All the GBA and DS games are good. I like Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin best. OoE is pretty good though, and also the last of that series of games. They haven't made a good Castlevania since OoE.

Aria and Dawn are amongst my favourites. Dawn also has a patch to remove the touchscreen elements, making it easily playable in emulators on a big screen. Not having to faff with the seals or ice blocks etc makes the game vastly more enjoyable.
Dawn of Sorrow was actually my first Castlevania ever! Man, the name alone carries this nostalgic rush of countless hours spent on my DS as a young'in!
Even makes playing on a DS way better. The touchscreen garbage was my third biggest issue with Dawn, the other two being art style and the garbage plot (yes I play CV partially for the story lel)
SotN has 2 of the all time greatest WTF bosses: the Granfalloon (excellent Vonnegut reference), a giant brain who sheds clay zombie people at you, and my personal favorite, Beezlebub [sic], a 30-foot tall rotting corpse you have to destroy piece by piece. Of course, the corpse doesn’t attack you, but the hice of bees taking residence in him do. Definitely 2 of them most creatively grotesque bosses I’ve ever fought.
I have this game’s opening dialogue memorized, it’s great. The whole game is just a blast and the change to the game’s style really helped both to set it apart and help create a new genre. It’s soundtrack is legendary, and it’s cutscenes are fun to watch. If I’m playing a Castlevania game it’s probably this one.
first of all, this rework is a port of the PSP Rondo of Blood Remake called "Dracula X Chronicles". within the remake, you can unlock the SotN thts present in the PS4 Version, and the classic Rondo of Blood and the mini-game. so if you want a fun way to unlock these games, i'd say play the PSP Remake of Rondo of Blood. you wont regret it.
It's kind of a shame that the ps4 version is just a port of the PSP one, with the technically better but overall bland dub and different Maria mode. Wish they had somehow combined the Saturn music, and Maria mode, but keep the areas and stuff (especially the hilarious dub) the same as the ps1 version. Would've been the definitive version easily

It was great to see you re-complete Symphony of the Night AND Rondo of Blood. The effort you put into completing games is greatly appreciated. I think your decision to take your time with Symphony of the Night, was the correct one, I feel you should do the same with really big/long games. Especially ones that require multiple playthroughs, like Dragon Age: Origins or Persona. Looking forward to seeing you tackle and conquer Lords of Shadow.
After watching your recent vid about how you are having a tough time right now on YT.... This video is one of the best I have seen from you. I think whatever you did here was less about "appealing to everyone" and more your own thing. Not sure why, but I dug this one more. Thanks Jirard. Keep your head up.
So, I JUST finished the PS1 version of SotN for the first time before watching this, and I personally love it as much as you do. My first Castlevania was Aria of Sorrow, folled by the other two GBA titles and Dawn of Sorrow, and I have to say that Symphony encapsulates almost all of the things I love about them. I feel like if access to it had come along a little earlier in my life it could easily hold my #1 favourite Castlevania game, but Aria edges it out a little bit for nostalgia value (and also Somachrist, praise him)
I was just watching the end of castlevania on Netflix when this came up. I thought, “Hmm, should I watch more Castlevania or maybe try something else? Hell no! Give me that back step, give me that ability to change into different animals, given me that whip!” Great video as always.

I’m hoping that all the Castlevanias will eventually come to switch/switch 2 and other platforms. Great episode Jirard! But what really struck me the most about this video was that badass thumbnail! Never did I think Alucard needed a beard but oh how wrong I was.
Great video Jirard! I actually saw it in my "Recommended" feed for the first time in forever despite watching most of your videos. You did have a couple of errors with what you said near the beginning. Rondo of Blood was an PC Engine CD-Rom game (what we know as the TurboGrafx for those of you reading the comments) and we didn't see it specifically until the PSP Dracula X Chronicles release (in its original form too). The SNES Dracula X is mostly a port of that game but is only somewhat faithful and not the same game (after watching further you mentioned the SNES version being a port). Also, you are introduced and can even play as Alucard in Castlevania 3. Which is also the game that the Netflix series is pulling characters from as it has Trevor, Sypha and Alucard along with a character named Grant. And in the original SotN for the Saturn, you could play as Maria which is most likely what the PSP port of the game is based on rather than the PS1 version of the game.
i wouldn't agree with the statement that Richer is easier than Maria. Maria has an invincibility spell that lasts for 40 seconds or something. Enough time to get your MP back to cast it again, and most certainly enough time to reach a save room or clear whatever danger lies in front of you. She also has spells that heavily damage bosses. Richter is a glass cannon on the other hand. Mess up his spin slash and you are dead.
Nice you’ve completed the game again dude! I still consider this (and Super Castlevania) the best game in the series. I DO recommend another game of this style, BloodStained! It has it’s flaws (mostly Glitches) but it’s a great spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night!!
I'm sorry you've been having trouble with your channel. Thank you for continuing to publish great stuff. I've been watching you for years and I hope to be watching for many years to come.

Whenever I’m asked to name a legendary, flawless masterpiece of a game, I always say” Castlevania: Symphony of the Night”. (Ps. I don’t think anybody ever asked me that before...so I made that whole story up. But I WOULD say it😁)
I am working my way through Symphony of the Night at the moment though my favorite Castlevania game is 100% Aria of Sorrow. I love the game and have so many fond memories as a kid playing it. I would love to see it completed as I have been trying to for awhile and just don't have the chops that you do!
SOTN is still a great game. Played through it first time two years ago. Did not expect much but it ended up becoming my favorite game after Dark Souls 1. One of the best soundtracks of all time, great atmosphere and exploration. The gameplay feels smooth and captivating after you get the hang of it. The only downsides that I can think of are the inventory menu and difficulty that never feels quite right - Alucard essentially becomes a god after a while.
I've played this game for Halloween every year for last 20 years with some Halloween candy and red wine, it never gets old, it's just gets better with time
This is one of those games that's kind of like that song you love, but you've heard 1000 times. It's still great, but you know it so well that you can almost hear each note before it happens and it all starts to blend together.
It's awesome to see that Jirard is almost halfway done with the first 128. I've played SotN back in 2011 on 360, but didnt complete the game until eariler this year, strangely enough a few days before Jirard
I'm still working on my lvl 71 save file for PS1. I pop it in when I'm really bored. It's fun to give yourself limitations, like turning off double jump and etc. Plus, I'm still working on maxing that Muramasa and Badelaire. A part of me thinks that there is another old secret hiding somewhere... I've gone outside the castle walls in the Chapel for extra map %, but not the Outer Wall. I'm still searching for a level up method that is fun, since at a certain level no matter what you kill counts as 1xp. Either that or you have so much xp that your gains barely register on your stat screen. Oh well. Happy playing!
SotN definitely deserves the acclaim it gets, but I feel like the portable games get passed up far too often. Aria of Sorrow is just as strong, and the DS games are no slouches either.
I’ve just recently gotten into playing the Metroidvania games. Believe it or not it was Hollow Knight that made me hungry for more of the genre. I grew up playing all the linear Castlevanias. In the last month I’ve played Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow. Trying to hint down the rest! Stay safe and healthy. Thank you for the great videos. 🙂❤️
I love me some SotN and it's effect on future Castlevania games can't be disputed, but the tv show pulls from Castlevania 3 more than anything else. Also, how great is that soundtrack.

Dope! Sick awesome! When Richter does those uppercut jumps, I think of that funny Smash Collab bit hehe. This vid was tight. Looks good, and it sounds like this game experience is very dear to you. I'm glad you savored the flavor. Well done video, TOVG Crew!
I'm glad there's finally a video on this masterpiece
You should watch me stream it :D
When Alucard popped up with a beard after the video I started to laugh very hard! Thank you Completionist! I've actually already completed this game after your first video, but it was nice to watch something new on this game again!
My favorite game of all time! Well this and Secret of Evermore! Another banger! Cheers
Same.
You should watch me stream it :D
This is awesome because I literally going through my first ever playthrough of SotN on my phone AND I bought the collection on PS4. Keep up the great work, Jirard.
This is the first time in a long while that your video's been shown to me. Hopefully this means RUclips is finally getting their stuff together
I’m a huge Castlevania fan, and Symphony is the Castlevania game I’ve 100% the most, and I love this game to pieces. I’m hoping that all the Castlevanias will eventually come to switch/switch 2 and other platforms. I’d love to see you complete the other Castlevanias, like Aria/Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, circle of the moon, Harmony of dissonance, lament of innocence, etc.
2:10 I see you, meat in the wall!
Lmao wtf why was this so funny 😂
Chicken...in the walls...

@@Nectalaz I was referencing Sequelitis, I don't know what YOU were referencing.
@@apollolux Pretty obscure reference seeing how it's not a game grumps video or egoraptor video but now I remember it. And I was just being that one person on the internet who needs to correct everyone
Great episode Jirard! But what really struck me the most about this video was that badass thumbnail! Never did I think Alucard needed a beard but oh how wrong I was.
Hell yes, been waiting for this one!
Nice pfp!
@@mimmikibilly thank you lol
1:08 This aged well
I've got to say that Symphony Of The Night, is what Castlevania 2 : Simon's Quest was trying to be,
I have played this game over and over that I can remember all of the BGM and monster noises... This game is just a master piece.
This game looks awesome, but Simon Belmont will always be my favorite castlevania character.
It *is* awesome.
agree.
Thank you guys for continuing to publish videos during these difficult times, I appreciate all the hard work you all put into all your videos
God I wish they would put SOTN on steam.
"You will regret those words!
*WE WILLEELLLELLEL MEEEEET AGAYANH!!!* "
SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS COMPLETED!!! YOUVE BEEN NAILING IT WITH THE GAME SELECTION LATELY!!
One of the best games ever. It needs completion.
@@eskanda3434 I can agree. I realized that once I discovered the full power of the shield.
i wouldn't agree with the statement that Richer is easier than Maria.
One of my favorite games of all time.
Same.
Exactly what we need in these dark times. This is absolutely my favorite game of all time. Thank you, Jirard!
“ What is a man?”
Alainis Morrisette: “It’s like ten thousand spoons.”
When AVGN says GET THE KNIFE! Lol
Nice you’ve completed the game again dude! I still consider this (and Super Castlevania) the best game in the series.
I DO recommend another game of this style, BloodStained! It has it’s flaws (mostly Glitches) but it’s a great spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night!!
This game has the greatest soundtrack of all time 💯 used to play it to go to sleep lol
You should watch me stream it :D
I'm sorry you've been having trouble with your channel. Thank you for continuing to publish great stuff. I've been watching you for years and I hope to be watching for many years to come.

@@mammon8683 For the love of God, Simon. What is your deal?
Ever since I was a little kid I always heard about castlevania but never played. At age 15 my first castlevania game was SOTN after that it became my second favorite video game franchise.Resident evil and castlevania are my favorites of all time.
Whenever I’m asked to name a legendary, flawless masterpiece of a game, I always say” Castlevania: Symphony of the Night”.
(Ps. I don’t think anybody ever asked me that before...so I made that whole story up. But I WOULD say it😁)
That's a funny way of spelling "Super Metroid".
Alex Snitzer 🤣🤣🤣
Haha definitely a close second.
@@bones22j funny how the two absolute masterpieces are the Trope Namers for the genre.
OH MY GOD. I literally finished this game 200.6% today, I am so happy you posted this!
wait, maria is playable in this version? finally got out of the saturn it seems.
Different version. Saturn Maria is completely different from psp Maria.
@@alexbubble6952 saturn version she is op af
I am working my way through Symphony of the Night at the moment though my favorite Castlevania game is 100% Aria of Sorrow. I love the game and have so many fond memories as a kid playing it. I would love to see it completed as I have been trying to for awhile and just don't have the chops that you do!
2:29 almost*
season 3 last episode... Never see a orgy , one boy, one girl one boy vampire in any castlevania games.
So your assistant completed the game for you
Glad you finally played Rondo! Now there are two of us sitting here still wishing SNES Drac X had been included in the Requiem collection.
Scamer
Thanks for opening the video with my favorite track in the entire series
I've played this game for Halloween every year for last 20 years with some Halloween candy and red wine, it never gets old, it's just gets better with time
This is one of those games that's kind of like that song you love, but you've heard 1000 times. It's still great, but you know it so well that you can almost hear each note before it happens and it all starts to blend together.
Oh snap Jirard, you bring me back some serious memories my dude. Great job on this by the way.
Omg! I've been super excited to see you complete this game!
Fun fact how well you do in the fight between richter and drac determines how well alucard stats start with.
It's awesome to see that Jirard is almost halfway done with the first 128. I've played SotN back in 2011 on 360, but didnt complete the game until eariler this year, strangely enough a few days before Jirard
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of my all time favorite games. Thanks for doing a review on this amazing masterpiece!
During this quarantine, I decided to pick this up last Friday and beat it Sunday. It's one of the best games ever made!
Thanks for reviewing this game. Thanks for being not politics, not covid 19, not chaos. Great video!
This is the absolute best, hands down, castlevania. Ever. This game desperately needs a remake with the same soundtrack.
SotN definitely deserves the acclaim it gets, but I feel like the portable games get passed up far too often. Aria of Sorrow is just as strong, and the DS games are no slouches either.
I've been meaning to complete this game, I finally should now that I see someone I know playing it again!
Thanks for the Symphony of the Night video! Always doing great work and always worth seeing if the game is worth playing.
Now i want to go and play Symphony of the Night Again.. thanks for cheering me up man week has been kinda draining.
My favorite Castlevania game of all time and my first one that I ever finished
This was my favourite beard bro’s series. I bought this game after watching that
Yeeeeeeessssssssss! I waited years for this episode to come back.
I was replaying this the other day and I weirdly felt nostalgic about a game I first played when I was 15? it honestly warms my soul
Its good to see that you loved a game man! I hope you enjoy the games especially in these plague times.
The Best Castlevania of all Times !!!
Great Work Jirard and Team !!!!!!!
I love me some SotN and it's effect on future Castlevania games can't be disputed, but the tv show pulls from Castlevania 3 more than anything else.
Also, how great is that soundtrack.
