- New tier 8 German premium cruiser that so many of you wanted to see, Mainz. It's a light cruiser armed with 12x150mm guns that pen 38mm without IFHE, rapid firing guns with good range and good initial shell velocity, decent HP pool, A LOT of torps and NO ARMOR.
If you think you'll brawl or hunt in this ship, you're dead wrong. This is sniping and kiting ship. Anything else will result in great loss of HP with not much to show for.

Only Having watched world of warships for around a year now, ( mostly jingles then you) I have really grown to appreciate the content you make and the dedication towards streaming. Tis something I have wanted to do for a while but never pulled the trigger on it till recently lol. Im limited to playing the legends console version but your gameplay and passion for the game has inspired me to start making some of my own! I liked this video as it showed some aspects of play I'm still working on (and the reason I'm at only 50% win rate). I still do not do well controlling overall speed. Like the Cleveland being fired at in the start who slowed down (so his shots missed), backed up then rammed it forward (again missed shots). Being able to control that speed like that using the incoming fire and targeted by indicators to aid you in your movements is something I believe better players have mastered and I still do not do as well with. Oh I'm changing course most of the time so no straight lines (which means more difficult for them to hit you). But when I'm CA vs CA fight, I have a higher shell arc (more time in the air), and I'm firing and missing as he suddenly slows down or speeds up it's almost as if they have a mod telling them where the shells will land and they are dancing the shells (LOL). I'd love to get that good and "troll" others with a CA :-)

Mainz is also really dependent on MM to do brawling, if you're trying to do it like a Hipper or Eugen, you can only do that against anything with 357mm guns or less, otherwise you need to have the element of surprise to really shine.
wait, Mainz ate a bunch of planes and the carrier didn't even get an attack off? How long until WG notices and nerfs Mainz like every other german ship

So the first German premium since Prinz Eitel Frederich (December, 2018)! I don't mind the HE being weak (enough of HE spammers) or the fact that it is a glass canon (a non-soviet light cruiser after all), but I do believe that the AP should be buffed a bit more on the penetration side as well as with improved penetration angles, so that people can use it more often and we have a different play style.
I really don't think every new ship nowadays needs improved AP pen angles. If anything they need to have a lot fewer ships that have them.
I agree, but a light cruiser with bad HE alpha, but usable AP, that forces players to use it is a nice alternative to braindead spam. Something different.
@@ShreenathTewari She actually doesn't need better pen, just better survivability so she can use AP rather than spam HE from max range, since if you get close with such a paper ship you get frontcita by BBs... Being able to use AP is different from having reliable AP. I'm pretty certain her AP is fine, she just can't get close or fight in open waters safely enough
HE has bad alpha per shell. In every other way, the HE is by no means weak. DPM beats the Russian CLs, fire chance is insane given no need for IFHE and the sheer amount of shells it puts out and 38 mm penetration is something other CLs don't even get with IFHE, except Mogami. You basically do 3-4k per salvo instead of the 5k something like Chapayev would do, but every 6s instead of every 8s, with better fire chance and the ability to wreck USN BB decks. Find some spot that is somewhat safe and you easily can just burn down ships from 17 km away.

i always push in my BB man. And i usually die bc my team is pussy and hides the entire game without taking a shell, (10 min into the game and there are 3 FULL HP BBs in my spawn doing absolutely nothing) meanwhile i tank 3-4 mil potential. Altho i sorta understand some ppl's reluctance to push in, usually you get spotted and HE spammed half to death, if not to death, by smolensks and other Skillless Farts that only hide behind Islands or in smoke the entire Game.
It depends on the potatoes, not the ships man. And GK with spotterplane is just dumb, no way German Dispersion is going to do much at 20+km distance....
@@laylobinson5839 I have spotter plane on my GK simply because the fighter is next to worthless anyway.
And it makes it easier to look over islands and get blindshots away on Mino's, Neptunes whatever kind of dakkadakka that is present.
But yeah dispersion will render long range fire hits more of a miracle than a display of actual aiming skill :P
542 matches in my GK, and I like to push as well - because brawling is just that much more fun :)
@@PatrickJoergensen True man, Spotting plane does have a advantage sometimes, altho alot of times my aim just doesnt work with it lol. Yea Fighters are pretty much worthless, WG should definitely buff Fighters in generall, so that they ACTUALLY shoot something down for a change. But sometimes a CV shits his pants bc you have a fighter up and running, so you can use it as a bluff i guess? Either way, definitely a Miracle to hit anything at that distance yea XD
I like to brawl too, i REALLY dislike the playing style of only hiding and hiding and hiding some more. Uugh just absolutely Loathe those kind of BB and cruiser players. Just Straight-off 0 Skill if you ask me. If you want to hide that badly just play DD. Altho you godda hope to not run into an enemy team with 6 Radars and stuff like that.
Long range GK is a waste of a great brawling ship. Spotter plane is for smoke firing Smolensk.
I'm so very on the fence when it comes to this ship. Her rate of fire is crazy, and she can pen 38mm USN BB decks *without IFHE*, which is golden as she ends up setting a ton of fires too. And her AP DPM is monstrous even by Tier 10 standards. But I think they applied too many cons. Extraordinarily poor concealment by even heavy cruiser standards, let alone light cruisers. Slow and sluggish, so less capable of open water firing like Russian CLs. 25mm plating, while normal by CL standards, isn't great for a ship that's supposed to be from a line known to brawl. Her HP is more than okay and is on the higher side for her tier. No heal sucks ... but is also normal for tier 8. We've just been spoiled by some tier 8 cruisers with Repair Party, but most still do not. Mind you, her armor is still pretty good by CL standards due to the 40mm bow and aft waterline armor, meaning she CAN yolo torp by ambushing enemy BBs. While they can still aim high and land a bunch of regular pens, citadels are not gonna happen up close while this ship is angled.
In the end, I think I'd be most comfortable if she ever a) got the 27mm plating everywhere treatment Hipper has, or b) 11km concealment or less with full conceal build ... 12km concealment is battleship levels at this tier and very garbage.
My Yamato loves Mainz, already since yesterday got myself 2 dev Mainz strikes, they were playing while listening to firestarter by Prodigy.. me I was listening to BIG GUN AC/DC ... ROFL.. keep them comin you wallet warriors

5 fires 400 shells is pretty rough though

@@christopherpittman2689 he fired 621 HE shells (260 hits) and 279 AP shells (136 hits)... 10k fire damage for 71k HE shell damage isn't that good, but that's compared to OP HE spammers.
Her DPM is ok imo, I'm just sad it will be another HE spammer, because using AP with this ship requires too much exposure she cannot handle with her non-existant tankiness (and pretty bad concealment), unless enemies are blind (which often happen, but you can't play based on that).
I have seen a lot of mainz recently, they seems to have a good AA capability.
its alright against similar tier CVs and planes, but youre still going to want to pop the fighter and when youre uptiered, they will still wreck you if they want to
Tin Can Jr. Mainz needs some tanky armor.
Mainz the Bane of all Destroyers or Mainz the Butcher of Destroyers.
I had no problem destroying one with my Chapayev up close.
Looks like you need islands or a buddy with smoke to help Mainz do damage without getting blapped.
Third option, potato enemies.
tbh, i think the Mainz is an OK to decent ship, but could use (and, warning cynism, likely would have also gotten if it was russian, considering Talinn is faster and sneaker, despite being heavier...), either, or a combination of: Hipper armour, heal, better stealth, higher speed.
You say no armor Flambass but Mainz has a 40mm icebreaker!

@@EvoraGT430 same, specially when you compare this ship with the new Russian T8 ship it just shows the bias WG has.
The Russian ship has a higher caliber with almost the same reload, better ballistics, higher health pool, radar, better AA, better torps and better armor
@@EvoraGT430 It is best to not spend too much on WG, enjoy the game for what it is, and just have fun with others. If you take WoT or WoWS too seriously, it sucks the massive D. Agreed.

It's a good cruiser considering i couldn't citadel it up to this date.
Nguyen Johnathan I bet I am unlucky, and I'm sure it can be citadel, but it's a tricky one, compared to others. So for me it's not a bad cruiser.
So it seems like a German Cleveland with better range, ballistics and HE performance; torps instead of radar.
Your are wrong, Mainz manoeuvre like a dumb piece of junk. Cleveland is clearly better
@@samuelwong4152 you’re certainly entitled to your opinion but I think that there are some who would gladly trade the maneuverability and radar for the main battery performance. I’ve never played the Mainz and it’s been ages since I bothered with the Cleveland (pretty much since it was tier 6) so I don’t care either way.

@@EvoraGT430 Buzzing noise happens whenever you take a lot of damage, even non-cits. Even DDs get that sound and they have no citadel. Technically, the best way to tell whether it was citadels is by looking at how much damage you took compared to how many shells hit. Especially if you take very straightforward values that correspond to the maximum amount a shell would do, like 10k from a IJN 356 mm gun.

Playing in the Mainz is fun.

Eugen has heal, better armor and punchy AP. They are different - but both seem strong in their roles.
eugen's ap is anything but punchy. it has a high alpha and that's all. any angling and all damage goes to shit
How is high alpha not punchy, that's pretty much the definition...
u barely get much value since most of the time it's shatters and bounces. hence the high alpha feels like it's nothing. meanwhile the eugen HE is terrible. mainz is excellent (somehow) and the AP manages to be brutal due to the fast reload
Mainz is unfit to call it self a tier 8 cruiser, and totally not worth your time !
