When I visited Chongqing in August, the locals clarified that the actual inner city-the area featured in most videos-has a population of about 7 million. That was the impression I got too. It’s still a massive and impressive city, but it’s not the 32-million-strong mega-city it’s often portrayed as. The 32 million figure includes the entire Chongqing municipality, which spans a vast area about the size of Austria, encompassing many rural regions and smaller urban clusters. If you look at Google Earth, you’ll notice that the dense architecture seen in the city center isn’t spread uniformly across the entire district. This distinction is often overlooked, leading to some misleading portrayals of Chongqing’s size.

Okay, normally I don't write comments, but this series is awesome. Finally something "new" and exciting. You never really get anything good from China in the media, but to see this from you and also to be shown this "city" is really great :D Please, let there be many more episodes from China :)
Well actually, China does have a great culture and friendly people like other countries, its just that there are issues with their government. Its like that with every country regardless Edit: I am aware I started an entire war in the comment section. I never intended to start a war. I agree with the OP that there are many interesting things about that country. I am aware that of course, China isnt as much as a cyberbunk dystopia that many westerners claim. However, its important to recognize there are problems with the government and that holds true for every country in the world. Maybe yes, you can claim people are satisfied with their government, but as long as they can fullfill their basic needs; they wont question anything else. The reason why other countries are facing opposition from their people is because they let the cracks slip through. I respect your opinion if you think the government is good. After all, it is subjective. However, be mindful and think before you bash on me and say I spread "stereotypes" or immediately compare to the US. I dislike people who act like there are only two sides to the situation - that I have to pick one side and get flammed by the other. I either have to side with one country and attack the other. Its easy for people to shamlessly press the like button on ad hominems and attacks You assume that I side with the US just because I say that, but have you even considered that I disagree with both of their political systems? Have you considered that you can still appreciate a country whilst understanding its flaws? Have you considered that I'm not even from the west at all? Even people from the east do understand there are problems with their government. You act like United States is the only country with big problems, when many countries have problems just as big as the United States. You just never hear about it. Japan may look "kawaii", but it has a toxic work culture and insane levels of perfectionism. South Korea may look amazing, but it has perfectionism problems and corruption from Samsung You also act like western media is the most evil and biased media, but even non-western media is just as biased, but in different ways. My point is that there is no such thing as "best country" or "X country does it better than anyone". Everyone has their good and bad moments and we should hold them to fair standards If someone sugarcoats how good the United States is and someone comments about "how the eastern media is simply too biased". You would obviously disagree, because you seen the homeless and corruption I do agree that the media can be biased at times, but just because they are does not mean legitimate criticism with evidence should be undermined
@@bumblebeegamerreal Please understand that this is a very typical ignorant type of comment made by westerners. The Chinese people are the happiest on earth and happiest with their government, according to surveys done on the ground over many years by western institutions. Chongqing! My hometown, I love this place so much :) Most of the things you showed in the video I didn't even know were unusual, I was so used to it in China.
I lived in China more than 15 years, I was based in Shanghai, great city, and was traveling everywhere. I remember Chongqing, been there twice, first time was impressed by the view on the main group of skyscrapers at night, second time I was scared thinking about an eventual earthquake could happen … I think Chongqing has a very strong vibration but not in the good way …
Right now, I'm extremely frustrated because this is genuinely high-quality content, but it doesn't have enough views and likes. This video deserves more. It even has a storyline 😱
So I did some googling and looking at the map and I think the reason why Chongqing is the largest city is because of the difference of how Tokyo and Chongqing are divided. Greater Tokyo could be classed entirely as a proper city (it's a single continious mass deep inland), but considering how it formed, it's made up of smaller cities. Greater Tokyo in my opinion is still the largest city, but only by 5 million. It's odd how many unknowm 20-30M cities China has
CNN and BBC said: China has no human rights and freedoms. The streets are full of CCTV. Be careful that the Communist Party arrests tourists for no reason. Western media also say that Chinese people love to eat dog meat and bat meat , Be careful if you eat it without knowing it

@@lobospoutany1 The karaoke with and without girls are different business in China. With girls calls "Business karaoke", they for the business guys who want to enjoy the partners. Without girls calls "Mass Sales karaoke“, they for normal people have fun with friends and families. The business karaoke always very expensive, you have to pay a lot for girls and service, arround 2k-3k RMB for one guest as average.
Pete went to a 'business karaoke', which is different from popular karaoke. He needs to pay extra money to those girls because it's like asking them to accompany you to drink, so he has to pay them extra labor costs. This is normal in China
I'm sorry, but its not quite true that Chongqing is thelargest city in the world by population and area. Its because Chongqing is an administrative region that includes a massive area with many rural parts and small towns. When comparing just the urban populations, cities like Tokyo and Shanghai are much larger. Similarly, in terms of the actual urban area, cities like New York and Beijing are bigger. So, while Chongqing's administrative region is indeed vast and populous, its actual urban core isn't the largest by either population or area.
Its a good example of why "largest city" is a meaningless comparison, as what we define as one city is not really consistent. Chongqing and Paris are the polar oppposites. Chongqing administration includes many rural areas as you defined, meanwhile Paris refuses to officially extend (like Berlin for example), thus the official city is deceively small tiny compared to the urban area. And tokyo is a whole another mess
@@HelloOnepiece Considering Berlin already is a citystate, it doesnt make sense to expand as it would then interfere with the state surrounding it. Maybe i misunderstood what you tried to say though.
@@Wolfremmi Thats exactly what I meant though, in case of Berlin they expanded its administrative zone, since this way it was easier to manage workers coming in from nearby villages. In a sense Berlin ate up parts of Branderburg. I think it is the most noticeable in Spandau, where aside from the U bahn line, for everyday people, life is still like in an independent small town.

To be honest, this is a question of urban administrative division. This city is equivalent to a province, with an area of nearly 90,000 square kilometers, which is not considered a city. If divided according to the urban population of the metropolitan area, this city is about 16M
Just out of curiosity, in Brazil there is a city with 159,533 square kilometers. but its population is extremely small due to its location in a region of the Amazon rainforest

You never really get anything good from China in the media, but to see this from you and also to be shown this "city" is really great :D
Please, let there be many more episodes from China :)
Well actually, China does have a great culture and friendly people like other countries, its just that there are issues with their government.
Its like that with every country regardless
Edit: I am aware I started an entire war in the comment section.
Its easy for people to shamlessly press the like button on ad hominems and attacks
You assume that I side with the US just because I say that, but have you even considered that I disagree with both of their political systems? Have you considered that you can still appreciate a country whilst understanding its flaws?
Have you considered that I'm not even from the west at all?
Even people from the east do understand there are problems with their government.
You act like United States is the only country with big problems, when many countries have problems just as big as the United States. You just never hear about it.
Japan may look "kawaii", but it has a toxic work culture and insane levels of perfectionism.
South Korea may look amazing, but it has perfectionism problems and corruption from Samsung
You also act like western media is the most evil and biased media, but even non-western media is just as biased, but in different ways.
My point is that there is no such thing as "best country" or "X country does it better than anyone". Everyone has their good and bad moments and we should hold them to fair standards
If someone sugarcoats how good the United States is and someone comments about "how the eastern media is simply too biased". You would obviously disagree, because you seen the homeless and corruption
I do agree that the media can be biased at times, but just because they are does not mean legitimate criticism with evidence should be undermined
@@bumblebeegamerreal
What's wrong with the government? Is it a bigger problem than the United States?
@@bumblebeegamerreal Please understand that this is a very typical ignorant type of comment made by westerners. Chongqing! My hometown, I love this place so much :) Most of the things you showed in the video I didn't even know were unusual, I was so used to it in China.
I lived in China more than 15 years, I was based in Shanghai, great city, and was traveling everywhere. I remember Chongqing, been there twice, first time was impressed by the view on the main group of skyscrapers at night, second time I was scared thinking about an eventual earthquake could happen … I think Chongqing has a very strong vibration but not in the good way …
Chongqing is not in the earthquake zone, so it is very safe, and Chongqing is the only cyber city on earth at 9:43.

It's odd how many unknowm 20-30M cities China has
Not all of kanto is under Tokyo’s administration
By only 5 million 💀, there are states in usa with less population
Same with India
Chongqing can absorb another 10M people with ease for the next ten years, not sure a good idea though
I think guangzhou should be the no1, with neighbouring huge cities, bcuz they are not divided actually, the city never ends😂
You are really creative with your editing. Good job on the creative transitions!
This video had information, comedy, weird places and everything that makes a great video.

50 $ for a luxury hotel room and 1300 for a karaoke. That says a lor about how weird can china be. Piter best youtube storyteller!
I dont believe those 1300 euro, especially with Pavel, he live in China almost 15 years, I live in China more then 2 year, was on karaoke and we paid around 15 euro for one hour (without girls) I dont know what they did with those girls there, but even if they were a "light girls" so its still tooooo much
@@lobospoutany1 The karaoke with and without girls are different business in China.
Karaoke self is very afordable like this in China. The price dieffrence is the special service and Alcohol.
I believe Peter and his mates drank some very expensive Chinese liquor (Maotai probably) thinking it's just cheap Vodka
And tokyo is a whole another mess
its impossible to make the whole chongqing connected because of the mountains seperating it
@@archorblx1130 Yes, but 70% of the residents live in rural areas, it's not a city.
