-write a few parts, because until now, the last dive on Marina trench was 1960, now i'm gonna need update that information. This dive won't mess up my book! xD
@TheAliyev It depends where you live. I live on Guam where the ship that has the submarine in it. For us on Guam I believe that James Cameron will dive on Monday and at the Mainland (the states) will be on Tuesday.
Oooops ... my bad fault: 1) it was late night 2) I was brought here by a chain of Titanic sink videos 3) the title doesn't state "mariana trench" anywhere (though it's in description ... that I read now) Sorry everyone for stupid comment.

The pressure inside the sub was kept at a reasonable level. It isn't like scuba, where you have ALL of the pressure of the water pushing on you.
