  • How do you go from crawling to running Dynamo extension for Revit software? Baby steps. Don't expect advanced math theories or abstract spaghetti buildings in this class. We will methodically walk you through 5 simple and practical examples that will save you pain and time in uncovering the basic principles of the Dynamo extension. The practical examples start with installing Dynamo and the 3 most useful packages that the Dynamo community offers. You will make a wall and floor, then make walls, floors and levels based on a property line; add flexible auditorium seating; and then export relevant information to Microsoft Excel. We will also display property lines and data in 3D, as well as find the distance from a wall to a property line. You can expect to walk out of this class with 5 practical Dynamo extension example files and the confidence needed to run with Dynamo extension. This session features Revit and Dynamo Studio. thank you for this tutorial, but I want to know if the language of Revit is not English, is that means dynamo won't work or should I type in the language in Revit. for example, the 'string' in the video was 'Floor Finish', English. Thanks

So what can Dynamo do that Lisp can't, or that Driveworks can't in Solidworks? I get the impression this isn't exactly a new concept.

Does anyone know where to get the first Node referenced? Is my install incomplete as it doesn't seem to have 'bycurveandlevel' by Revit and a search of the Dynamo package manager site and forums came up empty.

I figured it out...user error. If you launch Dynamo from the Windows start menu and NOT from the Revit Ribbon under Manage it will not list the core Revit Nodes.

hmm not fully sold on this dynamo, it still seems clunky..

I agree. The accumulated software in the Autodesk stable is so unwieldy it is not as seamless as they purport - note the operative words in the presentation, "we are still experimenting with that, "..."I am going to say yes to that"..." I'm pretty sure..."

But I think Dynamo is useful for very complicated model; this presentation is only a start-up concept of DIY..

Dynamo is buggy as hell glitches and inconsistencies all the time even practising regular stuff it crashes or says "run started" and waits like that doing nothing. I am using licensed revit 2019 with dynamo 2.0.0 trying to practice but its full of glitches . Even copy and paste with keyboard does not work they said that it will be fixed when the program was at 1.3.3 version now i am using version 2.0.0 still same issues .
I dont understand this logic . If we cant use it properly why advertise about it ? Are we dynamos test subjects ? :D I dont like to be a lab raT !

Simply hold control and drag from original ;) it will make copy, i find its more easy than ctrl+c, ctrl+v since you already can place where you need it ;)

The presenter is rude as hell. And he's not very professional either, what's the point of having someone the stage with you if you're not going to allow them to talk at all

I thought the same thing the other guy had nice insight, this was a great very basic intro to dynamo. I think the presenter had to keep on eye on time, not that he was rude. Just guessing off course

Why would you complicate what can be straightforward? The Dynamo Units are simply a waste of User's time, same as the inconsistency in the wording! This product is really not UX compliant. I don't see this going to far, even the presenter needs a 'genius' to get through the demo! :))

Eddie Seda are u really not aware that other 3D modeling software already incorporated this functionality with so much ease? Eg are: AutoCAD, 3Ds Max, Rhino... What they are presenting here is not new. It's been created in other programs a long time ago :)) I switched from Revit.

And by the way, if I do decide to work with scripting, I will do Maya. The results are so much more elegant and professional!

Horn Beam i agree, and am already proficient in 3ds Max and Rhino, i use these extensively in modelling and also to support V-ray rendering(ruclips.net/video/4LjrmnsFVBs/видео.html), but the truth of the matter is rhino by itself is not sufficient to document data and be parametric, it requires the use of Grasshopper and other extra plugins to achieve algorithmic modelling. 3ds Max is simply not an architectural software, its parameter are not quantifiable. Which is why Dynamo reveals a powerful side to Revit if you know how to use it. It has all the capabilities of Rhinocerous and 3ds Max, albeit a bit complicated, but it is algorithmic, which is what is important. Rhino without Grasshopper to feed back to data for quantifiable costs, and i am talking specifically in architecture and building industry, isn't necessarily that powerful if you do not tie it back to autocad, revit or any other architectural BIM software. This is just my personal experience, i may be wrong.

Again, i think Maya is just a Nurbs/polygonal modelling software and cannot schedule elements for construction nor do detailed drawings. it is mostly suited for first process design, not documentation. Here we are talking about the ability to document what you design, because ultimately architecture and design has to go beyond conceptual into built. and scheduling is the first step.

Horn Beam maya is for texturing, and rendering a final presentation, not for building dumbass.
