#Andor #EasterEggs #StarWars
Welcome to ScreenCrush, I’m Ryan Arey, and this is all the Easter Eggs, references, and little things you might have missed in Episode four of Andor.
So the first three episodes of this series were very much about introducing us to Cassian, exploring his background, and letting us know exactly where he is at this point in his life. In our last video I talked about how all of this shading was necessary to show us his journey, and how it sheds new light on the Rebel Alliance. The first three episodes almost felt like a prologue.
Now we are getting into the meat of the story, with Cassian getting set up with a heist crew, and we start to see the behind the scenes politicking that led to the Alliance’s creation.
We begin with Luthen and Cassian barely escaping security forces, with Cassian injured. Star Wars is always at its best when it's telling an underdog story, and this opening can’t recall the ending of the Empire strikes back, when the Imperials are bearing down on Luke and friends after he was maimed by Vader.
And this. Never gets old. Leave a comment if driving through snow reminds you of hyperspace.
So they’re heading to planet Aldhani, which was created for this series and thank god they are not headed to Tatooine. There is too. Much. Tatooine.
So Luthen starts his recruitment pitch, and Cassian lists the various rebel factions. Now Alliance obviously refers to the rebel alliance to restore the republic which would be in its very earliest days at this time. Sect could refer to any number or more organized subsets like a guild or a corporate zone sympathetic to the empire, guerilla refers to anyone doing hit and run attacks on the empire-and partisan front is actually one of the larger groups at this time period. I think this is referring to the group controlled by Saw Gererra.
Saw began to form this sect in the days right after the empire was formed, as we saw in the bad batch. And by the time of Rogue one, their ruthlessness became legendary, and was seen as a political hindrance by the republic. We even see one of Saw’s partisan attacks in Rogue one. And, in genomiss, he almost committed genocide against the race who built the Death Star.
Cassian doesn’t think much of any of these groups. He hates the empire, but thinks any organized effort is doomed to fail. His defeatism is a mirror to a lot of people who don;t vote, and say “ah it’s all rigged and corrupt anyways.” Which is kind of like the defeatist, real world version of saying this.
Man, I never get tired of that. You know we here at ScreenCrush try to show you as many classic movie clips as possible, and one of my favorites relates to Mephisto, and it's one of the greatest movie scenes of all time.

Back to the easter eggs.
Then we get our first major easter egg of the show. We learn that Cassian was sent to an Imperial prison, and at age sixteen he was forced to the front lines on a planet called Minbam. Now Minbam is a world that is very rich in resources, so it was the site of a large battle during the clone wars-the empire moved to seize all of its resources, resulting in a bloody war called the Minimum campaign. - Кино
What was your favorite scene in this week’s ‘Andor’?
You tell me
Seeing Coruscant in live action again after 17 years 💙 Albeit under imperial rule 👎
I liked seeing Coruscant again
@@MrEdfed It was great.
The scene when we first see Aldhani because that is where Galen Erso and his family live for some time.
Actually, Cassian says "Sep" as in Separatist instead of "sect". The subtitles confirm it. So it would appear that the Separatists are still at least somewhat around at the time of the show
not saying this is true here but ive seen plenty of times subtitles saying something different than what was actually said, even official subtitles from disney
In german sync they even said sepratist
I heard "Sep" as well, the guys one the ship in the flash backs had Separatist insignias, too.
Was here to say this
And Chandrila was one of the seperatist planets
The helmet on the armor stand in the background of the gallery very closely resembles Starkiller's helmet from the dark side ending of the force unleashed
Definitely inspired from
Looks exactly identical to me. Surprised screen crush didn't mention it lol
@@sayfulislam42 yeah, i mean besides the spikes
Yes it does and also resembles the helmet Leia wore in Return of the Jedi.
That was the first thing i thought aswell!
Honestly this show keeps getting better and better. Love the slow burn appeal to it. Really enjoyed the 2 drastically different sides of the Rebellion. The soldiers/operatives on the ground living a harsh life. And the political class/elite. Mon Mothma navigating the Imperial Senate.
Agreed. It’s great
Agreed....its a good story thats being well told.
It's so good
This is the future of Star Wars. Please Disney and baby jesus, maintain this adult tone going forward and spare us from mediocre writing and corny fan service.
I love how you can feel that mon monthma is in just as much if not more danger even though shes livijg a relitivelt comfortable life. All it takes is one misstep or mentioning the wrong thing to the wrong person and she dissapears
I am blown away by this series so far. Loved the Syril banishment walk to his moms place and the security meetings. Both weave in these extra untold lifestyles we have never seen before in the usually narrow SW storytelling. The sets, music, and worlds created are just so big screen as well, can not be ignored.
lmao yeah when she opened the door and he was like "hi mum" I cheered
They kept the story grounded while giving a good bit of fan service. I’m so glad they got the right writers and directors
Agreed....its a good story thats being well told.
Not for ep 4
@@pumpweightsmakemoneygetfunny ep 4 was the best yet
based pfp
You missed a couple good easter eggs. The helmet worn by Starkiller in the dark side ending of The Force Unleashed was in Luthen's shop. And Mon Mothma's husband also mentioned inviting Sly Moore, the Umbaran administrative aid to Palpatine, who we saw a couple times in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. She's also recently been popping up more in the comics.
It's very similar but it's sithstalker armor. From fallen siths
I am so excited that the Rakata and by extension the Rakatan Empire is officially cannon.
This isn't necessarily the case.
This is like the Revan situation from tRoS. The Sith eternal battalions are names after old Sith lords.
Making their names canon but not the characters lore as we know it.
Same goes for this instance. The Rakatan are now Canon as galactic conquerors, but none of the lore as we know it is canon.
It's been left open ended so that any change Disney wants to make can be done.
When they start dropping legends lore like the Rakatan are actually responsible for the state Tattoine is in, back into current canon is when we should start getting excited.
i like the cash back i get for shopping thru Rakatan.
@@ghostman5620I have no idea what you are talking about the only thing that shows up on Google is the alien species and their Empire.
@@Lord-Emperor-Vader They are making a joke about how Rakatan sounds similar to Rakuten a website for buying and selling stuff.
@@Hawk199031 The joke is not good there are some clear differences in pronunciation wit one being pronounced Ra ka tan and the other being Rack u ten. This joke is pretty poor and is like saying general and generation are similar in spelling and that is funny.
When they mentioned construction resources headed to Scarif I got so excited as that could only mean the Death Star
yes agree me too one of my fave planets is Scarif... more surprises coming
The Death Star wasn’t assembled on scarif or really has anything to do with it besides it’s data being stored there. Probably just the writers using a popular planet to peak the viewers mind but still fun nonetheless
@@trentwalmsley3752 yeah I was thinking that too
@@trentwalmsley3752 they're probably upgrading the vault or adding more security features
Another easter egg: As Luthen arrives on Coruscant a voice through the speakers on the space port mentions Hosnian Prime, the capital of the New Republic, which gets destroyed by the First Order in TFA.
Loving how much deep lore there is being involved in Andor and Palpatine's henchmen has me excited.
How did you miss the stone tablets in Luthen’s antique shop? They have the same hand symbols as the one Ezra got from the Loth Wolves.
I was just going to say this. I freaked out when I saw the stone tablets. I’ve noticed he’s missed some other rebels Easter eggs in the past as well.
an entire video can be made of what was in the antique shop, there's holocrons and gungan shields and starkiller helms etc
There's also a Kel Dor antitox mask (Plo Koon reference).
How did he miss starkillers mask??
That can't be from that temple though it's not destroyed yet
Nice to see you back Ryan. Doug lost without you. The help did a great job of helping him out. 👍🏻
Did u get that Aldhani is filmed in Scotland, it's up the road from where the established titles have their plots. The actor that plays perrin is a famous Scottish actor that played archie in monarch of the Glen who was a laird of the land. The story of Aldhani mirrors the Highland clearances of Scotland where the crofters were moved to the lowlands to work in the shipyards and factories for the growing empire.
They wernt moved to work in the factories and shipyards, the Imperial industry of the central belt wouldnt get going until about a 100 years later. They were moved because the Lairds realized they earned more money from sheep than they did from subsistence farmers paying rent for their cottages and small holdings (while other Lairds believed they were moving perpetually malnourished people out of drafty shacks into a warmer & healthier environment in better quality housing). Some lairds built whole new fishing villages for the people to move to on the coast.
Monarch of the Glen!!! Banging programme, loved Ghilly and Archies Dad. Was gutted when the actor passed away, loved him in the Good Life reruns on a Sunday. Richard something... O'brien?? Dreyfuss?? Can't remember
Little architectural Easter Egg for you - the apartment complex on Coruscant is actually the Brunswick Centre in London. The 'A Frame' corridors, atriums and balconies are the connecting areas in the residential area of that complex, just as they are in Andor.
Omg! I used to live down the street from Brunswick Center! So cool 🙌🏼
Of all the wonderful actors in this series special kudos must go to Stellan Skarsgaard. He always raises the quality level of every film he performs in. A master among masters!
My thoughts while watching the episode:
1. The "secret police" are white blood cells. They wear white and this fits with their leader's description of their actual purpose being to fight disease. Cool visual metaphor.
2. Blevin attributes the failure of the security force to a combination of "Idiocy, Ineptitude, and total disengagement." It may be obvious that each of these qualities refer one of the three men in front of him, but I think the qualities also speak to the cause of future failures of the empire, the shortcomings in imperial attitude that Cassian is able to take advantage of. Cool foreshadowing.
3. I also liked how Cassian says that the Empire had them fighting themselves in that war, and then we see the Empire secret police suffering from infighting as well. I think this shows another weakness that the rebels will take advantage of. I mean, if they had shared the raw data, then the Officer would have had Cassian's image and name connected to the missing sealed starchart thingy. I'm sure that would have caused lots of trouble for him in his future missions. I doubt they'd have let him walk into Skardiff for example. Luke would have never been able to blow up the Death Star if the secret police had just said, "ok, here's the file." in that single moment (3 moments actual, 3 strikes you're out.) I think there is also historical precedence to Nazi Germany suffering from all of its officers being to ambitious/competitive. The inquisitors in Obi Wan also had similar problems. It may have been a throwaway line from Cassian, but I think it is also meant to show a pattern of the Empire's weaknesses. Cool juxtaposition.
It's kind of funny that Gilroy said there'd be no fan service, but clearly there is quite a bit, he just doesn't beat you over the head with it. ;)
Gilroy himself said he wasn't a Star Wars fan, but this just goes to show that if you have good writing and directing, it doesn't really matter if the director had Star Wars bedsheets or not. In fact it was probably a bit of an advantage in a series like this.
props department might care more than gilroy :)
@@wavytiger1 Well, most of the things mentioned are in the script, so it's not just props. The only thing Gilroy has really done differently than other directors is, if something doesn't make sense he'll retcon it. Andor's age is a great example. For the story to work it made no sense for Andor to be 25 in Rogue one, so Gilroy altered it. Maybe that's what he means by "Fan Service", in that it's blindly sticking to older content regardless if it makes sense.
If so, I totally agree with him. One thing I hate is when writers/directors spend so much time and energy trying to explain/justify bad writing (or flat out mistakes) from older content. Star Wars spending so much time trying to explain the The Kessell Run is probably the best example in all of movies. Lucas made a mistake where he used the wrong terminology, he admitted he screwed up, but people couldn't leave it alone and we end up getting whatever the heck we got in Solo...we also got half a movie based around a pair of dice hanging from a rear view mirror, a scene where he learned to shoot first, etc., etc., etc.
Fan service and simply connecting the existing dots are two separate things. We''re going to hear about certain planets and settings that are important because they're part of characters histories (or futures for that mater) while fan services is simply things that shoehorned in or remind you of something else in the lore without purposeful context. Of course, the props department could put tons of familiar references in the background, but it's not taking focus off the story to do that.
I like that Cassian took the name of Clem after his adopted father. Also, you don't always need thrilling action to make you feel on edge. When Luthen is moonlighting as an antiquities collector and meets with Mon Motha in the back room, it was tense. You can feel the pressure and the stakes they are under. I agree that a "slow burn" to this series is a good thing. We can let the characters breathe and grow.
You can see in the antique shop the helmet that Galen Marek wears during the dark side ending in The Force Unleashed game
Episode 4 really cemented that this show is and will continue to deliver. Wasn’t 100% convinced after the first 3- but now I understand what angle the story writers are coming from
Exactly. Everyone that was saying it doesn't feel Star Wars enough. I mean... sure but it's sure getting to familiar Star Wars imagery and even themes now.
Now I can watch this channel again. Don't ever leave us again, Ryan!
Foreal it was unbearable without him
@@sebabarrera2639 What actually happened? I couldn't figure it outl.
He went on vacation. Not sure if he’s back yet. I think reviewers got advanced screeners including this episode. He might have done this recap before he left. That being said I’d be totally happy if he were back.
“Always sunny on Tatoine!” Had me crying 😂😂😂
Yay! Ryan is back!! Hope you enjoyed some time off
Stellan Skarsgard as Luthen grounds the show, and gives it dramatic heft.
Even with all the excellent performances by the other actors, Skarsgard's Luthen gets your attention on the immediacy and importance of the situation.
Luthen balances pragmatist and idealist as best he can, all the while putting on a front as an antiquities dealer.
He is passionate in his efforts.
Diego Luna is a marvel as Cassian Andor.
His slow burn approach grounds the character, and makes Andor's journey all the more heartbreaking.
The show is exemplary in it's story and character development.
Kudos to all.
welcome back Ryan. place wasn't the same without you.
I honestly enjoyed the tension when the heist group first meets anyone else getting magnificent seven vibes besides me love the show and the break down Un agape
“Not the bees!” Is getting tired. But “somehow, Palpatine returned” will never _ever_ get old.
I actually don't understand the context behind 'not the bees'?
I’ve been saying this all the time, yet Ryan still keeps on, like his life depends on it. We don’t need three more ‘that’s your mom’ joke. We’re exhausted.
@@eatwhaturgiven It's a reference from the episode breakdown videos made for WandaVision. The "not the bees" clip is from the 2006 remake of the horror film The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage.
@@irishviking383 ahh yes I was watching when everything was hexagonal in wandavision. The fact that its still hanging around confuses me?
@@eatwhaturgiven Considering how often the "somehow, Palpatine returned" clip shows up even when the episode/teaser breakdown video isn't about Star Wars, I think the concept of taking something that's amusing for a brief time and then running it into the ground doesn't exist for this channel.
"Too much Tattooine "
I agree. I have a theory about Tattooine being a focal point of the Force. It has a continuous life/death cycle, once being rich with water & vegetation, then becoming a barren, waste of a desert. I that no that this happened on the planet many times before.
Being that Andor's characters are not Force sensitives, it makes sense that their stories do not involve Tattooine.
So far this was the best episode. You missed a few Easter eggs, certain weapons and items in the shop
My first thought of the person getting added to the inner circle was Bail Organa. That deleted scene from ROTS was deleted, so most fans probably haven't seen Bail Organa as part of the rebellion. Plus, it'll tie this series to Kenobi.
Bail would likely have been part of the Rebel Alliance from the beginning… after all, he’s raising Anakin’s daughter and knows Yoda & Obi Wan are alive. Plus, if Ahsoka would seek out any Imperial Senator it would be Padmé’s friend
@@williamflowers9435 Also in Obi Wan it is quite clear already that Bail is definitely organising that kind of stuff. And that series is about 5 years prior to this.
@@LogistiQbunnik good point
The reference to the Rakata is the one reference that blew my mind.
First reference in a Star Wars show to Knights of The Old Rebuplic.
@@theawesomeman9821 Madnalorian, sezon2, when he and tuskens hunt for krait dragon.... that my friend, was referens too :) with banta as a bait
In fact there were two Doc Brown moments. The model of the plan, which I totally missed at first. Plus Ben Bailey Smith (aka Doc Brown, rapper and standup) playing the ISB agent sparring with Debra 😀
When you were talking about Mas Amedda I was waiting for you to bring up that her husband had Sly Moore in the guest list.
Sly Moore worked closely with Amedda and Palpatine and was a Force Adept who had the ability to manipulate the minds of others, which makes her an extremely dangerous guest to have at a dinner party where you are trying to hide your allegiances.
I'm hoping we get to actually see some of this dinner party and that it isn't just a name-drop.
You didn't even mention the sith stalker armor in the background. That was probably my favorite detail from this episode.
Andor is everything I wanted from the SWU, great story, great acting and a much needed expansion past the original characters and storylines.
In Luthen's gallery there is a 2nd suit of armor on a rack and seen in multiple shots. It's been altered, but it looks an awful lot like Darth Starkillers Ubese armor from the special mission of The Force Unleashed, where if you kill Vader and become the emperors new enforcer Galen has the suit surgically attached to his body and you turn Luke to the darkside by the end of the level on Hoth.
I was going to ask the same. Because I also think it could be sort of a reference to the Knights of Ren. But damn! It does seems similar to the Starkiller one
@@LexFett The helmet is for sure Darth Starkiller's Ubese helmet but they put those weird fans or blades on it idk what to call them.
The rest of the suit is harder to make out and doesn't really look like the suit he has in the game.
Yay! Welcome back Ryan! The other videos were not the same without you!
fax @vance mcgill i didn't even watch the other ones
2nd that
Appreciate the other guy too but agree, we're here for Ryan.
This show is made with so much love and attention it really makes a change
The suit of armour in the antique place has the Starkiller helmet. Between that, the mention of Rakatans and Cassian using Kyle Katarns gun are some nice deep lucasarts cuts
I absolutely loooost it at the Jar Jar part. Not saying you are wrong. It's a possibility, but that was the best part of this video. Thank you!! Cannot wait to see how this all plays out! Loving it so far. It's taking me back to the old star wars the rpg paper and dice days, when my cousins and i went deep undercover for the rebel alliance, against the ISB.
nice. I also played the old West End games d6 rpg. and this show draws a ton on the material developed for that game, especially in fleshing out backwater worlds and imperial bureaucracy.
Good to see you back Ryan we miss you man👍🏽 the other video wasn't the same without you hope you enjoy your time off.
My money’s on Skeen being the traitor. He telescopes two-face to me. His blaster-in the face- alarm clock for Nemik in their introductory scene was pretty blunt foreshadowing.
You took the words straight out of my mouth regarding the espionage element.
This episode did a very good job of ratcheting up the paranoia of a great spy story. The spy genre would serve the Star Wars galaxy well. It was employed in Rogue One, but to a very small degree. But a full tilt, Cold War spy thriller like John LeCarre writes would open up so many fresh possibilities in this universe.
I agree on Skeen. BUT I'm not sure if it's just because he was so shady in The Bear and my mind can't separate him from that role anymore :)
I don't think they would make it that obvious though. Skeen seemed to be the least trusting of "Clam" so I'd be almost certain he will be the one to trust Cassian at the right moment when the traitor does their thing.
“Not the bees” and “that’s your mom” are mine and my husbands inside jokes that’s we quote to each other constantly because of you 😆 love the shirt design!
I thought the second group mentioned was "Seps" - as in "Separatists", surviving holdouts of the CIS.
Hope vacation was great! Glad to have you back Doug was a good boy and manager 😂
Was waiting for this video. Thanks for your work.

The Starkiller armor in the background in Luthens shop.
Awesome!!!
Glad you back Ryan
Somehow the emperor returned… and it’s your mom!😂 can’t get enough of those bits
The gallery part of this episode was great. Literally left in awe seeing the Sith Stalker armor there.
It’s like a crazy big budget scandi noir with subtle Star Wars elements, and the best thing I’ve seen for ages because of it.
As a really new fan of ScreenCrush, I’m surprised by how excited I am for Ryan’s return. Super happy he got a well-deserved vacation. Doug was a good boy looking after the shop all by himself
I love how much weve exploring coruscant in this show its by far one of the best star wars planets.
Welcome back, Ryan! I hope you had a pleasant holiday!🏝🏖
Glad you are back in action Ryan!
Nice to see ya Ryan!!!
The Rakatan Invaders reference is more than just a callback to Knights of the Old Republic games, it has a possible connection to The Book of Boba Fett when the Tusken Chief tells Fett how Tatooine used to be a water based planet until it became sand.
In the Dawn of the Jedi EU comics (published in 2012 then cancelled after the buyout), it is stated the Infinite Empire bombarded Tatooine to prevent rebellion and to try to end the virus plagueing their species. This in turn caused the native species to devolve into two branches - Jawas and Tuskens and left the planet the barren deserts we all know and love.
You should have gone into more detail about the rakatans, your explanation makes them seem like some obscure race, but they were actually some of the most impactful and important species to ever exist in the Star Wars galaxy and the rise of humans over them was unprecedented, making the gift incredibly valuable
I liked the two others who were covering while you were on holiday. But gotta say, made me happy to see Ryan back
"Somehow, Palpetine returned".
GASPS!!!!
You're right, that never gets old.
I think you missed the Starkiller armor in the gallery.
Yes! That guy in the Matrix was the first thing I thought when the character was introduced. Same hat!
Welcome back Ryan! Missed you buddy.
Welcome back ! hope you had a nice vacation
The antiquity shop... seeing all those lore artifacts was awesome
I'm loving the inter-office drama in the Empire! I'm loving the spy craft and politicking happening with Luthen and Mon Mothma!
I think you missed out on them mentioning Hosnian Prime at the space port.
And the dinner guest list name Sly Moore is the other person that stands beside the Emperor with Mas Ameda.
Yaaaaaaaaay!!! We’ve missed you Ryan!
Welcome back! Doug really kept an eye on that new guy for you.
Welcome back, hope you enjoyed your vacation. Your guests treated Doug well.
This episode really felt like a WWII spy movie.
exactly, the pacing, the characters, and the situations all point in that direction
Yeah, I felt that too.
You called out Kyburn but not The Waif? The Tal Shiar reference was nice! Rogue One has become my favorite SW movie and this show so far is doing it justice. Loving every bit of it!
Omg the Skarsgård's Star Wars deep lore museum was great. The Starkiller helmet and Mortis Trio relief sculptures 🤌✨
Thanks Ryan!
I LOL'd at the sunny reference. Chefs kiss.
You need a “Somehow Palpatine returned” shirt.
Love the implication that the store's wares belonged to people conquered by the Empire. Especially the heirlooms.
Great vid. Always watch these immediately after an episode! One thing that stuck out to me while watching is Aldhani is described as as having "Highlands" and "Lowlands", and the people of the Highlands (having been there for centuries) were forcibly removed to the more industrial Lowlands. This seens a stark parallel to the Highland Clearances from 1700s-1800s Scotland - pretty sure that planet is even shot in Scotland...
Yay Ryan is back!
I’m happy Ryan is back 😊
Welcome back, Ryan! Hope you had a good break.
Stellan Skarsgaard is actually so good in this role
Welcome back, Ryan!
Thank you for the Tal Shiar reference.
Seeing Coruscant was great again also hearing KOTOR Reference and part of Starkiller dark side armor in the antique shop also replicas of the ones stone tablets that were from Rebels season 4 World Between worlds arc were also in the background of the shop at 19:42 i missed it first time but defiantly replicas of the ones Mural from lothal jedi temple
I would actually love to see Jar Jar get a redemption arc !

Welcome back Ryan
Woooh ur back! Was worried Doug was getting too stressed 😂
Welcome back!
Welcome back from your well deserved vacation Ryan ✌️
Hey Ryan just a small detail I noticed you got wrong, Major Partagaz claims Debra only controls 2 not 3 sectors while her colleague Blevin controls 6. Love watching you guys after every new episode airs and excited for what is to come on Andor.
The first 3 episodes had me worried that it was going to be underwhelming and slow however this episode proved me wrong. Although it stays at a steady pace it feels so rough and human and expands and fills in gaps in the universe we all know and love. It was just so exciting to see courasant like never before
Driving through falling snow has reminded me of hyperspace since I was 4 years old in 1983 when I saw Return of the Jedi for the first time (actually my first Star Wars movie).
