  • Bad playoff games are common in the NBA. From Nikola Jokic (The Denver Nuggets) to Anthony Edwards (The Minnesota Timberwolves), the NBA has seen it's fair share this playoff season. Even the NBA Finals teams - Luka Doncic (The Dallas Mavericks) and Jayson Tatum (The Boston Celtics) have had some stinkers. But how does this happen and how should we process them? Also, we cover Boston Celtics future odds and JJ builds his best current NBA team around Larry Bird.

In the eyes of 98% of nba fans, Tatum has never actually had a good playoff game. To fit their narrative, they completely ignore some of his huge games where he single handedly saved his team from elimination.

@@senorstronkmaybe in years past, I can see at times where he would settle for threes but that was years ago. He has 4-5 other players that can score 20 plus points on any given night, the team doesn’t need him shooting and scoring all their points, he plays defense, he rebounds, he is passing better then ever, he’s hustling, I would much rather a guy play hard on all aspects of basketball, rather then a guy that scores 35 but doesn’t exert himself on other areas of the game. People that bash Tatum are box score warriors that only look at the field goal percentage, and points and nothing else

21.5 PPG FG: 37%, 65% FT 4 TO . He also disappeared during multiple games in a series where the Celtics were supposed to be the better team(favored, more talent etc). I agree he has a lot to prove in these finals but you should also include context on these stats. He just turned 24 at the time against the best rated defense in the league while playing with a broken wrist. He was also in his first finals against a team that had been to 6 finals in 8 years. People also always seem to remember that he played bad in the finals but don't give him credit for completely outplaying Kevin Durant, scoring 46 to keep his team alive in game 6 against Milwaukee, and playing a good series against Miami.

Idc what the circumstances are you can’t expect any team to win by 20 consistently…..so I just laugh when ppl criticize Boston l for not winning big enough- a team that actually did hold a 20 point lead in just abt half of their games all szn!

the hate is probably cuz of the inconsistency. it’s not that JT hasn’t had a great game it’s cuz when we expect him to have a big game in the playoffs it’s like he vanished or didn’t do what we expected him to do. but when we didn’t expect him to have a big game he suddenly had it going on. no hate for him tho but for all the time I watched him play in the playoffs there are times where the media and us put a pressure on him on a certain game in the playoffs and most of those time he comes of underperform tho. and what i mean is that tho he probably perform greatly in terms of a star caliber, JT for us is a superstar, so even tho he probably had like 24/5/5 in that game we and the media see it as an underperformed game cuz we held him high so much. and we need to understand that not all the hate comes from nothing, it’s probably that fans got really tired when he got a game that is just good when we expect him to be great.

take Luka for example there are games where we really put pressure on him in the playoffs. and most of those times he did put a great performance. tho i’m not saying that he hasn’t had bad games but what i’m trying to say is that when the media put a pressure of him, the likelihood of him embracing that pressure and have a great game is better than tatum in terms of a superstar kinda of performance. not to mention tatum has been in a lot of ecf and 2 finals already so whether we like it or not fans is bound to have certain superstar expectations of him when fans expected him to have that superstar performance type of game.

This video is to stop the Tatum and Celtics hate. They have went through the weak east that is weaker than even when Lebron was beating all those teams. He lost to a 8 seed Miami heat and jimmy butler outplayed Tatum and brown. It’s not like players are immune to bad games. They all have them. But what about having them in the biggest moments and biggest series and games. Only way to look at it positively is they are way ahead of the curve and all this experience will help them. They are either going to be the buffalo bills who went to 4 straight super bowls and never won or the Utah jazz of the 90s. Or they are about to learn from all the failures and be one of the best dynasties that ever existed by everyone’s projections from learning from failures and being ahead of the curve.

The unfortunate truth is there's only so few games to differentiate between the all time greats from those that aint. Professional sports is a cutthroat business, all who make it are great but how you play in big spots defines your career.

Jayson Tatum playoff performances get chopped up because he's boring to watch, and we tire of seeing him compared to the ELITE players. He's nowhere close to Luka, Jokic, Embiid, KD, Lebron and and Giannis AT ALL. Yet he's forced on us. That's why he gets dissected.
