USAID Programs in Ukraine -- Presentation by Regional Mission Director Jed Barton

- E. Jed Barton is the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Regional Mission Director for Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Cyprus. A Senior Foreign Service Officer with a rank of Counselor, he has served USAID overseas for more than 20 years. As head of the Regional Mission to Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Cyprus, Mr. Barton is responsible for the U.S. Government’s assistance programs in the region - programs that support the region in its transition to a broad-based, market-oriented democracy.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Barton served as Deputy Mission Director for Strategic Planning at USAID/Afghanistan, helping to administer the largest and most-complex bilateral assistance program in the 50-year span of the agency while managing a staff of 330 people.
From August 2005 to June 2011, Mr. Barton was USAID’s Regional Controller in Egypt. In this capacity, he established the agency’s largest overseas financial service center.
Mr. Barton joined USAID as a Foreign Service Officer in August 1989. He previously worked as Regional Controller at USAID/Peru, Controller for USAID/Nepal, Deputy Controller at USAID/Bolivia, and Financial Management Officer in USAID’s East Africa regional center. He received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing, with minors in Accounting and Spanish, from Utah State University. Mr. Barton is married and has four children.
