Glad to hear it! I personally think it could have been better with a little trimming here and there, but I still enjoyed it. (I love time travel tales!)
A combo of general research into the firms and/or creators to the work, checking dates against the various copyright law milestones, checking jurisdictional complications, and checking the Library of Congress' for original filings and renewals. Once in a while, someone has already done the research... and once in a while, I get it wrong. (Like with "A Woman Commands"... I thought it was among the RKO films that had lapsed due to no renewal... but Warner Bros. showed me the error of my ways with a take-down notice!) I am much more comfortable and better at researching printed matter than films I admit... but in the case of "The Yesterday Machine", there was no renewal that I could find. I think the initial registration was also flawed... although the confusion surrounding its origins might mean I am wrong about that.
Thanks Steve. I enjoyed this one.

@@SteveMillerTalks i just love these B flicks. Thanks again for sharing
Steve where do you go to verify that the copyright expired. This one more than likely due to copyright neglect
