10 beaches of Karpathos

1. The city of Karpathos has another name - Pigadia. If we talk about bathing, then in the city itself the beach is very good, it is clean and sandy.
2. Achata is one of the best beaches of the island of Karpathos. Located relatively near the city of Karpathos - 18 kilometers (20 minutes by car). Cozy location, cafes, sun beds, umbrellas. Small pebbles, if you like sand, then you need southern beaches. And in the city of Karpathos beaches are sandy and very good. But the beach Achata must be visited necessarily.
3. Kyra Panagia - Very beautiful place - one of the best beaches of the island of Karpathos. It is near the city of Pigadia (Karpathos) - 15 kilometers (26 minutes by car). Here is the famous church of Kyra Panagia with a red dome. It is a symbol of the island, and the whole island of Greece as a whole. A photograph of this church can be seen on almost every tourist booklet about traveling to Greece. On the beach, small pebbles. Several restaurants and cafes. A very interesting restaurant is located above the church. There is a great view of the beach and the sea.
4. Apella. We continue our series about the beaches of the island. Explore the beaches, moving north along the eastern part. The farther north, the more pebbles and less sand.
Apella - We didn’t like the beach. Problems begin immediately with a place for the car. We were on Karpathos in late August - early September. You can imagine what is going on here in July. Parking is very very problematic. The beach itself is very open - the wind is constantly blowing. Well, pebbles. Who loves sand, so there is nothing to do at all. The beach is located near the town of Karpathos - 19 kilometers (33 minutes by car). There is a restaurant. In general, you can come here once - look and never come back. And why - because there are plenty of other beaches for every taste. Or maybe someone Apella just like I can.
5. Vananda Beach is located a couple of kilometers from the village of Diafani in the north of the island of Karpathos. There is no sand - black pebbles - a lot of fish (probably).
6 & 7 Alimounda & Palatia. From the north to the island Karpathos closely adjoins the small island of Saria. Today it is uninhabited. The inhabitants of Diafani keep beehives and goat grazing on the island. Abandoned homes and the church sell the local landscape a romantic flavor. The island can be reached by boat from Diafani or directly from Pigadia (Kapratos). We bought a tour for the whole day, it cost about 30 euros per person. It was a German tour. Das is fintastish natyurlich. We stopped first in the beach of Palatia. The guide said - everyone followed me - and swam into some kind of gap in the rock and swam for some time at some caves - and swam out through another gap. In the afternoon, we made a small transition and anchored in Alimounda. This place is easy to find out - there has been a large, dry, gnarled tree on the beach for many years. The trip is good - swimming was excellent, the beaches are pebbly, no sand, plus food included in the price. Five stars. You will not be sorry.
8, 9 & 10 Amoopi, Vatsalakia, Diakoftis. The beaches in the south of the island are sandy. Mu had time to swim on the beaches of Amoopi, Vatsalaki and Diakoftis. We are lovers of sandy beaches, so we really liked the southern part of the island - especially the beach Big Amoopi. As a landmark, there is a church on the shore, on the right are several sandy beaches: Pera Ammos Beach, Big Amoopi Beach and Amoopi Beach. To the left of the church is Vatsalaki beach, it is absolutely pebbly. If you want sand - go to the right, you want pebbles, go 200 meters, you have pebbles.
Diakoftis Beach is located at the very south of the island and in the neighborhood of the airport fence for reference.
