I had a C40. Open strings and up up the 7 fret seem ok-ish but anything closer to the 8th to 12th frets especially on G string can totally expose how bad the C40 sounds when you pair it with a better guitar
Hi ty for this comparison but i have a question, what do you think about playibility ? Is alhambra much more better in terms of playability or is it more difficult to play on it ?
Comparison also against a spruce top and a cedar top so kinda hard to judge. I would recommend an Alhambra 3C as a very good first guitar that will take you well into intermediate level before you will yearn for anything better. It’s about €400.
Dear Sir The poor attack makes it difficult to hear. When you get better playing the different will be clear. Try practicing tirando and apoyando - good luck :-)
Played both and I wonder what made you choose a comparison of thes two totaly different guitars, Alhambra has teh best sound hands down but it's a concert guitar and the Yamaha is a starter learning guitar.
I understand fully what you are doing here.A lot of these comments are rude and immature. To me the Yamaha sounds just about as good as the more expensive guitar.
Donny brown I’m happy to see that some people do see the point. Some other people are somewhat blinded with their love of big names super expensive guitars that surely sound good but not as good for the price IMHO. In my opinion you can go a long way with this laminated top 100$ Yamaha guitar and it’s 10 times worth every penny you pay for it. Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated.
All solid wood guitars will improve with age.An Alhambra 7C from the 1980's just sold on Ebay for £240(less than $300!) Solid Cedar Top,Solid Mahogany Back and Sides,in mint condition. If your a beginner buy a quality second hand all solid wood classical guitar, for some reason in the UK second hand they are fetching a fraction of the original retail prices, especially now the £ has collapsed in value. It will be a good investment at current UK prices!
John Renshaw You're absolutely right here. If you can get an all solid for a fraction of the price I see no reason why to not go for it. It's surely a good investment that will improve with time if properly taken care of.
Don't take advice from other people. Only trust your own ear. Don't know why you'd need a price range either... just play go some. Go for what makes you feel good.
I got quiet a few top end guitars the guild I'm holding was one of the first of that model well over 40 years old when guild was guild which I got in the 70s second hand, there is no reason why this guitar could not be improved better strings for a start replace the nut and saddle may even improve the intonation, if you know what your doing, put a pick up on it and off you go still cheep but will sound a lot better at the moment It's not really a comparison with the Alhambra is it, but with a few tweaks who knows
Thanks for the comment. No it's not actually a comparison. It's just to show that, IMHO, in the classical guitar world you pay so much more to get a little better sound. I mean as you mentioned, with some little tweaks the C40 could sound a lot better than it does now. It costs at least 10 times less than the Alhambra.
If your playing technique is still low cheaper guitar will do the trick. Your opinion will sure change once you advance further. No one is stupid enough to pay a lot of money for nothing. There are more quality tones or colors you can bring out in more expensive guitars but you need to know how to.
It's like comparing apple and banana. Yamaha C40 is good in the beginnng, but then you want something better. Is Alhambra 7P worth the money? Yes, it is. It's even pleasant to hold in your hands. You cannot put it down. You want to play it all the time. It sounds much better than Yamaha C40. It will sound even more beautiful in 10 or 20 years. Yamaha C40 will always sound the same. Spruce top doesn't change the quality of sound with aging.
In the past many guitarist prefer Jose Ramirez compare to Alhambra for the higher level. Beginner C40 Yamaha is enough. The older Yamaha guitar for the year 80th even better.
Hi, I'm not that of an expert but I heard that Almansa and Alhambra make excellent guitars at this price point. Yamaha GC series (not CG) seem to be great too. But around 2000$ you should be able to get a fine luthier custom built guitar which might be the best choice for you. I'm sure there are real experts out there that might give you a piece of advice. Thanks for asking. It's actually a great question.
