      I’m 50 years old and been practicing windmills for about a week now. Just the other day something finally clicked and all of the disparate movements finally came together and made sense - I can’t wait to go practice some more today and eventually land this move. Today I’m going to start learning flares. What got me suddenly interested in breakdancing was the fact that it’s no secret on the mats that people who have a background in breakdancing do EXCEPTIONALLY well when they transition into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ...and now I 100% see why! Everything from movement to positional awareness to strength is instantly translated into Jiu-Jitsu skill, for what it’s worth, just sayin’

      The step-by-step approach was nice. I wasn't overwhelmed. He layed out a simple form that was easy to learn and follow, then added more to it until it became the full move. I feel like a lot of dance moves would be easier to learn this way.

    Thank you. You're the best, I will give it a try. I've been failing to get it using the most common method of learning for a long time, it hurts cause I go all out to try and at least get one.
    I think one major problem for me is I really have to know what the rotation should feel like to get the proper momentum going, second it lets my hands learn proper placement and timing by actually getting a few rounds in, thirdly I can practice as many times as I like without my muscles getting tired or risk injury. I'll let you know if I ever get it!

      SuperbLotus Good try bro!! I see your problem is that you should swing your hip to the front & try not to get flare so high at the front but make it high at the back. If you watch closely, your hip did not swing to the front,your kicking leg is swinging to the front & it is correct but your hip should go to the front as well. Hope it helps.

Great stuff man, I love it and I'll add it to my regiment to see what i get cus if you can get this 30 year old 18 lb 5 5'10 dude getting multiples I'm going to share you to all my friends. I've tried to learn a Flare for 2 months, my teacher was already getting pissed because I just couldn't get it done.
    This is a complete different approach, I really want to try it to see if it works better for me! Unfortunately, I don't have such a big room to practice it, I can only practice at the beach (therefore I also can't practice a windmill, which I'm also too stupid for) but for the first steps I need some kind of good floor. Anyone has any idea what I could do? Haha

    • @PieChienTeddie
      @PieChienTeddie 9 лет назад +8

      I think you can basically do it on any floor as long it is hard. I won't recommend you to do it on the beach though because learning flare on top of the sand was not a really good idea.

      Learn some tricks.
      Combine tricks, and footwork.
      Be patient.

      did you do anything like that before? and how frequently did you train?
      i'm doing calishtenics for over a year now, but i have no breakdance experience, or dancing experience at all. but i really want to learn how to flare.

    I think I might get it. I can do virgin flares, but the ones with the split legs, nope. Your tutorial, I looked it up again after not trying for about a year out of frustration and going the more hybrid dance rout, but since this is a necessary basic, thank you thank you thank you thank you.

      I subbed U already and also wanted to send U an update that my son has struggled a bit with his legs going around to the other side, he can get it around but his right arm doesn't push back, instead he completely lets go and lands late with his hand and then his face falls to the carpet. As he continues to try to utilize your video, I will vlog and update of him and his improvements and either tag it to U or if U got twitter, I can tweet it to U!
