  • A new generation of Israelis and Germans is showing that reconciliation really is possible.
This documentary presents young people who believe in a common future, even though - more than 70 years after the Holocaust - Germany still contends with anti-Semitism and anti-Jewish attacks. Shahak Shapira has been exposed to anti-Semitic hostility and lost family members in the Holocaust as well as his grandfather in the attacks on the Israelis track and field team at the 1972 Munich Olympics - yet he still lives in Germany. Israeli singer Rilli Willow’s great aunt died in Auschwitz - but Rilli married a German Christian and splits her time between Germany and Israel. German chef Tom Franz converted to Judaism, married an Israeli woman, and lives in Tel Aviv. German writer Sarah Stricker also works and lives in Israel. They are four examples of a new generation of Israelis and Germans who are proving that, even after the darkest chapters of German history, people can live together again in peace and friendship.

It might be easier for 3rd and 4th generation but not for me. The Germans murdered my Grandparents, Great Grandparents, my Aunt and her 3 year old boy. My Grandmother was one of 10 siblings and the only survivor among them lost his first wife and four children. These are just of the few among the many many of my extended family that were murdered. My late Mother survived Auschwitz and Mauthausen and was traumatized for life. I cannot even bear hearing the language and when I do, I have to walk away.

This is a very well put together documentary. Both groups are respectful in their own ways of each other. Many countries, including mine, could learn a lot from this. The wounds all heal slowly, but both are putting in 110% in. Thank god, there is humanity out there. Bless all of you.

I'm Jewish myself, and i fell in love with a German guy. He is the best guy I've ever had, he knows about my family history, and how most of my family was killed during the Holocaust, and they lived in Germany at that time. And he's so protective of me, when we went to Israel last year he loved the country and the people, and he stood out and everyone knew he was German, tall Blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes.

There is no way you will be accepted saying you feel a very strong connection with the Jews.
Hasidic Sephardic Ashkenazi ect. You r still a gentile.
The only reason why you feel connected is because of the "education",TV,Media & Politics.
The constant repetition of "Judaism" in the media makes you feel connected.
Actors,Hollywood & Sitcoms make you feel connected.
You,as a non Jew,who has never been in Canaan can not be possibly connected in any way with the Jewish people and Israel.
Besides,Judea dominated the Slavetrade from at least the Mid ages untill the late 19 hundreds.
Throughout the last 1000-2000 Years Jews have been forbidden to own and slave Christians & Muslims. Many times in a row.
Before they traded African & Ethopian slaves, they traded & slaved germanic, slavic slaves. Until it was forbidden for them to practice the trade.
This resulted in slavetrading the Africans & Ethiopians. Thats when the American Slave Story begins.
In the 1800 hundreds it was clear, the Colonies & Judea would lose its slave trade business for good.
500 - 2000 Years of History arent whipped out so easy ... And with the Creation of Israel, another people & culture had to perish.
      No need to feel connected...

@@germaniatv1870 I hardly ever read such complete BS and total NONSENSE! Your post makes people wonder if you have gone totally crazy? Your whole post is trash - full of totally false information, full of biased attitudes and totally ignorant of history. HOW ignorant can anyone be??? You certainly created "your" own history here. E.g. how " could have Judea dominated the Slavetrade from at least the Mid ages until the late 19 hundreds????" Most of the Jewish people were driven out of their country and spread all over the world starting with the year 70 after Christ. Most of them lived as minority groups in other countries. There is no people in history which was persecuted as much as the Jewish people for way more than centuries. And "where is Judaism repeated constantly in the media?" Are you dreaming? What kind of utter nonsense are you spreading here? And certainly with the birth of the state of Israel NO other culture and people had to perish! Everyone who reads e.g. the Bible (and I am speaking of the old and new testament) carefully will feel connected with the Jewish people! It happened to so many people before. You really don't know anything. Get out of You Tube and troll somewhere else! Greetings from Germany, from a non-Jewish person who feels connected with Jewish people as well.

On the contrary, they invited me to their homes, gave me clothes, introduced me to Herman Hesse and took me to the Philharmonic in Jerusalem. That an Indian was murdered in Australia (we also murder Irish, English, Americans and Israelis) and anyone else who happens to come up against evil individuals at the wrong place and time) does not mean it was approved by all Australians. He was likely a true believer given this, and it makes it somewhat heartwarming that his great grandson is himself a Noahide, a status of righteous before the lord yet not a convert into the Jewish nation, Noahidism is very mainstream in Rabbinic Judaism and I am proud to be able to believe in a truly just G-d.

Every human has their individual needs and it wont bring us any further to concentrate on the things we don't share. I luckily have friends from different places around the globe. Religion is not a thing we concentrate on but when we talk about it its not judgemental but interested and in respect. Even when I have another opinion it does not mean I have to argue about it.

The next time you come to Germany try to think that the country had different periods in history which were peaceful and during which Jews were welcome. Jews are a part of German history. My family survived the Holocaust and never left the country. We have many relatives here who are Jews and for them it is ok to live here. So As well as the Legacy of the holocaust, Germans today carry on their beautiful memory, those are our heroes We share them in common as well.

With few exceptions, the Germans simply channeled their antisemitism into tamer versions, such as attempting to undermine and subvert the Jewish state -- both together with and separately from other Europeans. By and large, the Germans believe that the 1952 reparations agreement totally atoned for their part in the Holocaust and that they've got nothing to really be sorry for anymore.
Reasons like these are why many Jews still dislike the Germans.

My moms German and my dad was Jewish, imagine how frustrating and difficult an identity this was growing up. My moms family originally came to the US from Saarland and served in the German military, I believe was Prussia at the time? were judges and had nobility in the family. They were farmers in Wisconsin so visiting they were big into hunting, fishing, cheese, bratwurst, beer, I loved my cousins and grandparents dearly. My mom converted to Judaism and married my dad, in contrast growing up in an urban area in the city of Chicago but my dad was not your stereotypical Jew, his family had a farm and ranch in Wisconsin so he grew up around guns, horses, and a lot of physical activity.
It wasnt until I became an adult realizing there will never be a full acceptance as a Jew or a German and its always bothered me outside of my family that the Nazis did what they could to kill so many because of the blood that exists in our veins. I hate communism too and view it as destructive and seeing how much these things caused ethnic tension during Germanys worst periods, it feels weird knowing I have the blood of two ethnic groups that were enemies...

It's very judeophobic to support that Israel has no right to exist, being the only country in the world whose right to exist is questioned while countries such as Argentina, Chile, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and so on have similar history; for instance my country - Argentina - has a really big conflict with aboriginal peoples since XIX century when Argentina was created and it's extremly difficult to think a solution because ontological perception of world, life, territory, resources and everything are different. And there's a hugh repression by the actual government of Argentine Nation againt Mapuce Nation inside Argentina but Argentina's existance is not questioned by other countries even arab and muslim countries and actually many of these have good relationship with Argentina.

    • @zivzan
      @zivzan 6 лет назад +7

while i agree that israel is being criticized beyond reason, to compare palestinians to aboriginal peoples is an insult to aboriginals.
"palestinians" were not robbed off of their lands since there was never a palestinian state or even a palestinian people when israel was established. Arabs living in the region simply referred to themselves as Arabs, and they called the region Southern Syria. They rejected the name "Palestinians" and they even went so far as to claim that "Palestine" was a Zionist invention. In fact, before 1948 the Jews are the only ones who adopted the name Palestinians, and so there was a Jewish newspaper called "Palestine Post" a Jewish orchestra called "the Palestine Orchestra" and so on (Google "Palestine flag 1939"). It was only in 1964 that the Arabs adopted the name Palestinians.
Palestine was the name of this region since roman times, and before that it was called Judea (hence the name Jews). the name was changed in 135 CE by the Roman Emperor Hadrian following the Jewish-Roman wars. the name palestine never stood for anything other than a region and no arab called himself palestinian prior to 1964. the palestinians of today are mostly work immigrants from syria, egypt, iraq and saudi-arabia. they know it, some of them still bear family names from their countries of origin.
here's a live admission of a Hamas leader while he pleads for help from egyptian people:
      ruclips.net/video/9-umTdeh_bQ/видео.html%EF%BB%BF
p.s. the Jews are not foreigners to the land of Israel like the Europeans were to all the places you mentioned.

as an Israeli, i can say with certainty that only a special kind of Israelis move to Berlin, it always, but always, extreme left Israelis who move to Berlin, sometimes seeking anarchists parties to join. definitly not the typical Israeli.

Totally bogus. Many israelis, specular, calm life seekers are relocating to Berlin. I lnow some. They don't have many great guiding principles, just working hard and earn their living.

Fischer977 Not so true.. the ones you know are the minority , most of Israelis that live in berlin are extreame left

Tom Bouenos Or maybe Israeli society is so right wing, anybody who is not a crazy right wing nutjob is considered an extremist. It's all about perspective. From what I see israelis who live in Germany arestill proud of their country and culture.

That's the right attitude Shahat, in Berlin (just because a few irresponsible Arabs/Muslims had abused/mistreated you, then ok lets join in hating them and mistreating them, If Abdul happen to be in a Berlin street visiting Deutschland, then he should be a ''casualty of hate/abuse/mistreatments just because some fools of the same faiths/religion, have done something stupid, inhumane to Shahat or Helmut Schmidt Jr).. Hate is the enemy of humanity. We should not allow hate to win.
