Praying for you all in Florida. I'm in Myrtle Beach SC and we were slammed with Florence 4 years ago Labor day weekend. We 2-3 feet of rain in 2 days, plus the storm surge. It was also slow moving and stayed. Every road was flooded or washed away. It took 3 weeks to get back home.
I live on yhe waccamaw river just north of north myrtle. We were flooded as usual. Been through so many floods in my life living here its nothing scary for me anymore. I just hope Florida's new residents listened to warnings about this storm. The native floridians know how to handle a storm. Looks bad for sure

I live in South Louisiana and we had our 100 year storm back in 2005 with Katrina. Everyone I know that decided to stay and ride it out and made it will tell you it will never happen again. When your staring down the barrel of a Cat 4 with the potential to grow and you want to stay I say and told them you deserve everything what you got coming. Now those same folks will tell you. THE minute they hear its a 2 with the potential to strengthen, they are THE FIRST to evacuate . Once you go through that and come out on the other side you won't stay for the next one, not anyone in their Saine Mind that is
Staying home to face a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane is a dumb as standing in the path of an EF4 or EF5 tornado. You have several days to several weeks to get out of the way of a hurricane. Hell, even back in 2005, NOA was only TWELVE MILES off from their predicted landfall for Katrina. If you stay for a hurricane, you deserve every bit of the wrath headed your way.

It is super crazy here in ellenton fl....The winds just picked up even more.Irma was way worst than this tho back in st Pete.The wind is blowing my screens out of their frames in my balcony.Hopefully my lady and our daughter are safe back in the berg....🙏🏽to both of them and our family and friends.

My family lives at Sun City. Right by the water. They decided not to leave. The storm early on was not suppose to grow to this kind of storm. Florida has the strongest building codes in the U.S. I think the buildings are holding up. But you cannot build enough for flooding.

I knew a family that died after a minor hurricane in Weston Fl years ago because they went outside after the storm passed and the kids ran into standing water that had a live wire in it and the mother ran in to try to save them. DO NOT VENTURE INTO STANDING WATER IF THERE IS ANY CHANCE OF LIVE WIRES IN THE AREA!
Wondering if the remaining few that stayed in the building if they will be evacuated later and if the building after hurricane will they be demolished or check for damage or will it be torn down

The insurance is going to be insane. Florida is already struggling with an insurance issue, with every provider under the sun dropping Florida or raising their prices in Florida. It’s part of the reason the rent is so high in Florida recently.
And what exactly do thoughts and prayers do for a city that's submersed in sea water? Does the water miraculously recede and everyone's property reappears good as new? Cause if that's the case, why didn't people pray BEFORE the hurricane hit? Asking for a friend.....

We had the rivers flooding because of all water and some of the damage broke and it took along time for the water to clear.
