  • The first pricing data on the Lotus Emira reveals that prices are tumbling and that they are approaching the Evoras. Could the Evora be the better value for money option here?

The first data on the Emiras indicates that depreciation rates could be relatively steep, despite the price increase. The latest Evoras are priced at the same level or slightly below the Emiras and are depreciating at much lower rates. Therefore, I believe you should consider them if you are a value conscious buyer. This holds especially if the model hierarchy in terms of pricing will fail. Meaning that Emiras will drop below Evoras. Yet, if it does hold, we could see significant shifts in pricing.

This video is NOT APPLICABLE to the USA where the cars were recently released and there is still a 12month wait for people who want one. I have not seen a single US car sell below MSRP, and it wont for a year or two. Some dishonest dealers are marking pre-ordered orphaned cars up $5-15k

At 75k it was a good value, at $120k it's sheer greed by Lotus. Anyone paying 120k for this car is dumb, and yes it will depreciate below 90 and even 80k quickly as more come in

@@fzr1000981 If you really look at the market though, this is a unique car in everything from the $80k-150k range, especially if you're a Porsche guy (and who wants to spend $100K on a 4 banger turbo Boxster?!). To get anything a ton more interesting and attractive with character, you're going to spend >$200k. At least in the US market, I think this car is holding its value for a long time - its design is timeless already.

I think the real problem is brand new car prices are way too high. Peoples salaries have not increases as much as the prices have gone up, so people only pay what they think its worth. For 85k its a very crowded market, the emiras true worth brand new is likely 70k maximuim

I feel emira prices have started a will continue to fall
As you say there is already and will be many more produced so though to me it is a much better built and refined car oversupply will push prices down over time
Though evoras have a following I can’t see that protecting them long term from being pulled down by emiras oversupply, so be interesting where they stabilise at, personally I think it will be the similar to emira or lower, possibly other than the gt4 or other hard core variants
Personally I would have a emira anyday looks much better, and more developed, just as tuneable
Plus easier to get in and out of
Other thing is selling on a Evora privately is always going to be a harder, longer term thing as the pool of buyers will be much lower

The Emira is a wonderful car. Unfortunately, the Lotus brand doesn’t have a very good track record for reliability and build quality. Not to mention if something breaks, there’s a handful of guys in a shed in the middle of nowhere England making parts. Said parts will take forever to be delivered, if ever. Plus, there’s no official dealer network in the US. It’s usually a current dealer of other exotic cars that has a corner office dedicated to the brand. Or worse, in my case here in Dallas. It’s a used car dealer lol.

Hype and mania around Emira was always going to lead to a reality check as many jumped on the bandwagon thinking they would make a profit. Now the party is over, the speculators are long gone and the hangover is kicking in. Problem for Emira is Lotus need to make masses of them and they pitched it below the outgoing Evora in performance and price in order to keep the costs down and the sales high. Since then, price inflation has pushed the Emira back up to Evora 410 prices but performance hasn't changed. Turbo 4 Emira was launched as a 'sub £60k' sports car which attracted a lot of deposits. Now they are finally being delivered, Lotus are asking over £80k for them.

I think the Evora was bought by enthusiasts only and hence are rarer, the Emira has been bought by some enthusiasts, but also flippers and customers who would never have bought a Lotus before, so now there are more cars than customers so I predict that the rarer Evora will ultimately be worth more even if the Emira is arguably the better car

Ots relatively simple. The Emira is a mass producdd car. Only 24 Evoras vs 94 available on AT right. Another 33 brand new Emiras on the Lotus website too.
Evoras will hold and Emiras will continue to depreciate, albeit incrementally.

The Emira has been developed for the mass (compartively) market. The Evora for Lotus fans. This is similar to normal Porsche and GT Porsche. Whilst the Emira to my eyes looks better the Evora is more of a drivers car, drivers dont care about weight adding modern stuff - why do you need heavy electic motors for your seat? Weight of Emira is 1,458kg, weight of standard Evora is 1,248kg a difference of circa 17%. That really matters to car guys. Emora has numbed out feel for better quality feel - not what car guys want, it is what mass markwt wants. Yes Emira has better power ro weight, but car guys value light weight. Original Evora very rare and at bottom of depreciation curve. So value chouce is buy the best standard Evora that you can find.

I know both cars well; what is the consensus do you all think about the evora’s suspension tuning vs the emira? I think the Evora GT effectively has the Emira’s sport suspension. Given the cars are so similar, suspension tuning (mechanically at least) may be the greatest delta. I’m also curious if the Emira solved the throttle response issue the Evora has. It’s true what they say about it being difficult to heel-toe for that reason.

Emira is a fantastic car to drive but it's reducing to where it should be in price. Lotus should not have increased the new price. This made deposit holders bail, increasing stock levels and decreasing values. If they had kept oringal price they would be in a much better place but now the ugly spectre of depreciation has set in place. Just like mclaren. Was a HUGE mistake by Lotus and has spoiled the ownership proposition of a truly great car.
