    I would love to see 5 level 0 cards from EotE to upgrade into their EotE investigator’s second class. Cards that really epitomise their investigator, so a Level 3 Guardian Dragon Pole for example.

    I think a fun upgrade for Toe to Toe would be to make the damage you deal to the enemy scale with the hit you took. Something like "This attack deals +X damage, where X is the total horror and damage you took as the result of the chosen enemy's attack."

    I'd love to see Hired Muscle and Treasure Hunter level 2 upgrades (maybe multiclass?) that have text essentially adding "you can upgrade this card into any other ally". That way you could upgrade your deck with them with the intent to replace them with high xp allies later in a campaign. It kind of fits their theme and alternative upgrade paths is something AHLCG hasn't really explored.

    • @fredfredrickson5436

      That's an excellent idea. I often think this would be a good way to give Guardian more definition too, with seperate permanents that allowed you to switch between allys, weapons, or events during upgrades in the same way.

    Trusted Upgrade could have a subtitle like the Precious memento and be called
    Trusted: Blessed Bond (2)
    Same text, but add "When you reveal a Bless or the elder sign token, exhaust Trusted and heal 1 damage or horror from the attached asset"
    Or something similar.
    Edit: Resource Ritual Candles would be sick

    I'm down with the idea of revealing additional tokens for benefits. Seems like a good amount of existing design space fits into that shell. Benefits could include reduced costs (action or resource), additonal rewards (extra clue, damage, card, health on ally, ammo, etc), or other game effects (story cards come to mind).

  • @fredfredrickson5436
    @fredfredrickson5436 Месяц назад +1

    1/ Tool Belt needs an upgrade that at least makes it more compatible with Dissection Tools & Hawkeye Folding Cam.
    2/ An upgraded Intrepid could get an extra willpower icon and have leads placed on it determined by over-success, which would then allow it to stick around longer (at the end of the round remove a lead, or dicard Intrepid.)
    3/ An enhanced Premonition that seals three tokens which are then released in an order of your choosing during successive tests would be great.
    4/ Kukri (2) can only be included in your deck as a replacement for a lower level Kukri, it swings for +2, if a symbol is revealed during ths test you may redeem the activation cost of this attack. After this attack resolves you may spend an additonal action to do one point of damage to an enemy at your location, or if the attack was successful, exhaust Kukri to do two points of damage to the enemy just attacked.

  • @Mystrich
    @Mystrich Месяц назад +2

    With trusted, instead of returning the ally to the hand, I think giving a refund would help. Guardian economy is still awful when it comes to resources - meanwhile their allies are one of their biggest expenses. Your cost 5 Grete and Brother Xavier revolve around taking damage/dying. What if you gave them +1 Health / Sanity AND when they die, gain resources equal to the cost to play them.

  • @davidandersson7642

    Really really love the design ideas for Mystic token fishing. That's a great idea to draw more tokens (higher risk of negative modifiers) in order to gain benefits. Very cool.

  • @camipco
    @camipco Месяц назад

    I wonder if Connect the Dots would be viable with the same cost but less conditionality. For example, even if the second sentence was "Play when you discover a clue at your location" or "Play at a location with no clues" - those would make it significantly more likely to work in the hunch deck but might make it viable elsewhere too. Or how about all the way - how about just "4: Fast, discover 2 clues" - a double Working a Hunch. Obviously incredible in Joe. But worth a couple of xp?

  • @zachfisher3364
    @zachfisher3364 Месяц назад +2

    Using the bottom action of Knife as a kill spell is very similar to how forsee works in MTG. Set something down to trigger later.
    It would be cool to get a few more cards like this, but obviously designed with this style of play in mind. Perhaps an upgraded knife gives a static +1 boost only while fighting to replace the top ability.

    • @fredfredrickson5436
      @fredfredrickson5436 Месяц назад

      I'd like an investigator that gets to include four copies of Knife in their deck.
      I like the diverging/cross-over upgrades. But it would be cool if you could only include an upgraded version as a replacement for a neutral version (this new upgrade vector could even be used to make cards like Kukri tempting.)
      Making Knife sticky, like Hatchet, is another obvious design option for an upgraded Knife's bottom action.

    • @zachfisher3364
      @zachfisher3364 Месяц назад

      @fredfredrickson5436 What do you mean about upgrades that replace the neutral version? Doesn't upgrading always replace the card from your deck?

    • @fredfredrickson5436
      @fredfredrickson5436 Месяц назад

      @zachfisher3364 What I meant in this case is, you could ONLY add an upgraded version if your deck contained a level zero version at the end of the previous scenario. I mentioned Kukri, because it's an extreme example of a level zero card that never sees play because it's so poor, but there are plenty of others. So, if you applied a mechanism like this, you could reward the challenge of carrying, what is at the moment, level 0 binder fodder with the compensation of a really good value upgraded pay-off card. Doing this with parallel versions that cross classes might add an additional characterful motif that solidifies the theme of the mechanism.

    • @zachfisher3364
      @zachfisher3364 Месяц назад

      @fredfredrickson5436 For that type of mechanic, it would need to be a Guardian version of the Researched mechanic perhaps. Where killing a certain amount of creatures with the lvl 0 Kukiri will unlock the upgraded version. Otherwise you could just put the lvl 0 in, not use it for anything but the committed symbols for a scenario, then upgrade it out at the first opportunity for the better card.

    • @fredfredrickson5436
      @fredfredrickson5436 Месяц назад

      @zachfisher3364 I hear what you're saying, but the implementation of the mechanism would be really clunky that way, because you'd be stipulating what is yet to be determined by a future deck inclusion. Of course, these kinds of cards could be reformatted and reiterated, which I actually think would be a warmly welcomed addition to a reformatted Return To style product, alongside hard-copies of nailed down parallel investigators and taboos. But if you're going to reiterate a card, you might as well just fix the original (I'd love to fix a card like Blackjack too, for example.) However, coming back to the original point, carrying the fodder card would be a handicap in itself, whether played or committed, baring in mind that if you didn't upgrade it at the first opportunity, that handicap would compound. Whatever the case, it just seems a shame to me that, at the moment, cards like these are nothing more than dead placeholders.
      I agree that mission/reward style Guardian events would be another way to build more character into the class, though. As Guardian has become easily the most creatively neglected class in the game.

  • @Yrevnoc
    @Yrevnoc Месяц назад +1

    I will defend recent Guardian designs as it's my favourite class.
    In the last two expansions they got Cleaning Kit, Ancestral Token, Hunters Armor, Breach the Door, Field Agent, Bestow Resolve, Task Force, Ofuda and Eyes of Valusia. I think each of those cards to different extents represents new design space the class is playing in, and multiple of them have created new archetypes for the class.
    Runic Axe is a very different take on weapon design, that's not like any other card in the game.
    And then aside from the cards mentioned before they got individually sick cards like Girish, Guard Dog (2), One in the Chamber, Ever Vigilant (4), two very unique Investigators in Carson and Wilson, as well as the best suite of customizable cards.

      I actually knew that you would respond because I know you are a big Guardian fan. What if the second action of knife could be a reaction to an enemy spawning at your location?
    Or maybe even as a fast action that can only be done during your turn?
    Essentially making it an event that you front load the action cost to be redeemed later on the scenario.

    I think Connect the Dots becomes more interesting when you consider the taboo to Shed a Light and people still consider it to be strong. Shed a Light gets 3 testless clues for 2 coins and 2 experience. Connect the Dots get 2 testless clues for 4 coins. Not saying Connect the Dots is great but maybe Shed a Light is overcosted now? Personally, I would trade 2 coins for 2 experience in most situations.

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  Месяц назад

      If you look at just the numbers on the cards you're getting close, but you have to factor in more comparing the two. Connect the Dots requires you to leave clues on a low shroud location and instead get clues another way on a high shroud location, Shed a Light does the opposite. Shed the Light is active and is the reason you're getting clues, Connect the Dots is reactive (reactive cards are generally less consistent than active cards). Shed a Light is used in tandem with Old Keyring 3, which is part of the reason the test at 0 is disgusting and consistent.
      I think Shed a Light is more fairly costed, but I don't like looking at just the numbers for card evaluation, because the numbers often don't tell the full story.

    • @ren6175
      @ren6175 Месяц назад

      @@PlayingBoardGames Fair point. You can't compare them in vacuum. Although Old KeyRing 3 and Shed a Light costs quite a bit of experience now. So that isn't really apples to apples.
