Great video as always Kyle! If I could make a suggestion, I would love to hear a "in-the-room" tone for these amp vids, along with the SM57 setup. I would love to hear how some of these amps "feel" in a room, if that makes sense.
Kyle if you do decide to go this route ^^ you could literally get the behringer rta mic for very cheap, it’s very accurate in response (for price) and is Omni directional. Literally wouldn’t cost you more then like $100 after mic, stand, and xlr hahaha
Rubbish suggestion. It makes it impossible to compare previous amps. Against what We hear on current vids. We mic with the Sure just off the dust cap. Kyle you got it right from the start dude.. That's how we compare... Carry on as is Kyle. Holy shit!!! Are Marshall's just low gain, flubby Splawns?? I see why you love this amp.

Super under rated amp. IMO they are not as popular with the "home market' bc of how transparent they are. Very rewarding to a precise strumming hand, punishing to all others.
My favorite after owning 6 different Splawns. 2 Nitro’s, 2 QR’s and 2 Competitions. If you haven’t tried it yet, turn the treble off and dime the mids. It takes on a completely different vibe. Great video!
True!! Long Nitro owner here, also resonance beyond middle for a spongier feeling, and bass turn down for fine tuning. An overdrive for a saggier more easy Marshall vibe maybe. What's the better 4x12 cab/speaker for Nitro? I hate v30's (too much treble, upper mids) nice with creambacks, g12-65 still too much upper mids. I was thinking on buy an old Marshall jcm800 cab vs orange vs Splawn, EVH... Straight or slant?
almost a def Leppard sound with the mid level running high you see you have to line the frequency of each setting up with the last to ride the lightning.startqt zero and build your tone up from zero to ride the lightning so to speak
Just ordered a Super Comp 50 directly from Splawn after a year of trying to find a Morin modded 800 or plexi, but no luck. Lead time is currently 8 weeks. Can't wait! Awesome video, Kyle!
Get ready to be happy. I own a SuperSport and a Quickrod. They’ve outlasted Friedmans, Mesas, Marshalls, and Bogners. Just great amps. Unforgiving, but you get why really quickly.
I had an old Competition KT77 with Heyboer transformer and it did not sound like Quickrod, the frequencies were similar to Quickrod, but response/distortion character was closer to old Nitro with Heyboer, it was meaner, tigher, clearer, while Quickrod was smooth, had more oomph, saturation. I think even Promod was closer to Quickrod than Competition, but maybe that was just some "revision" difference. BTW. Solo knob can be used to fine tune low end/mid/saturation a little bit even when solo is not engaged, it is a slight change though
Based on your description it sounds like a VHT/Fryette. How would you say they compare? Maybe a video? A deliverance vs nitro and hotrod would be helpful.
Owned a quick rod and have a Pittbull UL. There are definitely similarities in the feel: immediate and not really any bounce or squish, very clear and precise. You flub a note with either....the note just dies. Lol! Tone wise, they are fairly different though. The Fryette/VHT is kind of it's own thing, plus it has the graphic eq. The Splawn is definitely squarely in modded Marshall territory, tonality wise. Actually, another amp I have owned that you could throw in that camp is the Wizard MC2. The Splawn has some similarities there as well, from what I remember.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new quickrod and I'm torn between el34 and 6550 tubes. I figured you would be the guy to ask given your experience with Splawns.
The competition makes your playing like riding on a Rollercoaster. Push it with all the speed you want, you just ram into the rails and your guitar releases percussion galore. You can go to cleanish to brown to modern level saturation with your volume. On second gear. Gear one to me is like a more modern version Ac/DC back in black type tone. Lots more gain but not more fizz. It's like the turbo plexi the 800s were intended to be.
