For info on Aussie TV series - I have nothing to do with it - the BEST resource is the Australian Television Information Archive. I used it to find other great series to watch such as Water Rats, Sea Change, Police Rescue, the 510 episode Blue Heelers.
The Australian government only subsidizes series to about the 60 episode mark, that's why you will see many excellent Aussie shows with good ratings canceled after 60 episodes. And Sea Patrol could not be made without the RAN's help.
Episode 55, the last episode of season four was one of the most interesting. Lise McCune and Martin Sacks were everyone's favorite love match for years on Blue Heelers till Lisa left the series in 2000. It's 10 years later and they are reunited on this episode for the first time onscreen. No doubt untold thousands of teary eyed fans tuned in to see once more the pairing of probably the most popular romantic couple in the history of Australian television. Sacks is excellent in this episode as a drug smuggling monster. What happens at the 41:20 mark can easily escape your notice and is an example of excellent writing, acting and directing. It is subtly conveyed that a deeply hurt Kate slept the previous night with Duchy as she was under the impression Flynn had betrayed her both professionally and personally by rejecting her as a potential CO to helm Hammersley. Duchy is a total gent in how he handles Kate's distress, reassuring her that "nothing happened". Nicely played by both actors, the director and the writer.
@SonofthePhantom I'm not trying to be smug or anything. Just thinking about it. We talked about the Bali Bombing issue on the Sea Patrol forums before the episode aired. A lot of people were concerned like you are. But I thought it was done fairly well.
No way! Able Seaman Billy "Spider" Webb was a screw up who almost got his his shipmates killed on many occasions, and Jay Ryan who played him was a terrible actor, his one inane move was a boyish smirk. Other than that I agree with you.
@TalkToTheBlah Unfortunately, I don't think so. My guess is someone else will upload them, but I really don't want to put them on RUclips and get my account deleted. Sorry if that seems selfish.
@SonofthePhantom I guess so, but it's not like it was done in bad taste. Plus, bombing and terrorism in general is a serious issue in today's society, and I guess that's what they were trying to get across. Besides, would they omit gun battles because it would bring back memories of wars? Or asylum seekers because of the boat that sunk? I think everything would bring back a bad memory for someone in the world. I thought the first ep was handled pretty well anyway. But that's just my opinion. :)
Lost all interest in the show after the third season original actress sorry actors rather made this show they were far more realistic and I can say this as an ex-naval lol swain I don’t know. This crew was a joke. This to dad’s character. I would’ve had him booted off the ship so fast his head would have spun
